Google has been planning to bring AR walking directions to Maps for a while now. The company announced the feature a year ago but said it was not satisfied with its performance. It's been months since Google updated the Android version distribution numbers, the last one was in October. Maybe it was waiting until it had good news to share and now it does - Android 9 Pie is on more than 10% of phones.
