Posted: 04 Oct 2020 06:16 AM PDT Realme debuted as a smartphone brand back in May 2018, but it quickly expanded its ecosystem since, launching TWS earphones, wireless charger, power banks, fitness band, and even a smartwatch. The company also launched its first smart TV, simply called the Realme Smart TV, as it aims to bring more and more AIoT products to the market going forward as a part of its 1+4+N product strategy. The Realme Smart TV runs Android TV and comes in two sizes - 32" and 43" - having a resolution of 1366x768 and 1920x1080 pixels, respectively. Aside from the differences in screen size, resolution and... |
Weekly poll: is the Pixel 5 or Pixel 4a 5G your next phone? Posted: 04 Oct 2020 03:01 AM PDT At $350, the Pixel 4a is a decently affordable phone – far from the best value-for-money, but competitive with the iPhone SE (2020). But will you really shell out $500/€500/£500 for the Pixel 4a 5G? Despite what the name makes it sound like, 5G is only one of the upgrades – the new model has a more powerful chipset (Snapdragon 765G vs. 730G), a larger screen (6.2" vs. 5.81"), an extra camera (16 MP ultra wide) and a larger battery (3,885 mAh vs. 3,140 mAh). Does the $150 surcharge feel worth it now? And what if we told you that in some (not all, but some) countries you will get a free... |
Hot Take: Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G Posted: 03 Oct 2020 11:47 PM PDT After a lengthy courtship with leakers, the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G were finally officially announced by Google earlier this week. To say there was almost nothing that we didn't know already would be an understatement. However, despite our familiarity with what was going to be announced, there was still plenty to ponder over, and Google officially putting its seal of approval on top of it all makes it hard not to discuss it all. Simply put, the Pixel 4a 5G and especially the Pixel 5 aren't straightforward flagships that we have come to expect from Google. That may have something to... |
Weekly poll results: the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE gets embraced by fans Posted: 03 Oct 2020 08:31 PM PDT Last week's poll shows that the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE lives up to its name – it's a fan favorite, at least the 5G version is. Even if you don't care about the next-gen connectivity, this is the first Snapdragon-powered S-series phone in quite a while to arrive on the Old Continent. As for the 4G version of the Galaxy S20 FE, that has its defenders too – it's the cheapest S20 model right now and the Exynos 990 is a solid performer. Still, the Snapdragon 865 powered phone got just over 51% of the vote while the Exynos model secured only about 15%, it's clear which of the two is the preferred... |
Flashback: the Nexus 4 cost less than half what the Pixel 5 costs, but it had a flagship chipset Posted: 03 Oct 2020 05:22 PM PDT The Nexus line may have had a rocky start, but it elicits love from fans in a way that the Pixels never quite managed. The trouble with the Pixels is that they are premium phones with premium prices whereas the Nexus line invented the "flagship killer" in all but name. That came about with the Nexus 4, which launched at a price of $300/€300/£280 (for the 8GB model, $350/€350 for 16GB). A year after launch you could have it for as little as $200, but even the launch price is less than half of what Google is asking for the new Pixel 5 unveiled earlier this week. It's less than what the Pixel... |
4K YouTube starts rolling out to some Apple TV 4K users Posted: 03 Oct 2020 02:11 PM PDT YouTube is rolling out 4K support for Apple TV 4K devices, at least according to some Reddit users. From screenshots uploaded by these users, 24/30fps videos seem to be available in full 4K. However, it seems 60fps videos only seem to be available up to 1440p. According to the YouTube stats, all of these videos are playing in Google's VP9 codec. Image by u/vulcan_on_earth One big omission here is HDR. Even when playing videos that were uploaded in HDR, YouTube is still serving the SDR version. When Apple TV 4K was first launched three years ago, it supported 4K HDR playback... |
Google Calendar for Android and iOS gets Tasks integration Posted: 03 Oct 2020 10:50 AM PDT Google released the standalone Tasks app for Android and iOS back in April 2018, which is also integrated to Calendar on the web. But now Google has integrated Tasks for Calendar's Android and iOS apps as well, allowing you to create and view tasks from a mobile on Calendar. This integration should also eliminate the need to have the standalone Tasks app on your mobile since you can now create new tasks and view existing ones in the Calendar app. To add a new task in Calendar from the mobile apps, simply tap on the create button in the bottom-right corner, tap on 'Task', fill in the... |
New iPad shows up on GeekBench, A14 chip has some powerful cores Posted: 03 Oct 2020 08:40 AM PDT Apple announced the iPad Air (2020) on September 15, but the tablet is yet to go on sale. What's probably a pre-production unit has made it to GeekBench, showing us the performance of the new A14 Bionic chipset, also to be featured in the upcoming iPhone. The A14's CPU delivers mighty single-core performance - the 1583pts score is around 18% higher than what we have for the A13 in the iPhone 11 Pro. Crucially, it's also way ahead of the preliminary figures we have rumored for next year's Snapdragon 875 (1159pts) and Exynos 1000 (1159pts). Alleged iPad Air (2020) on... |
