| OnePlus is disabling the Photochrome mode on the 8 Pro globally Posted: 29 May 2020 08:19 AM PDT OnePlus 8 Pro's Photochrome mode, which used an IR camera that can see through some plastics and thin clothing, proved controversial, so the company decided to disable it temporarily. Originally, it stated that this will affect only 8 Pro phones in China, but now an international update is rolling out that also disables the feature. Oxygen OS 10.5.9.IN11AA has only one item in its change log, which says that the Photocrhome filter will be "temporarily removed for adjustment". It promises that the feature will be re-enabled some time in June. The Photochrome mode on the OnePlus 8... |

It also boasts a quad stereo speaker setup tuned by AKG and a built-in fingerprint scanner. The Intel Core i5-L16G7 Lakefield chipset is paired... |

Before that was the OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren (a T-Mobile exclusive for the US) and the OnePlus 6T McLaren, which introduced Warp Charge 30, the company's first charger upgrade over the original Dash... |
| Apple starts selling refurbished iPhone XR units in the US Posted: 29 May 2020 05:04 AM PDT Apple kept the iPhone XR around as a lower cost alternative to the iPhone 11, knocking its price down to $600 - a sweet $150 discount from the original price and $100 less than the 11. However, it took until now for Apple to officially start selling refurbished XR units. A refurbished iPhone XR with 64GB storage will cost you $500. Then it's $540 for the 128GB model and $630 for the 256GB one (all of them unlocked). The color selection is limited by the storage you're looking for. Of course, things have changed since the iPhone 11 trio was unveiled - the iPhone SE (2020) was... |

| Qualcomm's new FastConnect chips bring blazing fast Wi-Fi 6E, BT5.2 with high quality audio Posted: 29 May 2020 02:40 AM PDT Earlier this year the FCC allowed the 6GHz band to be used for Wi-Fi, this was dubbed "Wi-Fi 6E". Now Qualcommm unveiled its first two 6E modems aimed at mobile applications - the FastConnect 6900 and 6700. Wi-Fi 6E can use almost 1,200MHz of spectrum, a significant expansion of what was already available. Better yet, the spectrum is fresh, that is there are no legacy devices getting in the way. This also means that the spectrum is contiguous (it doesn't have to go around legacy stuff), so it can fit a whopping seven 160 MHz channels - the 5 GHz band has room for only two. That... |

| Here's a look at the cancelled Google Pixel 4a XL Posted: 28 May 2020 06:32 PM PDT Last year Google did the (previously) unthinkable and diluted its oh-so-premium Pixel brand by launching a couple of mid-rangers, the Pixel 3a and 3a XL. It's been around a year since their launch, so we're expecting their successors any day now. Wait, no. There's going to be only one successor, the 4a, because the company has cancelled the 4a XL. If you were wondering what the 4a XL would have looked like had it ended up seeing the light of day, here are some renders for you. Google seems to continue living in its own parallel mobile world, where basic features don't matter, and,... |

However, two more models have joined the party today, as Huawei has started sending out updates to EMUI 10 based on Android 10 to both the P20 Pro and the Mate 10. The latter was launched in November 2017, being about two and a half years old at this point, and it's nice to see it wasn't forgotten by the Chinese company. It's certainly not every day that we see an Android device getting new Android releases after the two-year... |
