Google prepares face unlock fix for Pixel 4 that would require users' eyes to be open

Posted: 06 Mar 2020 09:25 PM PST

Recently spotted by Android Police, a new setting for the Google Pixel 4's face unlock has appeared in the settings, but you can only see it by searching for it. The setting is called "Require eyes to be open" and would only authorize face unlock with the user's eyes open, y'know - as intended. The option is only accessibly by searching for it in the Settings, but the actual toggle is currently disabled. Google must be preparing to release an update that will finally fix the Pixel 4's face unlock to only unlock when it detects the user's eyes are open. "Require eyes to...

Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 gets global stable Android 10 update

Posted: 06 Mar 2020 06:29 PM PST

Today Xiaomi has started rolling out the update to Android 10, with MIUI 11 on top, for the Mi Mix 3 from 2018. We're talking about a global stable version, no "beta stable" shenanigans here, and no Chinese-only stuff. The update is currently out for "other global regions", that is, ones that are not India, Indonesia, Russia, or the EU - as these have their own firmware codes. Still, it's a start, and hopefully we'll see the update make it to all "global" regions (in Xiaomi parlance) soon. If you're lucky enough to have the "other global" ROM on your Mix 3, then expect to see a...

vivo shares revised Android 10 update timeline for its devices

Posted: 06 Mar 2020 04:32 PM PST

It's pretty established that one doesn't buy a vivo smartphone in order to get quick Android OS updates. The company has traditionally been among the slowest to deliver these, and the situation is no different with Android 10. vivo unveiled Funtouch OS 10, the latest iteration of its skin that is based on Android 10, back in December, months after Google initially released the finalized version of the OS. And updates? They've been missing in action so far. Thankfully, that's going to change real soon. After some delays that have been attributed to the coronavirus, the company has...

Samsung Galaxy Xcover Pro disassembly video shows the phone is surprisingly easy to repair

Posted: 06 Mar 2020 02:35 PM PST

The Samsung Galaxy Xcover Pro is a rugged Android smartphone, does that mean it should be easy to repair as well? If you think the answer should be "yes", then check out the disassembly video below. The good news is that the phone has a removable back cover, which allows you to access the battery. There's a rubber gasket covering it to ensure the phone meets the IP68 requirements for water resistance, but the battery can be swapped out without any tools. You'll need a heat gun and a pry tool to get the screen out, everything after that is held down by standard Phillips head...

Huawei's AppGallery will pay developers up to 100% of revenue for the first two years

Posted: 06 Mar 2020 01:01 PM PST

As Huawei is cut off from the Google Play Store for the foreseeable future, the company is heavily dependent on its Huawei AppGallery (this applies to new Honor phones too). The only way to make this viable is to attract app and game developers and the company has a plan - give them all or almost all of the earnings from their software. This is described in the Preferential Policy of the AppGallery Service Agreement. The policy applies for the first 24 months and developers need to join no later than June of this year if they want to participate. The policy is split into two periods....

We do different tests here at GSMArena and we've done a few with the Galaxy S20 Ultra by now. Here's a closer look at the Ultra's three new cameras. And here's our full review.

Oppo Find X2 Pro tops DxOMark chart for camera performance

Posted: 06 Mar 2020 08:17 AM PST

DxoMark has just finished its evaluation of the newly-announced Oppo Find X2 Pro and loved it so much, it gave it joint-first place with the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro. In its testing DxOMark found the Find X2 Pro to have exemplary autofocus, accurate and yet nicely-saturated colors, well-controlled noise levels and good detail. As cons DxOMark notes that HDR isn't always effective in portrait mode shots and a drop off in edge detail in 5x zoom shots. The Oppo Find X2 Pro covers the perfect flagship camera setup nicely with a 48MP f/1.7 main camera with a huge 1/1.4-inch sensor, a 48MP...
