MWC cancellation aftermath: what will happen with the phones we were expecting there Posted: 16 Feb 2020 06:14 AM PST The MWC 2020 has been cancelled - now what? As the biggest exhibition of mobile phones in the world, many new models were slated to be unveiled in Barcelona but companies had to change plans. Everything won't happen at once and it certainly won't happen at the same place. So to help you keep everything organized, we made a list of what new smartphones were expected at the MWC and when and what will happen with them now. Sony Xperia 1.1, 5 Plus - February 24 Sony's range of flagships and mid-rangers will be revealed on schedule - February 24 - through a livestream instead of an event...
Weekly poll: Samsung Galaxy S20, S20+, S20 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip await your approval Posted: 16 Feb 2020 03:01 AM PST Samsung new flagships are here - and they brought a next-generation foldable phone with them. These were subjects to much rumors so we knew more or less what to expect, but now that it's all in the open, we have to ask - what to you think? Let's start at the top. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra packs Samsung's best 108MP image sensor and its first-ever periscope lens (backed by a 48MP sensor). Those two, along with the 40MP selfie camera, can use pixel binning to improve image quality in less than ideal lighting situations. The 108MP cam in particular is the first to do 9-in-1 binning...
Weekly poll results: Poco X2 offers good value for money, but isn't a game-changer Posted: 15 Feb 2020 11:59 PM PST Last week's poll shows that the new Poco X2 can't fill the shoes of the original Poco phone. To be fair, the X2 was not supposed to be a direct sequel to the F1 - the company is reportedly working on other models, including Poco F2 and F2 Lite. But what we have in front of us now is just a rebranded Redmi K30. Some people took issue with that, the "Poco" badge by itself is not worth much. It seems that the reaction to the phone would have been a lot more positive if the Snapdragon 765G chipset was used (like on the K30 5G). The 730G just doesn't have the graphics hardware to take...
Flashback: the Samsung Galaxy S II was a best seller, its variants ushered in the 4G era Posted: 15 Feb 2020 07:59 PM PST This week Samsung unveiled three Galaxy S20 phones - well, five models actually, as each phone has a 4G and a 5G version, except the Ultra, which is 5G-only. If you think that's a lot of models, then you don't remember what happened when the Galaxy S II was unveiled. The Samsung I9100 Galaxy S II was announced nine years ago in February 2011 and released in April that year. It was the second edition of Samsung's new flagship line, packing some of the best tech that the company had to offer, including a 4.3" Super AMOLED Plus screen and Exynos 4210 Dual chipset. The Galaxy S II...
Nokia TA-1212 certified in China, it's a feature phone Posted: 15 Feb 2020 04:33 PM PST Nokia had a few things planned for MWC 2020, but in light of coronavirus developments it will need to reschedule. Not that we were looking forward to that one in particular, but a certain Nokia TA-1212 device that's been in the making for a while was likely going to be part of the roster and now we'll probably never get to see it. Chinese telecom regulator TENAA has a new listing for it, which is the next best thing. Nokia 210 The database entry is missing photographs at this point but has plenty of numbers in it. A handset measuring 123.8x52.4x13.1 and weighing 88g grams looks a...
Samsung Galaxy A71 5G to be available outside the US and China Posted: 15 Feb 2020 01:47 PM PST Samsung announced the Galaxy A71 last December and is reportedly working on its 5G version which will be sold in the US and China. But according to a new report, the Galaxy A71 5G will arrive in other markets as well. Samsung is developing a 5G version of the Galaxy A71 bearing model number SM-A716B, which will be sold outside the US and China. It's currently unclear which markets will get the SM-A716B, but it may arrive in Australia, New Zealand and some European countries. Samsung Galaxy A71 In addition to the A71, Samsung is also working on a 5G version of the A51, which...
Nubia cancels MWC 2020 plans, Red Magic 5G to be announced domestically Posted: 15 Feb 2020 11:10 AM PST MWC 2020 isn't happening, this much is clear by now. Companies dropped out one by one and ultimately the event's governing body canceled it altogether - an unfortunate consequence of the raging novel coronavirus outbreak in China. One of the last remaining participants to announce it will be pulling out of the congress, Nubia has made it official. A statement posted on the company's official Weibo account says they respect the GSM Association's decision and will be postponing the Red Magic 5G's announcement. Nubia statement on exiting MWC 2020 The upcoming smartphone that is...
Oppo Reno3 Pro dummy unit reveals key specs Posted: 15 Feb 2020 08:50 AM PST Oppo is set to launch the Reno3 Pro in India on March 2, but it will be different from the Reno3 Pro announced in China last December. This new variant will sport a dual camera setup on the front, which is a combination of a 44MP snapper joined by a depth sensor unit. Oppo is yet to reveal any other details about the Indian Reno3 Pro, but a couple of images of dummy units that have surfaced reveal the smartphone will sport a quad camera on the back with a 64MP main module as opposed to the 48MP unit on its Chinese counterpart. The leaked image also reveals the Reno3 Pro in India...
