Report claims that Xiaomi phones collect browisng data from its users Posted: 01 May 2020 07:30 AM PDT According to a security researcher working with Forbes, Xiaomi has been collecting browsing data from users who are using Xiaomi phones and the built-in browser. And the fun part is that the browser does so even in incognito mode or even when using the privacy-conscious DuckDuckGo web browser. Gabriel Cirlig, the security researcher, is using a Redmi Note 8 as a daily driver and noticed that the device records pretty much everything he does on the phone and sends the data to servers in Russia and Singapore, although the domains are hosted in Beijing. We are talking screens, websites...
Meizu teases the 17 Pro with 129-degree ultra-wide cam and next-gen speakers Posted: 01 May 2020 06:30 AM PDT It seems like Meizu is pretty generous with information surrounding the upcoming Meizu 17-series lately as the company shares two more teasers. One claims that the Pro version would have a 129-degree ultra-wide camera and the other one is all about the great-sounding stereo loudspeakers. If the translation and the teaser itself is accurate, this could mean that the Meizu 17 Pro would sport one of the widest ultra-wide cameras on the market, if not the widest. Additionally, the lens will be paired with a 32MP sensor and we assume it does 4-to-1 pixel-binning. The two teaser...
DxOMark scored the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip right below the iPhone XS Posted: 01 May 2020 05:30 AM PDT One of the most impressive phones this year so far is undoubtedly the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. But that's mostly because of its form factor and flexible display. On the hardware front, the handset isn't anything special and DxOMark's camera review is a testament for that. The overall score reviewers gave the Galaxy Z Flip is 105 points, which isn't all that bad, for a phone launched in 2018, however. This score was just enough to put it right behind Apple's iPhone XS and XS Max - flagship phones from two years ago. There's nothing inherently wrong with the cameras, though, it's...
Xiaomi's Pocophone F2 might not have 5G, at least in some markets Posted: 01 May 2020 04:30 AM PDT The long-awaited Pocophone F1 successor might finally arrive in the coming months or weeks and judging by the frequency of the rumors lately, it will be sooner than later. But if you are having high hopes for the Pocophone F2 and 5G connectivity is on top of your priority list, you might have to look somewhere else. At least according to this snapshot from the TKDN certification in Indonesia. The model number M2004J11G matches the Pocophone F2's one and the listing clearly says it supports 4G-LTE bands and no word of 5G. Obviously, the chipset would still be the 5G-capable Snapdragon 865,...
Oppo A92 listed on Indensian store with complete specs and prices Posted: 01 May 2020 03:30 AM PDT The much-leaked Oppo A92 smartphone has been officially revealed, kind of. Although there's no official word from Oppo itself, the handset has been listed on an Indonesian store with full specs, prices and a couple of renders. In fact, the phone is up for pre-order and Lazada has bundled the device with a pair of wireless earphones. The asking price of the handset is IDR 3,999,000(245), but another seemingly identical listing says IDR 4,499,000 (275). Anyway, what you get is a tall 6.5-inch IPS display with 1080 x 2400px resolution powered by a Snapdragon 665 chipset paired with 8GB...
Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G gets a new color variant Posted: 01 May 2020 02:30 AM PDT The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G unveiled in February in Cosmic Gray and Cosmic Black shades gets a new color today - Cloud White. The S20 Ultra 5G Cloud White version comes in a single 12GB/256GB configuration priced at CNY9,999 ($1,415/1,290). It's already available for purchase in China through the company's official site, but availability in other markets is currently unknown. That said, the Cloud White paint job isn't new to the S20 series since the regular S20 and the Plus model both come in a Cloud White color, albeit with limited availability. The S20 and S20+ are...
Canalys: Demand for new phones has been crushed in Q1 2020 Posted: 01 May 2020 01:16 AM PDT Earlier today we received a report from Counterpoint Research, and now we have Canalys' own readings of the market performance. The results look similar - 13% total decline and under 300 million shipped units, but executives at the agency revealed "the impact on the smartphone channels is colossal". According to Canalys analyst Shengtao Jin, few smartphone vendors managed to withstand the impact of the global pandemic on the economic situation. Samsung, Apple, and Huawei recorded some losses, while Xiaomi managed to increase its volume 9% on a yearly basis. Vivo also recorded a slight...

Counterpoint: Smartphone sales in Q1 2020 decline 13% on a global scale Posted: 30 Apr 2020 11:10 PM PDT Counterpoint Research posted its analysis of the global smartphone market for Q1 2020, and the numbers do not look good at all. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, shipments fell 13% on a yearly basis, with the total being under 300 million - a number that was last reported in 2014. There were only two major companies that did not suffer a yearly decline in shipments - Xiaomi and Realme. All the others saw a decrease, but the overall picture remained the same - Samsung and Huawei are top sellers, Apple is comfortably third, and then plenty of China-based companies are in a battle for the last...
Android 10-based One UI 2 update delayed in India due to COVID-19 Posted: 30 Apr 2020 10:15 PM PDT Samsung has announced that the rollout of Android 10-based One UI 2 update for its Galaxy devices in India has been delayed. The delay has been caused due to the nation-wide lockdown in India imposed by the government to curb the spread of COVID-19. This information comes from Samsung through its Members app, and it's a bit vague since the company says "we're experiencing a slight delay" without revealing how much the update schedule is affected and when the rollout will commence. However, Samsung might resume its full operations and begin the rollout of One UI 2 update in...
HTC Vive announces Vive Sync for holding VR meetings, available for free in Beta Posted: 30 Apr 2020 09:22 PM PDT With COVID-19 pushing many industries to continue to conduct business online through tele-conferencing platforms, there's a new demand for presentation and business tools online. HTC is announcing a new presentation tool for its VR platform: the Vive. The platform is called Vive Sync, and it lets people conduct presentations in a virtual 3D space. The first aspect of the VR platform that's different from video conferencing is the use of personalized avatars. These avatars are full body and can convey body language in a presentation. Creating your avatar starts with a selfie....
Black Shark 3 and 3 Pro gaming phones land in Europe on May 8 Posted: 30 Apr 2020 07:32 PM PDT Xiaomi's gaming-oriented sub-brand Black Shark launched its latest devices in China in March, and now it's finally ready to bring them to Europe. Both the Black Shark 3 and the Black Shark 3 Pro will go on sale in Europe on May 8. Prices haven't been unveiled yet, but given Black Shark's past antics, expect them to be very competitive for the innards you are getting. And those innards are indeed nothing to scoff at. Black Shark 3 (left) and Black Shark 3 Pro (right) The Black Shark 3 has a 6.67" 1080x2400 AMOLED touchscreen with 90Hz refresh rate, the Snapdragon 865 SoC at the...
Intel unveils 10th generation Comet Lake desktop processors Posted: 30 Apr 2020 05:37 PM PDT Intel has taken the wraps off its 10th generation lineup of desktop CPUs. Codenamed 'Comet Lake', these new parts are still technically based on the 14nm 'Skylake' process from a few years ago but with multiple refinements. First, let's get one thing out of the way. Intel today announced 32 new models in its 10th generation lineup, starting with the Celeron chips at the bottom all the way up to the i9 10900K. We are not going to discuss all of them but just a select few. Having said that, as you can probably see from the part list below, most of the chips are just variations of...
Xiaomi Pocophone F2 Pro price in Europe leaks Posted: 30 Apr 2020 03:43 PM PDT People have been waiting a very long time for a successor to the Pocophone F1, 'flagship killer' of days past, and we're now closer than ever to the unveiling of that handset. It's no mystery anymore that it's going to be a rebranded Redmi K30 Pro, a device that went live in China back in March. And now we have an idea of what to expect in terms of pricing, at least for the Eurozone. According to a source in Portugal, the Pocophone F2 Pro is going to be priced over there at 649 for a model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. That goes up to 749 if you want 8GB of RAM and 256GB of...
Counterpoint: China smartphone sales declined 22% in Q1, Huawei extends lead Posted: 30 Apr 2020 01:12 PM PDT According to the latest report from Counterpoint Research, smartphone sales in China experienced the roughest quarter in recent memory, dropping by 22% compared to Q1 2019 values. As expected the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is the main reason for weak demand as shipments in February alone declined by 35% YoY. At the same time, tge share of online sales grew to 50%, up from 30% last year. Huawei was the only OEM to stay afloat during the period with a 6% increase in sales. Apple saw a mere 1% decline while vivo (-27%), Oppo (-30%) and Xiaomi (-35%) suffered significant setbacks. In terms...
Oppo A92 leaks in Aurora Purple, shows off an A72/A52 like design Posted: 30 Apr 2020 12:01 PM PDT Despite the similar names, the Oppo A92 seems to have more in common with the Oppo A72 than the A92s. You can see it clearly in the L-shaped layout of the quad camera on the back and the single punch hole on the front. Oppo A92 in Aurora Purple (leaked renders) We've seen leaked renders before, but these two from @evleaks offer a better look at the phone. The second image clearly shows the side-mounted fingerprint reader. This is just like the A72 and A92s and this similarity likely means that we're looking at an LCD instead of an AMOLED display. This gradient color is called...
iPhone 12 pricing leaks - no 5G premium Posted: 30 Apr 2020 11:07 AM PDT We keep getting bits and pieces of the upcoming iPhone 12 lineup - including almost finished design, and some specs. Well, we now have the first clues about pricing as well. Let's start with the premium ones. The iPhone 12 Pro with the 6.1-inch display will be selling for $999 while the iPhone 11 Pro Max successor with the massive 6.7-inch screen will ask $1,099. Which is exactly as much as their predecessors cost. The rumored budget duo, or in other words, the iPhone 11 successor with 6.1-inch display and the smaller variant featuring 5.4-inch diagonal, will be priced at $749 and...
Our Realme X50 Pro 5G video review is up Posted: 30 Apr 2020 10:14 AM PDT Realme launched its first true flagship last year, the Realme X2 Pro and it was a thoroughly impressive package at its price point. And now, we have the Realme X50 Pro 5G - a worthy successor of last year's flagship in many ways. More importantly, though, the Realme X50Pro 5G is one of the cheapest Snapdragon 865-powered smartphones around, offering amazing bang for the buck. Not to mention that features like 90Hz display, stereo loudspeakers, huge battery and insanely fast charging are not a novelty for Realme's flagship lineup. We've already done a detailed written...
Realme UI with Android 10 hits Realme 3 and 3i Posted: 30 Apr 2020 09:27 AM PDT Realme promised to deliver its home-baked custom overlay on top of Android 10 called Realme UI straying away from Oppo's ColorOS and it did so for a number of its phones already. Since yesterday, the Realme 3 and 3i also join the list and the new software brings a ton of new changes and features. It's important to note that the new Realme UI is entirely based on Android 10 and has more of that stock-ish look. Underneath it's still a ColorOS engine with all the performance tweaks that entails. The update itself weighs around 213MB and it's it's almost identical for the two...
