Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra in for review Posted: 28 Aug 2020 08:17 AM PDT This is how tech companies flex in front of their peers – the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra is outstanding in several categories, it feels designed to impress. Unfortunately, this commemorative edition phone (which celebrates Xiaomi turning 10 years old) will not be available outside of China, meaning that for most of the world it's something to gawk at but never touch. We did receive a review unit, so (if you don't mind) we'll now tell you what you're missing out on. We'll start with the charging as this is the first 100+ Watt phone that we've handled – indeed, it is the first on the market (beating... |
Samsung announces record-breaking Galaxy Note20 pre-orders in the UK Posted: 28 Aug 2020 07:04 AM PDT The Samsung Galaxy Note20 duo is now on open sale and it's time for some numbers. The Korean tech giant's UK arm has summed up the pre-order campaign and the numbers look great. Compared to the Galaxy Note10, the Note20 lineup sold 49% more units during the pre-order phase with the hero Mystic Bronze color accounting for about 46% of those. However, Samsung doesn't say how these sales are distributed between the Note20 and the Note20 Ultra 5G. Numbers from China indicated that the more premium offering is outselling the vanilla model 10:1, although those were based on a very small... |

Swiping from the upper-right corner of the screen will open up the so-called Control center and swipe down from the left corner to open up the Notification shade. Screenshot of the changelog The list also mentions something about brightness and color improvements for wallpapers in Dark... |
Samsung Galaxy S20 FE and S20 FE 5G mentioned on Samsung.com Posted: 28 Aug 2020 04:42 AM PDT The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE will receive four months of YouTube Premium – but that's not the important part, the interesting bit is that this info comes from the official Samsung.com site. Better yet, it mentions both the Galaxy S20 FE and Galaxy S20 FE 5G. This means that there will be an LTE version in some markets – it's not clear if it will overlap with the markets that get the 5G model, but if it does, the 4G version will cost less. Also note that Samsung officially calls this phone the "FE" rather than "Fan Edition" (even though that's what the letters stand for). Anyway,... |

Xiaomi demoes its third-generation solution for under-display front camera Posted: 27 Aug 2020 11:59 PM PDT Selfie cameras have always been the biggest hurdle in the pursuit of the all-screen-front of smartphones. Bezels got thinner and thinner until they transformed into notches that eventually evolved into punch holes. The logical next step is an under-display front-facing snapper and ZTE is expected to introduce a working smartphone with the technology next Tuesday, September 1. This is a huge motivator for other companies, and Xiaomi has revealed it is also joining the race. A company VP shared on his Weibo profile that their third-generation solution is finally ready for mass production, as... |

Upon pulling the display up, the screen gets longer and taller into an "open"... |

Redmi 9A tipped to come to India soon rebadged to Redmi 9i Posted: 27 Aug 2020 05:43 PM PDT Redmi brought over the Redmi 9C to India as the Redmi 9 earlier today. Before that, we saw the Redmi 9 Prime debut - that one was based on the global Redmi 9. This leaves the Redmi 9A as the only Redmi 9 variant yet to grace India and according to a new tip from Ishan Agarwal, we'll see it as the Redmi 9i. Redmi 9A Yes, that's Xiaomi's increasingly convoluted naming scheme in play but it makes sense given the previous rebadged Redmi 9 models. There's still no exact word on the launch date and pricing of the device but according to the Redmi 9i might come with a slightly higher price... |
Future AirPods might drop the force detection sensors for touch sensors Posted: 27 Aug 2020 04:31 PM PDT According to a series of filed patents, Apple's future AirPods could come with simple touch sensors instead of force detection for control. The documents reason that this would provide an improved control with a wider variety of gestures. For example, the touch sensors will be able to recognize gestures like swipes for volume control. No more squeezing or strong taps to control your music or answering calls. The simple touch sensors work in a totally different way. The touch sensor will cover the better part of the exterior of the AirPod and it looks for "change in capacitance." ... |
