Sony reports record Q2 profits, thanks to its image sensor division Posted: 30 Oct 2019 06:34 AM PDT Sony posted the highest operating profit for a second quarter on the back of strong demand for image sensors for mobile phones. Profits were up 16%, for a total of 279 billion yen ($2.6 billion). That's 19% higher than analysts had expected. Profits from the sensor division shot up 59% to 76.4 billion yen ($711 million), an all-time record. While still complying to the usual IP68 water and dust resistance and MIL-STD 810G standards, it's thin at 9.69mm and has an exposed aluminum frame as well as a clean TPU backplate.
