Samsung delays Galaxy Fold indefinitely

Posted: 07 May 2019 07:00 AM PDT

The Samsung Galaxy Fold was ready for a star-studded launch, but issues discovered in early review units caused Samsung to recall them and postpone the launch. The company was supposed to announce a new release date after evaluating the issues, but now the launch of its first foldable phone has been delayed indefinitely. Samsung sent out emails to those who pre-ordered the Galaxy Fold, saying that it's "making progress" and will release updated shipping info "in the coming weeks". The pre-orders will be automatically canceled by the end of the month, unless buyers explicitly request...

Honor 20 Pro camera specs leak in detail: there's a dedicated macro camera

Posted: 07 May 2019 06:10 AM PDT

Leaks about the Honor 20 Pro showed the first periscope zoom lens in the family (following in the footsteps of the sibling Huawei phones). The latest leak, however, pours cold water on our expectations (as far as zoom is concerned, anyway). The camera does have a unique feature, though. Gone is the telltale square lens seen in the renders. Instead, there's a traditional 8MP camera with 3x optical zoom and OIS. The rumored IMX600 sensor for the main camera is out too, it seems, replaced by the familiar 48-megapixel IMX586 (also optically-stabilized), which was used on the Honor View 20....

Oppo will update the Reno 10x zoom to support 60x digital zoom

Posted: 07 May 2019 05:20 AM PDT

Check out the video below for a quick demo of what's to come. This update will be rolled out in Taiwan first. This requires a bit of explanation. The phone comes with a periscope zoom lens that goes up to 130mm focal length - 5x zoom in relation to the main camera. Then there's the hybrid zoom mode that can go up to 10x (hence the phone's name). This is followed by a digital zoom, currently capped at 20x. With the new...

Exclusive: Honor 20 Pro's promo images show no punch-hole camera

Posted: 07 May 2019 04:30 AM PDT

We just received an exclusive batch of promo images of the Honor 20 Pro and they all seem to confirm what we've seen so far except for one detail - the punch-hole camera. Honor 20 Pro promo renders The previous leak had us believe that the punch-hole camera on the front is indeed happening but the images from today bring us back from where we started. The live images from the other week show off a camera hole positioned in the upper-left corner of the screen while the promo renders show no such thing. Honor 20 Pro promo renders Of course, we can't be sure of the...

Posted: 07 May 2019 03:40 AM PDT

Xiaomi has locked out the Top 3 spots in AnTuTu's ranking of fastest Android phones for April. The Xiaomi Mi 9 Explorer is in the lead, followed by the vanilla Mi 9 and the Black Shark 2 gaming phone. All Snapdragon 855-powered phones, in case it wasn't clear. This displaced the Meizu 16s, which held the top spot last month. Note that the chart below doesn't include the ZTE Axon 10 Pro 5G, which posted a score in the 380,000 range (yet another S855 phone, but the score was boosted by the use of the F2FS file system). The Axon, as well as phones like the Oppo Reno 10x zoom, Lenovo...

Posted: 07 May 2019 02:00 AM PDT

This photo shared by Chase shows off the phone's notchless display which is surrounded by slim bezels on its left, right, and top. The chin, however, is tad thicker. The notchless screen also re-confirms the presence of a pop-up selfie camera on the Realme X, making it the company's first smartphone to come with this feature. This image doesn't show us the rear side of the Realme X, but thanks to TENAA, we know that...

Posted: 06 May 2019 08:30 PM PDT

A new Lenovo smartphone has recently passed through China's 3C authority for a possible variant of the Lenovo Z6 Pro. The Z6 Pro was already announced a couple of week sago with a Snapdragon 855, quad-cameras, and up to 12GB of RAM and this newly certified device could possibly be the Lenovo Z6. The 3C filing offers the model number L78032 which is certainly a variant of the Z6 Pro since that one has a model number of L78051. This new model could be either of two devices (one is more realistic than the other): a Lenovo Z6 non-Pro model, or a 5G variant of the Lenovo Z6 Pro. The latter...

Deal: Unlocked Samsung Galaxy S9+ for $530, S9 at $485

Posted: 06 May 2019 04:30 PM PDT

If you can't get yourself to spend around a thousand bucks on Samsung's new Galaxy S10+, how about buying an S9+ instead? Sure, it doesn't have three cameras on the back, but it's still plenty capable in its own right, and you get the same One UI on it as the newer models. We're bringing this up because at the moment you can snag a brand new Galaxy S9+ from Amazon, in unlocked form, for just $530.93. That's an amazing price and the phone is sold by Amazon itself and comes with a US warranty, so everything looks to be on the up and up. If you'd rather have the smaller Galaxy S9 instead,...

Redmi K20 Pro might be the name of the upcoming flagship from Xiaomi's sub-brand

Posted: 06 May 2019 02:30 PM PDT

Xiaomi's offshoot Redmi is working on its first true flagship device, which will be powered by the Snapdragon 855 chipset. That much the company has confirmed through Redmi GM Lu Weibing's Weibo posts. We also know, from the same source, that this phone will not be called Redmi X, but something "better" instead. So how about Redmi K20 Pro? Does that sound like a better name than Redmi X to you? Regardless of what you answer, if today's new purported leak from China is accurate and not just a hoax, that's exactly what you can expect the Redmi flagship to be marketed as. Doesn't really...

OnePlus 7 Pro now leaks in Almond color version in official-looking press renders

Posted: 06 May 2019 12:28 PM PDT

The non-Pro OnePlus 7 was showcased in official-looking press renders today, but when it comes to the OnePlus 7 Pro those are already old news, sort of. Last week it leaked in two hues, which are allegedly going to be called Mirror Grey and Nebula Blue. Today a third color option has been outed. This one is apparently called Almond, and it looks like what manufacturers would call "gold" a few years ago. But that is out of fashion now, so Almond is more in tune with the subdued tone here. Or something. New color aside, this is the same OnePlus 7 Pro that we've been seeing in leaks...

Alleged OnePlus 7 renders show off a notched display

Posted: 06 May 2019 10:00 AM PDT

With the OnePlus 7 Pro stealing the spotlight lately, we still haven't had the chance to take a closer look at the vanilla OnePlus 7. Well, that changes today. OnePlus 7 renders Official-looking renders just surfaced online depicting the OnePlus 7 with a waterdrop notch - looking identical to the OnePlus 6T. In fact, the whole front design looks identical to the 6T's except for one small detail - the earpiece. You can see from the renders that the earpiece grille looks a bit wider than before, which in turn could mean that the OnePlus 7 will come with stereo loudspeakers - a...

Apple is cooking up big software changes at this year's WWDC

Posted: 06 May 2019 09:00 AM PDT

This year Apple is gearing up for some big announcements during its WWDC. The source of the info is usually on point with this stuff, so we have a good reason to believe him. Expect iPad apps running on macOS and dark mode in iOS. Starting with iOS, some of the most exciting improvements is the native dark mode. Since the launch of the iPhone X - the first iPhone with an OLED panel - the need for a UI-wide dark mode has never been bigger. The company also wants to improve some of its services that are usually handled better by third-party apps like navigation, to-do lists, health,...
