Oppo A9 version with 4GB of RAM soon to launch in China Posted: 06 May 2019 08:00 AM PDT Oppo recently announced the A9 - a wallet-friendly device in China with a big screen for as little as CNY 1,799 ($267). But even if that's too steep for you, the OEM is now launching a 4GB version for a little less. The standard version features 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage while the new toned-down version has 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage and costs CNY 1,399 ($206) in case you don't need that extra memory and in most cases, you don't. The handset is still up for pre-order and will hit the market on May 10 in China. Source (in Chinese)
Samsung Galaxy Note10 rumored to have faster than 25W charging Posted: 06 May 2019 07:00 AM PDT The release of the new Samsung Galaxy Note10 is still far away, but the latest rumor is enough to keep us on our toes. Two different sources - both appear to be pretty reliable - claim that the upcoming Note10 will have faster than 25W charging. So far, only the Galaxy S10 5G and the Galaxy A70 boast Samsung's new 25W fast charging tech and it appears that the company will finally up its game with the release of its second flagship series this year. "Note10 charging is not 25w" ≠ "less than 25w", perhaps starting from Note10, battery capacity and charging speed will no longer be...
2019 iPhones to use new antenna tech, expect better reception Posted: 06 May 2019 06:00 AM PDT Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo filed another report coming straight from Apple's supply chain. According to the info, Apple will be switching over to a new modified-PI antenna tech, which is largely different than the one used until now. The current iPhones use liquid crystal polymer (LCP) antennas that are somewhat limiting. Production issues around LCP antennas cause problems for high-frequency cellular transmission whereas the modified-PI units improve performance and also bring the production cost down. But as far as 4G LTE connectivity is concerned, users won't feel much of a...
Ultra-affordable ZTE Blade A7 arrives for $90 Posted: 06 May 2019 05:00 AM PDT The market of ultra-affordable smartphones has another competitor in sight after the ZTE Blade A7 arrived for pre-order. The phone has basic specs like a Helio P60 chipset and a single 16 MP camera on the back and will start at CNY599 which is slightly under $90/80. The Blade A7 has two memory combos - 2GB RAM + 32 GB storage, and 3 GB RAM + 64 GB storage. The screen is 6.1" LCD with a notch and a bezel on top, but there is no fingerprint anywhere on the phone. The selfie camera brings some basic Face Unlock and AI features. The sensor itself is 5 MP. The main shooter also is...
OnePlus 7 Pro to have HDR10+ screen and UFS 3.0 storage Posted: 06 May 2019 04:00 AM PDT Most of the OnePlus 7 Pro's specs are no secret, especially thanks to all the teasers from the company's CEO and it looks like the screen is going to be the centerpiece feature. In the latest reveal, Pete Lau said that on top of the QHD+ resolution and the 90Hz refresh rate, the screen would also support the HDR10+ standard. HDR10+ is the future of not just television displays, but also smartphone displays as well. We hope that our newest device will set a new benchmark for the smartphone industry and open up a new world of visual fluidity for users. We're glad we are leading the ranks in...
Xiaomi Mi A3 and A3 Lite to come with Snapdragon 700-series SoCs Posted: 06 May 2019 03:00 AM PDT We've heard about Xiaomi going with the Snapdragon 700-series for its budget Android One-powered smartphones before, and now we have another confirmation coming from a fairly reputable source. According to a tweet, the phones are codenamed Bamboo Sprout and Cosmos Sprout, which makes sense as the previous generations Xiaomi Mi A devices carried the same Sprout naming suffix. Bamboo_sprout/cosmos_sprout/pyxisAll 3 should be SDM7XX series. Which one (710/712) I can't say for sure yet. Mishaal Rahman (@MishaalRahman) May 5, 2019 Unfortunately, the info doesn't come with precise...
New Oppo Reno appears on TENAA with 32 MP selfie shooter Posted: 06 May 2019 02:15 AM PDT Oppo Reno was globally announced two weeks ago in Zurich, Switzerland. We were there and had some hands-on experience with the phone that comes with a full-screen display and a shark-fin elevating selfie camera. Now, a new variant of the device pops up on the Chinese regulatory TENAA with a bigger selfie camera and slightly bigger footprint. Oppo PCDM10/PCDT10 from all sides The phone with codenams PCDM10 and PCDT10 has an octa-core CPU, maxed out at 2.2 GHz. This could be the same chip as in the Oppo Reno - Snapdragon 710 - but we would love to see the even newer...
Redmi flagship is codenamed Raphael, to have 256 GB storage Posted: 06 May 2019 01:37 AM PDT Rumors and official information about the upcoming Redmi flagship are already tangled in one incomprehensible mess where you can't distinguish right from wrong. However, some screenshots that are reportedly from the phone revealed a bit more info about the device, including its codename Raphael. Screenshots from the Redmi flagship The Redmi flagship that will not be named Redmi X will have 256 GB storage after the brand manager said the name would be better than that. We also saw some specs, suggesting 128 gigs of storage, so it is highly likely there are two memory variants...
Redmi Note 7 flies to space, takes photos, and returns without a scratch Posted: 05 May 2019 11:12 PM PDT We've seen plenty of unusual durability tests of the Redmi Note 7, including cutting fruits like a ninja on the screen and being stomped by people. To prove the ultimate quality of build, Redmi actually sent a unit in space, the phone took pictures at 31,000m altitude, before falling to the ground without any major damage. Plenty of enthusiasts and amateur weathermen have sent GoPros and other tech in space with a weather balloon, but this is the first time a Xiaomi mobile device went to the stratosphere of our planet. The Redmi Note 7 even took photos, that later were posted on...
Realme X officially arriving on May 15, Realme X Lite to tag along Posted: 05 May 2019 10:05 PM PDT Realme is going back to its roots and is relaunching the brand in China, announcing the Realme X. The Oppo subsidiary posted on Weibo the official launch date - May 15, and there will be also a lighter version of the device, called Realme X Youth Edition or Realme X Lite as usually translated. The announcement also stated the phone is available for reservations at plenty of online retailers in China, such as JD.com, Suning, and TMall. The official launch is taking place in Beijing and was announced with some futuristic cyberpunk art, where all the billboards are saying "realme X". We...
Top 10 trending phones of week 18 Posted: 05 May 2019 05:00 PM PDT The past seven days were lacking any major smartphone announcements, but rumors still shook up the trending chart. The OnePlus 7 Pro is arriving on May 14 and it gained so much traction, it reached the second spot already. The Samsung Galaxy A50 retained its lead for yet another week, but once the flagship goes official it will surely have to concede it. The third place is for the Galaxy A70, as the top half is completed by the Huawei P30 Pro and Redmi Note 7. The Huawei P30 Lite kept its sixth place from the previous week, just edging out the Pixel 3a XL that is scheduled to launch...
Week 18 in review: OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro dominate, Pixel 3a and 3a XL coming Posted: 05 May 2019 12:00 PM PDT Like the week prior, this one was dominated by the incoming OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro. The pair is due on May 14 and OnePlus is constantly posting teasers to hype up its arrival. Among these teasers were a few camera samples released from an early review unit and then we got an official teaser from OnePlus' Twitter account showing a bird captured from an ultra-wide, regular and telephoto lenese. We saw a printed ad for the OnePlus 7 Pro in the New York Times, too, teasing no bezel and no notch and hinting at the pop-up selfie camera. The Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL will arrive on May 8...
