Weekly poll: the OnePlus 9 series shoots for the moon, but are you on board? Posted: 28 Mar 2021 07:32 AM PDT This week OnePlus started writing a new chapter in its history. It found a camera partner of its own to rival the Leica/Huawei and ZEISS/vivo joint operations. And it jumped to the front of the LTPO queue even though some heavy hitters like Apple are yet to adopt the new type of OLED display. But the company also cranked up the prices slightly. For example, the OnePlus 9 Pro starts at €900, last year you could have bought an 8 Pro for $900. OnePlus lost the pretense of selling "flagship killers" years ago, but pricing your phone above the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra is a bold... |
Posted: 28 Mar 2021 04:01 AM PDT As far as the smartphone world goes the past week was one of the most exciting in recent memory. We had nearly two dozens new announcements and you'd be forgiven for having missed a few. So here we are compiling a neat list and getting you up to speed. It was a relatively slow start with the China-exclusive iQOO U3x, but then it was time for Poco to take the stage and introduce the X3 Pro and F3. vivo and Realme gave us a couple of entry-level phones with the Y72 5G and C25 respectively, while Honor only aimed a bit higher with the V40 Lite and Tab 7. Another round of premium... |
Asus ROG Phone 5 Ultimate mini review Posted: 28 Mar 2021 12:33 AM PDT Introduction There is no point in pretending the ROG Phone 5 Ultimate is anything but a "flex". Nothing wrong with that either - Asus itself knows it too well and has stressed multiple times that the Ultimate edition of its already industry-leading gaming handset will only be available in very small numbers, likely to be used mostly as a promotional tool. A theory further backed-up by the fact that we and many other media outlets got one and it was accompanied, as promised, by a whole box of ROG "swag". A hat, some badges, a towel, a face mask and some Lego-style building blocks. You can... |
Redmi's gaming phone to come with Dimensity 1200 and shoulder buttons Posted: 27 Mar 2021 09:06 PM PDT Redmi's General Manager teased the company's upcoming gaming phone a couple of months ago and little has been revealed since. Now the renowned Weibo tipster, Digital Chat Station revealed a few key details surrounding Xiaomi's mysterious gaming phone. A flat OLED panel with a tiny punch-hole design for the selfie cam would be placed on the front, just like the Mi 11 and Redmi K40. They both boast Samsung's brand new E4 panel. Driving those pixels would be the Dimensity 1200 chipset while a 5,000mAh battery will ensure uninterrupted gaming sessions. It's expected to support 65W fast... |
Weekly poll results: Samsung Galaxy A52 strikes gold, the 5G version even more so Posted: 27 Mar 2021 06:02 PM PDT Samsung has successfully tuned the Galaxy A-series to people's preferences. The A52 in particular is going to be quite popular, both flavors of the phone were well received in last week's poll. The Samsung Galaxy A52 5G came out on top, showing that next-gen connectivity is an important consideration for many. Compared to its 4G twin, it also has an upgraded chipset (Snapdragon 750G vs. 720G) and a higher refresh rate for its screen (120Hz vs. 90Hz). Infographics with the key details: Galaxy A52 • Galaxy A52 5G • Galaxy A72 The 4G version of the Galaxy A52 proved fairly... |
LG V60 ThinQ 5G Android 11 update will rollout in Canada starting March 31 Posted: 27 Mar 2021 03:00 PM PDT Verizon's LG V60 ThinQ 5G UW received the Android 11 update in the US last month, and next week it will be the V60 ThinQ 5G locked to Canadian carrier Telus' network that will get a taste of the latest version of Android. Telus has updated its software update schedule page and revealed its V60 ThinQ 5G will receive the Android 11 update starting March 31. But it's worth mentioning that not all units locked to Telus' network will get Android 11 next Wednesday, and it will be a few weeks before all units receive the update. V60 ThinQ 5G users should expect the update to bring along... |
Samsung Galaxy S21's Director's View feature could trickle down to Galaxy S20 5G Posted: 27 Mar 2021 12:00 PM PDT The Samsung Galaxy S21 series unveiled in January comes with a Director's View camera feature, which could soon make its way to last year's Galaxy S20 5G. That's because T-Mobile USA has updated its software support page for the Galaxy S20 5G to include instructions on how to use Director's View. Samsung Galaxy S21 series smartphones One might argue that could be a mistake, more so because the wrong Android version is mentioned, but we've seen Samsung bring features from its latest flagship to older smartphones in the past, so we may see Director's View trickle down from the S21 to... |
Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G passes through TENAA signaling near release Posted: 27 Mar 2021 09:00 AM PDT An alleged Redmi Note 10 5G has surfaced on TENAA and although we didn't find the original listing there, the so-called Digital Chat Station (a famous Weibo tipster) has unearthed the images and the key specs, so we have a good reason to believe him. More importantly, the certification suggests that the actual release is underway. Images from the TENAA listing However, there's a small discrepancy between the listed specs and the recently announced Redmi Note 10 5G. It still has the same design, 6.5-inch 90Hz IPS display, 5,000 mAh battery and 48MP main camera, but the charging... |
