Flashback: flip phones are dead, long live the flip phone Posted: 20 Jun 2021 07:11 AM PDT Flip phones like the Motorola RAZR ruled the world once upon a time. They were stylish, compact and the ability to hang up a call with a flick of your wrist was one of the most satisfying things ever. However, the demand for larger screens would eventually kill the flip phone (and sliders and other form factors), leaving only the ubiquitous slab. Ironically, it is exactly the demand for larger screens that has brought flip phones back from the dead with devices like the Motorola RAZR 2019 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. Yes, we're talking about foldable phones. But they are only the most... |
Weekly poll: is the Honor 50 series the start of something great? Posted: 20 Jun 2021 03:59 AM PDT Honor is back, but is there still room for the brand that was once seen as Huawei Jr.? While it is now an independent company, it's hard to deny that the dual circle design on the back of the new Honor 50 series is clearly inspired by the Huawei P50 design. That's not necessarily a bad thing, Huawei has created some beautiful phones over the years. And once you look past the cover, you'll see that this book tells a very different story. There is no Kirin chipset here, no EMUI either – and certainly no HMS Core. Instead, you get new Snapdragons (and a Dimensity) along with Magic UI with... |
Honor MagicBook 14 with Intel Core i7-1165G7 review Posted: 20 Jun 2021 12:23 AM PDT Introduction Honor is getting a lot of mileage out of the MagicBook 14 chassis – we reviewed it once with a Ryzen 3500U APU, then we looked at the upgraded 4500U model. With the AMD chips covered, time to have a look at the Intel-powered version of this laptop that was announced last month. The Honor MagicBook 14 is back, this time with an 11th generation Intel Core processor There are two options – an Intel i7-1165G7 or an i5-1135G7. Both are 11th generation mobile chips (Tiger Lake) built on a 10nm SuperFin litography. Both have four hyper-threaded cores (i.e. eight threads... |
Posted: 19 Jun 2021 08:37 PM PDT The OnePlus Nord CE 5G struggled to make a case for itself in last week's poll – it received some positive votes and, crucially, it edged the original Nord by a decent margin. But the majority voted against it. The whole point of the "Core Edition" device was to trim the fat off the spec sheet and bring a price cut that will make this mid-ranger one of the best value-for-money phones out there. Did OnePlus succeed? Not quite, by the looks of it. The shadow of two Poco phones - the X3 Pro and F3 - loomed large over the Nord CE. Other alternatives like Samsung's Galaxy A52 5G (and... |
