Flashback: the Samsung Galaxy Beam put a cinema in your pocket with its built-in projector Posted: 06 Jun 2021 05:09 AM PDT While fitting a tablet with a 7" or 8" screen in your pocket used to be unthinkable, foldable phones make it possible these days. But can foldable phones fit a 50" screen in your pocket? That would have to be some crazy origami design. Yet a clever little phone from 2010 managed to do just that – the Samsung I8520 Galaxy Beam had a built-in DLP projector that could indeed create a 50" image on the wall. The room would have to be very, very dark and the image quality wasn't the best, but it was possible. The Samsung I8520 Galaxy Beam This is because the pico-projector could only... |
Weekly poll: is HarmonyOS as promising as Android or is it another Windows Phone? Posted: 06 Jun 2021 01:39 AM PDT Huawei wants to be in control of its own destiny and this week it took a large step in that direction – it announced HarmonyOS 2.0, which will replace Android on its smartphones, tablets and watches. And not just on new models either, the company announced plans to convert around 100 current devices (phones and tablets) from Android to Harmony. Strangely, right now we only know of plans to convert devices in China where the lack of access to the Google Play Services was essentially meaningless. The first batch of devices to come with HarmonyOS out of the box What will... |
Weekly poll results: the Oppo Reno6 Pro+ is the fan favorite, the other two don't make the cut Posted: 05 Jun 2021 10:07 PM PDT The results from last week's poll make it clear that the Oppo Reno6 Pro+ is the only one of the three Reno6 series models that people are interested in. It garnered 50% of the vote, which made it the undisputed favorite. Even more telling is that it is the only one of its family to be above the bar of negative option in the poll – well above it, in fact. The Pro+ also leads its siblings in the popularity statistic we track on our site. Oppo Reno6 Pro+ key features Oppo Reno6 Pro key features Oppo Reno6 key features So, what went wrong? Samsung Galaxy A32 5G in for review Posted: 05 Jun 2021 06:33 PM PDT The cheapest 5G phone of any given maker is something of a hot topic lately. Sadly making an affordable 5G device means having to cut more corners elsewhere, making most of these cheapest 5G phones flawed in enough ways to warrant forgoing the advanced network speed for a cheaper and better LTE phone. This is especially true in the case of the Galaxy A32 5G, which we have today. We recently reviewed its LTE counterpart and at that point it seemed easy to recommend over this 5G model. With the 5G version that we have now change our minds? Let's start with an unboxing - the Galaxy A32... |

Xiaomi Mi 9 SE global starts receiving Android 11/MIUI 12.5 stable update Posted: 05 Jun 2021 10:20 AM PDT Xiaomi's Mi 9 SE has originally launched with Android 9 a little over two years ago so it's nice to see that the OEM is keeping tabs on its older devices too. The new update doesn't bump the MIUI version of the software but it delivers the newer version of Android 11. The MIUI 12.5 update based on Android 11 has already been distributed to the Chinese users back in March so the global variant is due as well. Also, keep in mind that this is a staged rollout so some markets may have to wait a couple of days before they get the chance to update to V12.5.1.0.RFBMIXM., which is the global... |
