Flashback: Android Gingerbread, the OS version that refused to die, was better than you think Posted: 03 May 2020 05:58 AM PDT Before it became the zombie OS version that just wouldn't die, Android 2.3 Gingerbread was a big deal - it brought so many things that we take for granted today, it put a new coat of paint on the UI and made the whole system more efficient. Introduced at the end of 2010, Gingerbread would grow quickly, becoming the most popular Android version less than a year later and claiming 50% market share in December of 2011. Google stopped updating the OS distribution charts last year, but there's evidence that v2.3 still roams the dark corridors and rattles chains to scare developers that want to...
Weekly poll: does the Mi Note 10 Lite have a place in Xiaomi's lineup? Posted: 03 May 2020 02:29 AM PDT Allow us to be your tour guide, showing you around the family tree of Xiaomi phones. We joke, but the product lineup has gotten quite busy with the unveiling of a "lite" version of the Mi Note 10 phones while at the same time two Redmi Note 9 phones go global. The Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite is essentially a cheaper version of the previous two Mi Note 10 models. You get the same 6.47" OLED display with curved sides, same Snapdragon 730G chipset, same 5,260mAh battery with 30W fast charge and so on. The camera is the main difference. The 108MP Samsung sensor is gone, replaced by the 64MP...
Weekly poll results: iPhone SE (2020) splits opinions Posted: 02 May 2020 10:59 PM PDT Last week we asked you if you'd buy the new iPhone SE (2020) and 46% of those who answered said they are interested. Interestingly enough the small powerful aspect of the phone excited more people than the relatively low asking price. Among those that find the iPhone SE (2020) not good enough far the 2014 bezels were far more of an issue than the solitary rear camera - by a nearly 3:1 margin. Those people that would buy the iPhone SE (2020) would more often choose 128GB as their base storage with 64GB chosen as a second option. Not many people would go for a 256GB model, which...
Our OnePlus 8 video review is up Posted: 02 May 2020 07:31 PM PDT The OnePlus 8 finally arrived mid-April, and it comes with a new curved display, neat colors, and the latest and greatest Snapdragon chipset. The company made its name manufacturing affordable flagships, but the OnePlus 8 starts from 699, which is not quite as aggressive as any of its predecessor. OnePlus 8 offers 30W fast-charging, and it reached 69% charge in just 30 minutes. Sadly, this phone does not support wireless charging, which is reserved for the OnePlus 8 Pro. One big change that OnePlus made is to remove the telephoto lens and put a depth sensor while keeping the exact...

The latest Meizu 17 teaser is all about that haptic mEngine 3.0 Posted: 02 May 2020 02:30 PM PDT Not long before, there were just a couple of Android phones that offered proper haptic feedback that could go against Apple's iPhones. But in the last two or so years, even more affordable Android phones started incorporating better haptic engines and Meizu follows suit. After a series of teasers about cameras, loudspeakers, high-refresh rate display and charging speeds, the company decided to let us in on the so-called mEngine 3.0 haptic feedback motor. The Weibo post reads "mEngine 3.0 horizontal linear motor" but we can't be entirely sure what that means. One would assume, though,...
The next Galaxy Z Flip could come with three cameras on its back, patent suggests Posted: 02 May 2020 12:30 PM PDT There are still plenty of time before Samsung launches the Galaxy Z Flip successor, but that doesn't mean that development hasn't started already. In fact, according to a design patent at WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office), Samsung is looking into two potential designs both of which include a triple-camera module on the back. The Model A features a familiar design with horizontal camera placement, but due to the bigger module, the secondary screen used for notifications looks a little bit smaller. Whereas Model B adopts a vertical stack giving much more room for the mini OLED...
