Posted: 18 Mar 2021 07:33 AM PDT

Madhav Sheth tweeted that the Realme 8 series will be the first phones to run Realme UI 2.0 out of the box. That's not 100% right as the Realme GT (which already completed its first flash sale) does run version 2.0 of the company's custom software. However, the GT is available only in China for now and Sheth is CEO of Realme India and Europe. For those regions at least he is correct. #realme8series will be the first to run #realmeUI 2.0 right out of the box!Get ready to experience #SeamlessFun for Gen-Z. pic.twitter.com/kJvcra0lqN— Madhav108MP (@MadhavSheth1) March 18, 2021 Anyway,...

Oppo Find X3 Pro starts receiving update, finally has 1 Hz-120 Hz adaptive refresh rate

Posted: 17 Mar 2021 11:02 PM PDT

Oppo launched the Find X3 Pro with an LTPO screen, and in theory, it could support adaptive refresh rate from 1 Hz to 120 Hz. The Chinese company promised the flagship would have this feature, but launched it without, just to push it through an OTA update, starting today. In theory, the Find X3 Pro will recognize what app is being used and will reduce the refresh rate of the screen, thus lowering the battery consumption. For example, when previewing photos or using an e-reader app, it could get as low as 1 Hz, but in practice, it rarely happens. However, with the new update, the...

ROG Phone 5 snaps like a twig in durability test

Posted: 17 Mar 2021 02:22 PM PDT

We've grown accustomed to the JerryRig durability tests over the years as a measurement of smartphone build quality. Most recent phones usually pass the test without any noticeable issues but that wasn't the case with the brand new ROG Phone 5 from Asus. While having the standard glass and metal sandwich construction, the device has a weak point along the antenna line on the side frame. With some pressure applied to the back, the host was able to crack the frame and fatally damage the internal vibration motor. Another bend effort completely snaps the display despite the glass panel...

The LTPO AMOLED displays on the OnePlus 9 series will have 1-120 Hz adaptive refresh rate

Posted: 17 Mar 2021 01:01 PM PDT

One of the key advantages of this tech is that it easily supports adaptive refresh rate – CEO Pete Lau revealed that the OnePlus 9 duo will be able to go from 120Hz all the way down to 1Hz. This will be a boon for things like the Always On Display and other instances where the phone is showing a static screen. The CEO is also keen to point out that not all 120Hz panels are born the same. The upcoming phones will feature a high touch sampling rate (exact frequency is TBA), which will allow them to react to input...

Spy shots suggest that the Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro will also have a secondary display on the back

Posted: 17 Mar 2021 10:31 AM PDT

The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra will have a small display next to its camera – and so will the Mi 11 Pro, if this leak is to be believed. Parts for the camera island for the Pro version were photographed at the assembly line, showing an identical design. That means two lenses in the upper left, a periscope lens below and the display on the right. The tiny display will show a countdown if you activate the camera's self timer. It will have other functions too, of course, but it's usability when framing a selfie shot with the rear camera is the biggest unanswered question right now. Components...
