The latest OnePlus 9 leak comes from YouTuber Dave2D and gives us a good detailed look at the Pro model through a series of hands-on images. The overall design is quite similar to the non-Pro model which leaked back in December and was even auctioned off on eBay later that month. The Galaxy A12 has returned to the fourth position it held two weeks ago, while the Redmi Note 9 Pro has gained four positions to place fifth. In sixth we have the Galaxy S21, which keeps its downwards trajectory, while the iPhone 12 Pro Max is exactly where we left it last week - in seventh. Poco X3 takes eight as the Galaxy A51 managed to...

Exynos 2100 vs Snapdragon 888: Benchmarking the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra versions

Posted: 07 Feb 2021 02:55 PM PST

For quite some time now Samsung has been releasing two versions of most of its premium smartphones - one with a Qualcomm chipset and another one with its own Exynos chips. We won't be delving into the whole story of why that is right now, but one natural consequence has always been comparing the performance and characteristics of the two. Granted, it's more of a curiosity-driven endeavor since most users won't really get the option to pick and choose unless they are willing to import units from afar. Most of the world gets the Exynos, with the Snapdragons notably selling in the US and...

Our Redmi Note 9T video review is up

Posted: 07 Feb 2021 11:48 AM PST

We recently published our Redmi Note 9T written review and now it's time for our video version. This is the brand's most affordable 5G phone at just €229 but is it good enough to meet your daily needs and how does it stack up to competitors? The Note 9T features a plastic body with a nicely textured finish on the back. Build quality feels solid and you certainly get a hefty device weighing in at 200 grams. The 6.53-inch IPS LCD is decent in daylight environments though color reproduction and peak brightness leave a little to be desired. The panel sports FHD+ resolution and a...

Sony PlayStation 5 review

Posted: 07 Feb 2021 08:37 AM PST

The new PlayStation 5 arrives seven years after the release of the original PlayStation 4 console in 2013. Although Sony launched the PlayStation 4 Pro in 2016, the Pro was a mid-cycle refresh focusing on targeting higher resolutions rather than a full generational upgrade. The PlayStation 5, however, is more of what you'd expect from a next-generation console. It is more powerful, yes, but it also features fast flash storage, improved connectivity, a brand new UI, a new controller, a new set of accessories, and support for a new generation of games that can take advantage of all its...

Weekly poll: how big should "mini" phones be?

Posted: 07 Feb 2021 05:14 AM PST

To this day you can still hear people on Internet forums complain that there are no small high-end phones. Is that true, though? But more importantly what constitutes "small" these days? One might say that the Apple iPhone 12 mini is the only true mini flagship around. You might be tempted to include the Sony Xperia 5 II on this list, but it's debatable whether it belongs – even Sony doesn't call it a Compact (a true Compact may be on the way, though). Check out the table below with some potential candidates for the mini flagship category. We included flagship-level models as well as...

Weekly poll results: most people prefer wireless in-ear headphone, the TWS kind specifically

Posted: 07 Feb 2021 02:01 AM PST

In last week's poll we asked you about your headphone preferences – it turns out that True Wireless (TWS) headsets really are the new hotness. In-ear designs in general are preferred over other designs and, on a broader scale, wireless headphones are beating out their wired cousins. Perhaps, we shouldn't be surprised that every company under the sun has launched at least one TWS headset. And you can bet that sales will only go up, now that makers have started removing the basic wired headsets from the retail packages of flagship phones (and lower-ranked models usually came...

Week 5 in review: Exynos 2100 vs Snapdragon 888 tests, Oppo Find X3 series leak

Posted: 06 Feb 2021 09:47 PM PST

Another week is over, so let's look at the big stories it brought. This one was an eventful one. Our top story was a drop test, featuring the Galaxy S21 Ultra and the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Neither came out looking good so maybe don't watch it if are faint of heart. We saw a couple of deep-dives into the Galaxy S21 Ultra. One looked in-depth at the new Exynos 2100 chipset and its power draw and performance compared to the Snapdragon 888 and the Exynos 990 from last year. The conclusion is that the Snapdragon 888 is a bit more efficient in the way it delivers its power, but can lead to more...

Flashback: The phone that ran on AA batteries

Posted: 06 Feb 2021 06:33 PM PST

A single AA battery. That's all that is needed to power the most basic phone dubbed SpareOne Plus. As you can tell by the name, this one is intended to be a backup phone only to be used in case of emergency (it was originally designed for first responders). Its best feature is that it can sit on a shelf for 15 years and be ready when you need it. Modern phones with their lithium batteries can't match such endurance – the self discharge rate can be as high as 2% per month, meaning lithium batteries lose charge even if the device is completely powered down. And they are, of course,...

Posted: 06 Feb 2021 02:10 PM PST

A Black Shark smartphone codenamed "kaiser" and bearing model code KSR-A0 was spotted on Google Play Console last week with a FullHD+ screen and 8GB RAM. It is likely the Black Shark 4, and while we wait for its official launch date, a new Black Shark phone has appeared on the Google Play Console with model designation PRS-A0 and codename "penrose". The PRS-A0, said to be the Black Shark 4 Pro, is listed on Google Play Console with Android 11, 12GB RAM, and a FullHD+ screen. The SoC is SM8250, which is the Snapdragon 865. But this could be a mistake since the Black Shark 4, which will...
