LG Q63 (or Q83) renders show a distinctive triangular camera bump Posted: 17 Nov 2020 08:17 AM PST The LG Q63 name was lumped with 12 other trademark applications for various LG models. However, the first CAD-based renders of the phone – or of the related LG Q83 – show that it's more than a face in the crowd. It will have distinctive design that stands out from the current Q-series phones and may set the design language for LG's 2021 mid-rangers. The camera bumps is triangular with one big lens in the corner and two smaller modules to the side. Besides the LED flash, there's an extra sensor, but there are no details on the camera features so far, so we can only guess at its... |
Huawei asks UK to reconsider ban now that Trump lost Posted: 17 Nov 2020 07:26 AM PST Huawei is having a turbulent period in the past two years, being a major hostage in the trade war between the United States and China. One of the setbacks the Chinese company suffered is its ban for supplying carriers with 5G equipment in the United Kingdom. In an interview with The Guardian, Victor Zhang, Huawei's vice president, said he is hoping the decision could be revisited since Donald Trump was not reelected for US President and "the new US administration would adopt a different approach." Victor Zhang, Vice-President at Huawei Initially, the United Kingdom allowed carriers... |
Snapdragon 875 in Galaxy S21 benchmarked, but the Exynos 2100 might be the one to have Posted: 17 Nov 2020 06:35 AM PST Samsung is expected to introduce its Galaxy S21 lineup in January, and as usual, the phones will arrive with Snapdragon 875 or Exynos 2100 chipset, depending on the market. The variant with Qualcomm's platform appeared on Geekbench and reached a 3,319 multi-core score, but according to leaksters, this is not nearly enough - the Exynos 2100 version will be able to reach nearly 4,000. Samsung Galaxy S21 phone on Geekbench Over the past few years the Snapdragon variant of the Galaxy S flagships available in China, South Korea and the US offered better power management, which lead some... |
All Redmi K40 phones will have high refresh rate screens and fast charging, claims leakster Posted: 17 Nov 2020 05:48 AM PST The current Redmi K30 line-up is a bit of a mess with screen refresh rate ranging from 60Hz through 120Hz to 144Hz across various LCD and OLED panels. Similarly, the phones have 27W, 30W or 33W fast charging. According to Weibo leakster Digital Chat Station, the upcoming K-series flagships should be more unified. All Redmi K40 models will have fast refresh screens and fast charging. Don't expect massive improvements from the current generation, though, the 3C already certified a possible K40 (Pro?) phone with 33W fast charging using the same MDY-11-EX power brick as the K30... |
Samsung Galaxy M12 renders show an A42-like design Posted: 17 Nov 2020 04:57 AM PST Samsung is working on an entry-level Android with a massive 7,000 mAh battery. It will likely be named "Galaxy M12", though F12/F12s is also a possibility. Anyway, we saw live photos of an unfinished back panel earlier this month, now @OnLeaks has filled in the blanks with CAD-based 3D renders of the phone. The design is very similar to the recently announced Galaxy A42 5G. The screen will be a flat 6.5" panel, an LCD this time – notice the side-mounted fingerprint reader (also consider M12's price class). The resolution will be 720p+ at best as even the A42 5G has a 720 x 1,600 px... |

OnePlus 9 also spotted on Geekbench Posted: 17 Nov 2020 02:37 AM PST Yesterday we saw the OnePlus 9 Pro in a Geekbench listing, flexing its Snapdragon 875 chipset and 8GB RAM. That phone had the LE2117 model number and now we have its non-Pro counterpart with the LE2113 codename in another Geekbench test run. Posted: 17 Nov 2020 01:45 AM PST Last year at its Inno Day event, Oppo unveiled AR glasses, and this year it's back with a much improved version. While the previous iteration seemed to model VR glasses in design, this time around, with the Oppo AR Glass 2021, we're getting something that's much closer to a casual pair of eyewear. Not quite there yet entirely, but definitely closer. Oppo says the AR Glass 2021 is 75% lighter than its predecessor, while connecting it to a Find X2 Pro smartphone through a USB-C to USB-C cable results in a big boost in performance thanks to the Snapdragon 865 chipset. The Birdbath... |
Oppo unveils rollable smartphone concept Posted: 17 Nov 2020 01:30 AM PST Oppo is no stranger to shaking up the smartphone design status quo. Back in 2013, the Oppo N1 had a rotating camera followed by 2018's Find X which got rid of the notch thanks to its slide-out cameras. Now the maker is yet again redefining the norms with its Oppo X 2021 rollable concept phone. The biggest wow factor with this device is that it doesn't have a fixed display size as it can adjust between 6.7 and 7.4-inches in diagonal which presents new opportunities for developers and users. Oppo gives the example of clicking a video link which then results in the screen adjusting for... |

Report: Apple begins testing folding iPhone for possible release in 2022 Posted: 16 Nov 2020 09:00 PM PST Ever since Samsung developed and marketed the Galaxy Fold, speculation had sparked that Apple was working on a folding iPhone competitor. We've already seen Apple snag a few folding device patents (1,2,3) but patents alone don't signify that a product will come as a result. A new report from Economic Daily claims that Apple is being sent samples of folding phones from its Chinese suppliers including Foxconn and New Nikko. Apple is reportedly evaluating whether to use OLED or microLED displays for a folding device. The decision will drastically change the folding device's manufacturing... |

With US restrictions severely limiting Huawei's telecom consumer and commercial businesses, the company had to resort to selling off its secondary smartphone brand: Honor (known as "Glory" before translating). At a difficult time when industrial technology elements are unsustainable and consumer businesses are under tremendous pressure, in order to allow Honor channels and suppliers to continue, Huawei Investment Holding Co., Ltd. decided to sell the entire Honor business assets. The purchaser is... |
Sony's Xperia 5 II and Xperia 1 II get huge price cuts in the UK for Black Friday Posted: 16 Nov 2020 05:21 PM PST Although we're still a ways off from Black Friday, a lot of companies seemingly can't wait for the actual day to arrive, and are launching "Black Friday" deals well in advance. That's the case with Sony in the UK, for example, which is doing something like this in partnership with Amazon. Buying the Xperia 1 II from Amazon right now means you'll only pay £799.99 for the privilege, which is down £300 from the initial recommended retail price. If you want a smaller flagship Sony phone, then how about the Xperia 5 II? This one launched at £799.99 earlier this year, but now you can have one... |
Google Pixel 4a is now available in new Barely Blue color Posted: 16 Nov 2020 01:54 PM PST Google's Pixel 4a may be a perfectly decent mid-range smartphone on the inside, but its outside has so far been incredibly boring, what with only one color version being available - Just Black. That's... functional, don't get us wrong, but maybe you want some more color in your life? If that's the case, then you should currently rejoice, for the Pixel 4a just got another hue: it's called Barely Blue, and as usual for Google, the name of the colorway is incredibly descriptive. As you can see from the image above, which shows it side by side with the black version, it is a very... |

Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max and 12 mini pass durability test Posted: 16 Nov 2020 07:44 AM PST Now that they're finally on sale, the iPhone 12 mini and 12 Pro Max are getting into peoples' hands and beginning their work life. And those buyers will be happy to know that the pair is just as durable as the iPhone 12/12 Pro. The Ceramic Shield screens both scratch at the usual level 6 on Mohs scale of hardness, but interestingly the grooves aren't as deep as those on last year's iPhone 11. Another interesting find is that a 50 second lighter test didn't do permanent damage to the screen pixels, like it does on all OLED panels. Perhaps the ceramic molecules in the screen glass have... |
