Today, in yet another edition of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 vs. Exynos 2100, we are taking a closer look at sustained chipset performance and thermal throttling. As usual - for context - Samsung has been releasing two versions of its premium smartphones - one with a Qualcomm chipset and another one with its own Exynos chips. So, as usual, we dig in to find any potential differences between the two versions. In other words, is... |
Weekly poll results: 128GB is the new sweet spot for base storage, microSD cards still important Posted: 21 Feb 2021 04:31 AM PST A couple of years ago most people were satisfied with 64-128 GB storage, but requirements have grown since – now most people are looking at 128GB to 256GB for their next phone, according to last week's poll. The new poll skewed towards higher storage capacities. 128 GB is the sweet spot right now, but it won't be long before 256GB becomes the preferred option. It already is for some and a not-insignificant part of voters are looking at 512GB. Things are changing pretty quickly – two years ago, people that needed 256GB (or more) were in the minority. Now they are pretty common. What... |
Indian Xiaomi Poco M2 units are receiving February 2021 security patches Posted: 21 Feb 2021 01:18 AM PST Xiaomi appears to be keeping a decently tight security update schedule for the Poco M2 in India. After dropping the major MIUI 12 overhaul package back in December, the Chinese manufacturer is now seeding a V12.0.3.0.QJPINXM package to Indian units. Poco M2 Pro Indian variant is now getting February 2021 security patch in MIUI version V12.0.3.0.QJPINXM weighing 587MB.#PocoM2Pro #M2Pro pic.twitter.com/yvqaHb8uwy— Abhishek Yadav (@yabhishekhd) February 20, 2021 As per the changelog, the OTA update seems to only include Google's February 2021 Android security patches. Exclusive: Realme GT pictured at MWC Shanghai Posted: 20 Feb 2021 10:06 PM PST MWC Shangai is starting on Tusday but we already have our first bit of news from the showfloor. We got an image of the Realme booth from somebody working on the ground and it gives us another look at the upcoming GT 5G flagship. The Realme GT 5G is depicted in its Bulbelbee leather finish and is certainly one of the more intriguing designs lately. We can also make out 64MP next to the camera, confirming the main sensor. We also see another camera, likely an ultrawide module and a quad-LED flash. Previously the company confirmed the Realme GT 5G will be powered by a... |
Hot take: Motorola Moto G30 and G10 Posted: 20 Feb 2021 08:05 PM PST The early Moto G phones from Motorola were known as excellent mid-range phones with sensible prices. However, the brand has taken on a scattershot approach recently and it's difficult to make heads or tails out of its product lineup. The Moto G30 and G10 are a simple enough proposition – high resolution cameras and long lasting batteries at a reasonable price. The G30 even throws in a few goodies like a 90Hz display and 20W fast charging. Before we dig into the details, we should note that the two phones will launch in Europe before the end of the month. The G30 will cost €180 and the... |
Redmi 9 Power with 6GB/128GB memory allegedly coming to India Posted: 20 Feb 2021 05:00 PM PST The Redmi 9 Power made its debut in India in December last year and was almost immediately met with a bit of confusion, since it appeared to oddly encroach on the company's Poco M3 market share in an obvious way. The Redmi 9 Power is pretty-much a re-branded Redmi Note 9 4G, with an extra 2MP macro camera thrown into the mix. Still, that made it essentially identical in specs to the popular Poco M3 and even a bit cheaper in its base tier at some retailers, while offering an extra 8MP ultrawide snapper. Redmi 9 Power has four color options That is admittedly a bit of a weird... |
Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G's One UI 3.1 update rolling out again Posted: 20 Feb 2021 02:30 PM PST Samsung released One UI 3.1 update for the Galaxy S20 FE 5G (SM-G781B) in over a dozen European countries last week, but the rollout was halted shortly after. Samsung didn't release an official statement revealing the reasons for pulling the update, but the good news is it has now resumed the rollout of One UI 3.1 for S20 FE 5G. The update requires a download of over 1.7GB and carries the same version number as before - G781BXXU2CUB5. It is seeding in Europe as of writing this and if you haven't received it on your device yet, you can check for it manually by navigating to the Settings >... |
nubia Red Magic 6 is coming on March 4 Posted: 20 Feb 2021 12:30 PM PST Chinese phone maker nubia's been teasing the Red Magic 6 since last year, and today, the company VP Mr. Ni Fei confirmed that Red Magic 6 will be unveiled on March 4 in China - the same day Realme is launching the GT 5G. However, Realme's launch event will begin at 2PM China time, whereas nubia's will start at 7PM. In his Weibo post, Mr. Fei said the Red Magic 6 will come with the four fastest technologies (machine translated from Chinese). vivo iQOO Neo5 appears in 3C certification and live photo with "just" 66W fast charging Posted: 20 Feb 2021 10:30 AM PST One of the more-exciting bits about the upcoming vivo iQOO Neo5, as suggested by earlier rumors, was definitely the prospect of 88W wired charging, potentially even backed-up by 66W of wireless on a more budget-friendly device, said to sell between CNY2,998 and CNY3,598 (around $464 and $572). Unfortunately, a new 3C rectification listing, as well as a live photo of the phone's charger seem to put that to rest. 3C certification Apparently, some numbers originally got mixed-up since 3C's data clearly indicated that the iQOO Neo5, also known by its V2055A model number, will be... |
Redmi Note 10 Pro Max said to join the vanilla Note 10 and Note 10 Pro at March 4 launch Posted: 20 Feb 2021 08:30 AM PST Xiaomi has managed to keep a surprisingly tight lid on Redmi Note 10 details thus far. As far as official info goes, we know that the announcement date is set for March 4 and we have a short and basic list of some things to expect. Notably - Gorilla Glass protection, IP52 rating, and at least on one of the models - a flat display, with a punch hole selfie, a curved back and a side-mounted fingerprint reader. As per some new industry insider info, we now believe that the Redmi Note 10 series will include at least a trio of devices - the vanilla model, which is likely the one on the... |
