New BlackBerry phones with classic hardware keyboards and 5G are coming this year Posted: 12 Feb 2021 07:47 AM PST The partnership between BlackBerry and TCL ended last year but it took only a few months before a new company stepped up – OnwardMobility announced that it will design and sell BlackBerry-branded phones in 2021. Today, CEO Peter Franklin confirmed that his company is on track to do just that. The phones will be easy to recognize – they will have that classic BlackBerry hardware keyboard. They will be all modern on the inside, however, and will support 5G networks. Currently, OnwardMobility is working with Foxconn to develop the first models. These devices will be released in North... |
Samsung Galaxy S21 family gets another software update Posted: 12 Feb 2021 06:58 AM PST The Samsung Galaxy S21 trio got yet another software update. The changelog isn't very descriptive, but coming so shortly after the last one it's likely that the new release is here to fix the battery drain issues some users reported after the previous OTA update. The new firmware version is G99xBXXU1AUB6, it's 257MB big and carries February 2021 security patch along with it. It's still not available for everyone but it seems that the initial rollout is fairly wide as users across most of Europe have already downloaded it. Via |
Moto E7 Power hits Geekbench with Helio P22 chipset Posted: 12 Feb 2021 06:11 AM PST Motorola has a bunch of Mediterranean codenamed mid-rangers in the pipeline - Ibiza, Capri, Athena - and now we can Motorola Malta to the list. Alleged to hit the market as the Moto E7 Power, the phone appeared on Geekbench with a Helio P22 chipset and 4GB of RAM. Motorola Moto "Malta" E7 Power on Geekbench The single-core score of 152 and the multi-core result of 879 are anything but impressive. There's a reason for that - the Helio P22 platform is almost three years old, but the benchmark version is relatively new, and wasn't a stellar performer even when it was fresh. We... |

Apple Watch reaches 100 million users Posted: 12 Feb 2021 04:29 AM PST Above Avalon has posted a comprehensive Apple Watch analysis citing 100 million units shipped worldwide, although only 10% of the active iPhone users, which is around 1 billion, use the device. That's still not bad considering that the first Apple Watch launched back in 2015 and it has remained among the most expensive products in its category since. Plus 2020 has been a particularly good year for Apple Watch as the company was able to ship 30 million units, which is more than 2015, 2016 and 2017 put together. The US market is fast to adopt the smart wearable lifestyle with... |
Google Photos' in-app video editor gains more options with latest update Posted: 12 Feb 2021 03:37 AM PST The latest Google Photos update adds an overhauled video editing experience with options for cropping, perspective change, granular edits (brightness, contrast, saturation, warmth) and built-in filters. Previously the built-in video editor only allowed you to trim video length, apply software stabilization and rotate your content. Google One members are getting additional photo editing options which were until now exclusive to Pixel phones. These include Portrait Blur and Portrait Light which rely on machine learning to blur backgrounds and add lighting on faces on already captured... |

Now as per the latest report Realme is about to further expand its portfolio by adding gaming accessories to it. An image of Narzo-themed gaming mouse, mouse pad and what looks like an air controller of some sort was shared by a reliable leakster. The mouse is a carbon copy of Logitech's staple G502 Hero, which could suggest a collaboration between the two companies. The air controller has a trigger on the rear, similar to an... |
Disney+ reaches 95 million subscribers Posted: 12 Feb 2021 02:04 AM PST Video streaming platform Disney+ experiences rapid growth ever since its launch - hardly a surprise considering the substantial investments made in it. However it has seemingly exceeded its own expectations - its initially stated official goal was to hit 90 million subscribers in 2024 but the service has already surpassed 95 million. Disney+'s new goal is now 230-260 million users and, which would see it closely rival Netflix which is now sitting at 200 million subs. It's interesting to note that in December, the service had 86.8 million paid subscribers, which means that it has... |

vivo patents a flip phone with an outward folding screen Posted: 11 Feb 2021 11:46 PM PST Smartphone companies are experimenting with a number of different solutions as we enter the era of foldable devices. The latest clue as to what the future holds comes from a vivo patent for a design that looks like a reverse Motorola StarTAC - an outward hinge at the bottom and display extending to the back panel. The listing has appeared at CNIPA (Chinese National Intellectual Property Administration) with sketches from all sides, revealing vivo even plans to put five cameras (one of them with a periscope lens) on the back in an X formation on a square island. There's also room for... |
Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra stars in a hands-on video: 120X zoom and secondary screen revealed Posted: 11 Feb 2021 11:00 PM PST The Xiaomi Mi 11 unveiled last December in China made its global debut earlier this week. We expected Xiaomi to introduce the Mi 11 Lite and Mi 11 Pro at the event, but that didn't happen. And while there's still no word from the Chinese phone maker about the Lite and Pro models, the Mi 11 Ultra has appeared in a hands-on video. A Filipino YouTuber uploaded the Mi 11 Ultra video on YouTube channel Tech Buff PH. The video is currently set to private, but not before it was mirrored for everyone to watch. The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra reminds us of the Poco M3, thanks to the huge camera bump on... |
Google Pixel 4a 5G is down to £399 in the UK for Valentine's Day Posted: 11 Feb 2021 07:59 PM PST To celebrate Valentine's Day, Google has decided to do everyone in the UK a solid and lower the price of its Pixel 4a 5G temporarily. The phone usually retails at £499, but now you can have one for just £399, thus saving a cool £100 in the process. That's a very good deal, and it makes the Pixel 4a 5G much more approachable than it usually is. Despite the naming, think of this as being akin to a larger version of the Pixel 5, albeit without a high refresh rate screen, with a smaller battery and with lesser materials. The two phones share almost everything else (aside from screen and... |
Galaxy A52 and A72 now said to feature high refresh rate displays, A52 5G gets IP67 rating too Posted: 11 Feb 2021 05:43 PM PST Samsung will soon make its new hero A-series mid-rangers official, the Galaxy A52 and A72, along with their 5G-capable versions. As we're nearing their release, we've seen plenty of rumors about them recently, and the latest one today comes to contradict some of the past mumblings. Specifically, what this says is that the Galaxy A52 and A72 will both have 90 Hz displays, while the A52 5G will get a 120 Hz refresh rate. The difference is assumed to be related to the chipset choice. Both 4G variants of the A52 and A72 will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 720, while the A52 5G will have... |
Biden Administration looking at new restrictions on tech exports to China Posted: 11 Feb 2021 03:25 PM PST The bitter US-China relations from the past two years and the resulting Huawei ban saga during the Trump administration left a significant dent in the smartphone world. More recently, Xiaomi was accused of being a "Communist Chinese military company" which prevents American companies from investing in it and could lead to more troubles for the Chinese smartphone maker down the road. With the new US administration headlined by President Joe Biden hopes were high that we might see a change in tone from the US side. However, Reuters is reporting that the US government will "look at adding new... |

New Samsung mid-rangers incoming as support pages go live: M62, A52 5G and A32 Posted: 11 Feb 2021 01:12 PM PST Samsung has put up a couple of support pages on its different websites signaling the imminent release of several new smartphones. The one that steals the spotlight is probably the Galaxy M62 - a rumored handset supposed to lead the company's entry-level lineup. The support page itself reveals only the model number but since that aligns with some previous leaks we do get a few specs. The SM-M625F is said to pack an Exynos 9825 SoC (the one that powers up the Galaxy Note10-series) and a 7,000 mAh battery. That makes us wonder, however, why the M62 and the recently teased F62 would... |

Realme's next earbuds will feature ANC Posted: 11 Feb 2021 11:07 AM PST We've seen reports at least two different upcoming Realme TWS earphones - the Buds Q2 and the Buds Air 2 but we might be getting a third one as well. According to this leaked image, the company is bringing a set of Buds with active noise canceling, which was reserved for the Pro edition in the initial lineup. Google is still in the A/B testing phase so you may not have the... |
Fitbit Charge 4 update shows SpO2 data on the band itself, tracks skin temperature Posted: 11 Feb 2021 09:25 AM PST The Fitbit Charge 4 is receiving its second major update. While the previous one was focused on positioning, this one (first spotted by Wareable) is all about health data as several Fitbit Sense features have been ported over. First off, the Charge 4 now shows proper readings from its SpO2 sensor on the smart band itself. You can use the new blood-oxygen watch face to keep an eye on that. Also, the band will now track your skin temperature (something only the premium Sense watch could do). Even better, Fitbit is making the Health Metrics dashboard free for Charge 4, Versa 2 and Inspire... |
