Weekly poll: who is in for a Moto G9 Power or Moto G 5G and who is out? Posted: 08 Nov 2020 07:16 AM PST After all these years Motorola's G-series can still draw in a crowd – the company announced two new models this week, one will sell for €200, the other for €300, both are ranking pretty highly in our daily interest statistics. Let's look at the Moto G9 Power first. Long story short, you'll be getting a 64MP camera and just enough computing power to do image processing, a large screen and a battery to last a marathon. Doesn't sound too bad for €200, does it? Okay, that 6.8" screen has only 720p+ resolution, which isn't great for text or even watching videos (if you have good eyesight,... |
Understanding HDR10 and Dolby Vision Posted: 08 Nov 2020 03:12 AM PST One of the most popular buzzwords today in the world of technology is HDR. Everywhere you go, you see televisions, video streaming services, game consoles, and even smartphones advertising that they are HDR compatible. Introduced back in 2015, HDR was meant to go beyond the unimaginative resolution bumps that characterized most of the video improvements at that point and do something more meaningful. Instead of just having more pixels, the goal here was to have better pixels. The focus was on improving the dynamic range by allowing a greater variation in the light output levels while also... |
Weekly poll results: fans give OnePlus Nord N10 5G and N100 the cold shoulder Posted: 07 Nov 2020 11:12 PM PST As the popularity of OnePlus rose, so did the prices of its phones. It was interesting to see the company revisit its old stomping ground of the sub-€400 phone as there's always a need for a great value-for-money phone. Is the original Nord OnePlus' Poco moment? Maybe, but it's too early to tell. However, last week's poll makes it pretty clear that the OnePlus Nord N10 5G sure isn't it – it's not a phone that will be talked of with reverence for years after its launch. With a measly 13% positive vote, it may not be talked about much at all. There's too much competition in the... |
Flashback: weird phones from unexpected brands part 2 - Pepsi, Onkyo, Kodak, Red Posted: 07 Nov 2020 07:07 PM PST Last month we looked at some phones from unexpected brands, but that wasn't nearly all of them. Today we'll look at some more oddball phones from companies whose business is quite different (sometimes completely unrelated to electronics). Pepsi P1 Is Pepsi okay? Regardless of your soft drink preferences, you probably didn't expect Pepsi to make a smartphone. There were two phones, actually, the Pepsi P1 and P1S, and they tried launched in China with a crowdfunding campaign on JD.com. The Pepsi P1 and P1s tried to launch with a crowdfunding campaign That plan backfired on the... |
Realme Narzo 20 Pro hands-on review Posted: 07 Nov 2020 01:22 PM PST Introduction The Nazro 20 Pro is the top-dog in the second generation of the Narzo series and notably more premium than the vanilla Narzo 20 and the Narzo 20A. The 20 Pro is actually quite similar to the global version of the Realme 7. That includes things like a more powerful MediaTek Helio G95 chipset, a higher resolution 90Hz display and 65W SuperDart charging support for its 4,500 mAh battery. It's clear that the Pro is further from the vanilla 20 than the vanilla to the 20A. Realme Narzo 20 Pro specs at a glance: Body: 162.3x75.4x9.4mm, 191g; Colors: White Knight, Black... |
Google Photos' Colour Pop editing feature put behind a paywall for photos without depth info Posted: 07 Nov 2020 09:30 AM PST The Google Photos app is not just a photo management app, but also a photo editing app with some nice editing features. One of them is Colour Pop, which allows you to keep the subject in color and turn the background black and white. It is free to use with photos having depth information (such as Portrait Mode), but if you want to use it with photos lacking the depth information, you'll have to purchase the Google One subscription. Buying Google One subscription unlocks editing features on Google Photos It's unclear what other editing features Google will put behind the paywall in... |
