Huawei Mate 40 and 40 Pro cases show a round camera bump, vanilla model has a 3.5 mm jack

Posted: 27 Aug 2020 07:01 AM PDT

Basic transparent cases that allegedly belong to the Huawei Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro have surfaced, courtesy of leakster Digital Chat Station. They have a circular opening for the camera bump on the back, rather than square. There's no extra hole for the LED flash, which suggests that it has been incorporated into the circle. Which makes sense as the circular hump is now larger than on the Mate 30 series. Now let's have a closer look at the differences between the Pro and the vanilla model. Huawei Mate 40 Pro case: note the volume rocker and the extra grille The Huawei Mate 40...

Apple iPad Air manual leaks to reveal side-mounted Touch ID

Posted: 27 Aug 2020 06:09 AM PDT

A leaked user manual for the upcoming iPad Air reveals a couple of features and bits about the design. The manual itself is in Spanish and comes from the Eurasian Economic Commission as part of the registration process. Shots of the user manual Judging by some of the images from the user manual, we can say that the new iPad Air will feel and look a lot like the 11-inch iPad Pro from 2018 with super-thin bezels but instead of Face ID, the device will adopt Touch ID. The fingerprint reader is said to be integrated into the power button on the right side, making this the first...

Sony Xperia 5 II official announcement set for September 17

Posted: 27 Aug 2020 05:20 AM PDT

Sony scheduled a "new product announcement" for September 17 and the #SonyXperia hashtag leaves little doubt that there's a new phone on the way. The company wouldn't be making so much noise unless it was about to launch the Sony Xperia 5 II, right? We saw the first renders of the phone yesterday, showing a triple cam with ZEISS T* lenses as well as a classic top and bottom bezel design on the front. There isn't much info on the hardware, however. It should be very close to the Xperia 1 II, save for some changes (e.g. the 3D ToF sensor seems to have gone missing). The screen size is...

Posted: 27 Aug 2020 04:31 AM PDT

A cache of images and info on the Xiaomi Mi 10T has leaked from a couple of sources. They all paint a picture of a supercharged flagship that will be available globally (unlike the Mi 10 Ultra). There are at least two models, Mi 10T and Mi 10T Pro, and there could be more. Hands on photos with the Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro show a massive lens for the 108 MP sensor. The layout is similar to the vivo X50 Pro, so this might feature an advanced stabilization system of some sort. Alleged Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro hands-on photos A config file shows that the Mi 10T Pro (code name Apollo Pro)...

Posted: 27 Aug 2020 03:42 AM PDT

ZTE's next flagship, the Axon 20 5G, is coming on September 1. Before then, the company has already teased the phone's under display selfie camera, some renders, and on Thursday, the company's Head of Consumer Experiences and Strategy, Qianhao Lv, has shared a sample image shot with the new Axon phone. The image captured shows the sun setting over a lake with some clouds and reflections of buildings. Of course, the image was compressed once it was posted online, but we can still tell some of the aspects of this 64MP camera that show promising performance. Camera sample from ZTE...

Posted: 27 Aug 2020 02:02 AM PDT

In a tech world obsessed with short upgrade cycles and the race for the ultimate spec'd phone we tend to put aside some moral topics like e-waste, material sourcing and working conditions for the people who assemble the devices. Fairphone has positioned itself as the ethical smartphone choice and today it's announcing its latest entry - the Fairphone 3+. In most aspects its similar to its predecessor though the big upgrade this time is in the camera department with a 48MP main shooter and 16MP selfie cam. Fairphone 3+ Existing Fairphone 3 users can also upgrade their phones to...

Indian Redmi 9 unveiled with two cameras, Helio G35

Posted: 27 Aug 2020 01:28 AM PDT

Xiaomi's increasingly confusing Redmi lineup got a new addition today as the company announced the Redmi 9 in India. It's not what global markets get as Redmi 9, since that one is known as Redmi 9 Prime in India. Instead, the newly unveiled Indian Redmi 9 is very similar to the Redmi 9C from earlier this summer, save for the downgraded main camera. The Redmi 9 for India has the same looks, including the squircle (square circle, as the Xiaomi rep, joyfully revealed) island with four holes. One is for the 13 MP main shooter, next to it is the 2 MP depth sensor, on the bottom row is the...

Epic Games confirms Fortnite’s new season won’t be playable on Apple devices

Posted: 26 Aug 2020 11:18 PM PDT

Apple and Epic Games are still in the middle of an ongoing legal battle as the company sues Apple for unfair market practices in the App Store. Following the removal of the game from both Apple and Android's respective app stores, Epic games slapped both tech giants with lawsuits. Then on Tuesday, Epic Games won a small victory as the court would not allow Apple to sever ties with its APIs and Unreal Engine – a wide used gaming platform owned by Epic Games. The caveat was that Apple does not have to put Fortnite back on the App Store, but this also means that Fortnite players on...

BLU G90 Pro launches with Helio G90T chipset, $200 price tag

Posted: 26 Aug 2020 06:58 PM PDT

BLU has just launched its newest unlocked smartphone in the US market, the G90 Pro. We have to say, we didn't expect the name itself to make perfect sense, but it does: the phone is powered by MediaTek's Helio G90T chipset. In a mobile world dominated by impossibly complicated naming schemes, this is a breath of fresh air indeed. Then again, there's also a BLU G90, announced back in June, only that one has the Helio A25 SoC at the helm. Anyway, name shenanigans aside, the G90 Pro has a 6.5-inch 1080x2340 LCD touchscreen with 19:9 aspect ratio, 4GB of RAM, 128GB of expandable...

We're talking about the A11, which launched back in May, but is soon due to be replaced by the upcoming Galaxy A12. This phone will have the model number SM-A125F, according to a new report. That's not surprising at all, taking into account Samsung's naming scheme and the fact that the A11 is SM-A115F. Samsung Galaxy A11 The A12 is said to come in two storage options: 32GB and 64GB. The latter, upper tier was missing from its predecessor. The A12 is expected to keep the A11's PLS TFT...

Posted: 26 Aug 2020 02:13 PM PDT

Bloomberg reports that Apple is preparing to add Augmented Reality (AR) content that ties into shows from its Apple TV+ streaming service. This is intended to both help keep subscribers around and to lay the groundwork for the AR headset that the company is allegedly preparing for a 2022 launch. The new feature will allow fans to view characters, objects and locations from their favorite shows, e.g. a moon-walking scene from For All Mankind using an iPad or iPhone with AR capabilities. This is apparently intended to be bonus content rather than something you watch in sync with the show....
