iFixit teardown shows the Samsung Galaxy S21 is easier to repair than the S20, still not perfect Posted: 05 Feb 2021 07:19 AM PST iFixit took apart a Samsung Galaxy S21 and gave it a repairability rating of 4 out of 10. While the S20 never got an official rating from iFixit, this year's flagship is clearly easier to repair. Check out the video below for a look at the critical areas. Long story short, the plastic back is easier to remove than a glass panel (you don't have to worry about cracking it). The flat display is easier to remove as well, it also helps that display cable is now detachable. The less than perfect score is because the two most common repairs – changing the battery or the display – are still... |

The headset might finally see the light of day next year, but it will not be something for the average consumer. The Information spoke with a person familiar with the project. Apple's headset is expected to cost around $3,000, however it will feature the most advanced hardware seen yet. The company laid the groundwork for this with the addition of LiDAR sensors on iPads and iPhones as well as developing its own silicon. The headset will have two 8K... |

Xiaomi's new concept phone has a waterfall display that curves in all four corners Posted: 05 Feb 2021 12:45 AM PST Xiaomi likes to show out concept phones every once in a while with the last one being the Mi Mix Alpha from September 2019. Today, we get a look at a different type of curved display that melts in all four corners from top to bottom and left to right. Xiaomi is calling it a 88-degree hyper quad-curved screen and it's the most extreme form of a curved screen we've seen to date. The concept device features no ports or physical buttons. The new display actually comes with four rounded cutouts in the corners which are presumably there to deter unwanted palm touches. Another interesting... |

The resolution of the screen is HD+ with a tall ratio of 20:9. Unsurprisingly, the refresh rate is only 60 Hz. Since the fingerprint scanner cannot be placed underneath, it made its way on the side, acting as a power key. The camera setup on the back might look like it has three shooters, but there is only one 13 MP main cam + 2... |
Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3 rumored to arrive in July Posted: 04 Feb 2021 07:45 PM PST The Note lineup normally launched around September/October so we generally believed this was when we'd expect the new foldables to arrive. If a rumor is to be believed, Samsung may be planning to launch its new foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3, in July this year - months earlier than the Z Fold2, which arrived last September. We may have to wait 5 months to see Flip 3 and Fold 3.— Ice universe (@UniverseIce) February 4, 2021 If Samsung is now making a shift to its release strategy and its H1 flagship (the S21 seires) already released in January, then this new timeline... |
Nvidia GeForce Now game streaming service lands on M1 Macs Posted: 04 Feb 2021 05:27 PM PST The M1 Macs Apple recently announced have a ton of power thanks to the company's own processor, but what about gaming? Well, Nvidia's got your back. Its GeForce Now game streaming service is now available to use on M1 Macs, through the dedicated app. This has been 'translated' using Apple's Rosetta 2 emulator, so GeForce Now isn't at this point fully optimized for M1. However, many other apps that use Rosetta 2 have almost no discernible performance hit, so we're very curious as to how this will do. You can also use GeForce Now through Chrome or Safari, but a dedicated app is... |
Google's Pixels will read your heart rate and respiratory rate with their cameras Posted: 04 Feb 2021 02:49 PM PST Google is soon adding some interesting new features to its Fit app for its Pixel smartphones. You'll be able to measure your heart rate by placing a finger on the rear camera, which reminds us of a fad from many years ago in the Android world. This works by tracking color change as blood moves through your fingertip. On the other hand, measuring your respiratory rate works with the selfie camera, where you position yourself within a frame and then just breathe. The software will monitor the rise and fall of your chest and infer the rate from there. A Google Health product manager... |
