The Nokia 3.4 was spotted in Geekbench results, which list the chipset as "Qualcomm Qualcomm" (that's not very helpful, is it?). but the score matches the vivo Y20 result – a phone that is expected to be equipped with the new Snapdragon 460 chipset. Posted: 20 Aug 2020 03:04 AM PDT

A couple of days ago we saw the Samsung Galaxy S20 Fan Edition renders in six different colors. Today @evleaks adds two 360° spins for a better look at the upcoming flagship. The colors seen in these spins don't quite match up with the ones in the renders, so keep that in mind. The left side of the phone is now completely bare as the volume rocker jumped on the right and the Bixby key was booted – these are changes shared by all 2020 Galaxy flagships. But this phone isn't a 1:1 copy of one of the current S20 models. For one, that triple camera on the back may appear...

The latter was reported to have Kirin 820 chipset, among other specs, but a reliable leakster on Weibo says the company is going to switch its in-house platform for a 5G chipset by Mediatek. There is no explanation why the switch might happen but given the recent troubles Huawei is having with its chipset arm, it is not surprising it wants to limit its in-house products for more valuable devices and not a China-only lineup - after all the Enjoy...

Xiaomi explains how it achieved 50 W wireless charging - 4,500 mAh fully charged in 40 minutes

Posted: 19 Aug 2020 03:15 PM PDT

The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra stunned with its 120 W wired charging support, but the 50 W wireless charging capability surpasses what many phones can do with a cable plugged in. Using Xiaomi's revamped charging technology, the phone's 4,500 mAh battery can be filled fully in just 40 minutes. The company posted a lengthy explanation on just how this technology works. The key was to change the layout of the bits between the coil and the battery – the charge pumps (these are DC-DC converters that are used to increase or decrease voltage). Instead of the traditional layout of having two charge...

Asus ROG Phone 3 gets the teardown treatment, there is a massive vapor chamber inside

Posted: 19 Aug 2020 02:15 PM PDT

The Asus ROG Phone 3 is about to play a high-stakes game of teardown – as always, the final boss is Zack from JerryRigEverything. The big question is how much of the design is there just to look cool and how much has an actual function. It turns out that the answer is "more than before". The glass window on the back has a vent to let hot air out (and a mesh to keep dust out). It sits right on top of a fairly chunky metal panel, which soaks up heat from the chipset through a layer of thermal paste. Another interesting element is the tiny board, which powers the RGB LEDs on the back –...
