66W fast charging for the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro hinted by MIUI 11 Posted: 29 Jan 2020 08:32 AM PST Xiaomi's latest MIUI 11 software is all ready for the company's flagship, which allowed XDA member kacskrz to dig up some info on the phones. The Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro will support 66W fast charging (11V at 6A), matching what we saw in a certification back in November. This phone bears the model number M2001J1C. There's also the M2001J1E, which may or may not be this year's Explorer edition. This is usually a version of the Pro with a transparent back and the top memory configuration. Note that alleged hands-on photos of the phone and its charger have surfaced and the charger is labeled...

The update was only rolling to beta users but was later expanded to non-beta users as well in a few countries. Now, the Korean tech giant is seeding the Android 10 update for its 2018 Galaxy Note flagship in the US. The new firmware sports version number N960USQU3DTA4 but it might differ depending on your carrier. The update includes the January 2020 Android security... |
Xiaomi's VP explains why under-screen cameras aren't coming anytime soon Posted: 29 Jan 2020 06:57 AM PST With the push for full-screen design on modern smartphones, many solutions have appeared to get rid of or hide the front-facing cameras. The mechanical pop-up cameras, punch-holes and all sorts of cutouts and notches are the stepping stones and many believe having the screen under the display would be the final and most elegant solution. Unfortunately, though, according to Xiaomi's VP, that's not happening anytime soon as there are still major technological challenges to be overcome. Lu Weibing says the whole smartphone industry is working hard on the solution but despite Xiaomi...

The 64MP tele camera of the Galaxy S20 is for 8K video, not 4-in-1 binning Posted: 29 Jan 2020 04:36 AM PST It seems the 64MP S5KGW2 sensor that will be used as a zoom camera in the Galaxy S20 and S20+ will not produce pixel-binned 4-in-1 16MP photos. Instead it will use plain old cropping to achieve zoomed-in shots. Additionally it will offer 8K video support, likely 8K@30fps. We've seen specs sheets that suggest that the Galaxy S20/S20+ will offer 3x optical zoom out of the 64MP S5KGW2 sensor (about which we have no official info) and up to 30x digital zoom. Now it looks like the zoom will be of the lossless variety as it will crop actual pixels from the sensor. The telephoto sensor...

Canalys: Huawei keeps growing in China, as smartphone market shrinks Posted: 29 Jan 2020 01:10 AM PST Canalys released its report on the Chinese smartphone market in Q4 2019. The numbers show a steep decline in actual sales with the total 85.3 million units moved representing a 15% year over year decrease. Total smartphone sales for 2019 came out to 369 million units which is a 7% down on a yearly basis. The main reasoning behind the slumping sales is the slowdown of 4G smartphone sales alongside weaker than anticipated demand for 5G devices. Looking at the per-company basis, Huawei extended its dominance and even managed to grow its shipments to 33.3 million shipments and a 39% market...
