Samsung adds Weldbond as supplier as it widens glue use in smartphones Posted: 21 Dec 2019 06:50 AM PST Samsung has added Weldbond to its list of suppliers as it's gradually adopting the use of more glue in smartphone assembly as opposed to double-sided tape, Korean media reports. Increased use of adhesive glue this year has seen all A and M series handsets abandon double-sided tape. Meanwhile, Chinese company Weldbond's CEO has stated that out of 700 million smartphones manufactured in China this year, some 500 million used Weldbond's products. The advantages of glue include reduced production costs thanks to less processing and the fact that glue can just be applied with dispensers...

5G Galaxy Note10 and Note10+ won't receive stable Android 10 update this year Posted: 20 Dec 2019 11:45 PM PST Samsung's Galaxy Note10 and Note10+ have started receiving the final, stable update to One UI 2.0 based on Android 10 a few days ago. But those are the 4G models. When it comes to the Galaxy Note10 5G and Galaxy Note10+ 5G, the situation is a bit different, as it turns out. These handsets are still stuck on Android 9 Pie, and it looks like that won't change by the end of this year. According to a statement by a Community Manager on Samsung's Korean forums, the official Android 10 release with One UI 2.0 will only reach the 5G Note10 and Note10+ in 2020. The company apologizes for the delay...

Realme XT and C2 get December security patches with new update Posted: 20 Dec 2019 09:01 PM PST Two Realme smartphones have started receiving a new software update in India today. We're talking about the Realme XT and Realme C2, both of which are now getting the December security patches on this occasion. Realme XT It's strange to see Realme being so timely with these, especially for mid-range devices, and fellow BBK stablemate OnePlus lagging behind by a lot. On the other hand, when it comes to big Android updates, the situation is reversed, so we can't help but wonder - can't these two Oppo offshoots learn from each other? Anyway, back to the updates. The XT is getting...
Huawei P40 Pro's periscope telephoto camera to have 10x optical zoom Posted: 20 Dec 2019 08:05 PM PST It's shaping up to be an interesting early 2020 in the mobile world, with the Huawei P40 Pro battling it out with the Samsung Galaxy S11 series. Their looks are apparently going to be incredibly similar, at least on the back. Recently we heard that the S11 will have 5x optical zoom from a periscope telephoto camera, and now famed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who usually covers Apple, has shed some light on what we can expect from the P40 Pro. And that is 10x optical zoom. This is apparently achieved by using both a prism and two mirrors in the camera, compared to just a prism for the P30 Pro's 5x...
Deal: switch to Verizon and get a free iPhone XR plus a $200 prepaid card Posted: 20 Dec 2019 07:04 PM PST Earlier today we told you about a crazy deal that saw Best Buy giving you a Pixel 4 for free if you upgrade an existing line on AT&T. It seems like Verizon was paying attention, because Big Red is now counter-attacking with an incredible deal of its own. If you switch to Verizon from a different carrier, and choose one of the carrier's Unlimited plans, you will receive the iPhone XR for free. That's right, the handset that usually retails for $599.99 is yours for zero dollars. You can buy it either outright, or by choosing the carrier's installment plan. In the latter case, you will...

vivo is launching a new smartphone at MWC 2020 on February 23 Posted: 20 Dec 2019 05:07 PM PST vivo has just sent us an invite to an event it's holding at MWC 2020 in Barcelona on February 23. As you can see from the image we've received, there are absolutely no details about what we should expect to be unveiled at that event... that is, unless you take the big "v" to mean a foldable smartphone of some sort. On the other hand, it could just be a stylized version of the "v" in "vivo", so it's all up for debate. Even with no more details or clues, it's important to note that vivo isn't present at MWC very often with such events, so if it's putting on a show we're expecting it to...
Deal: get a free Pixel 4 and Nest Hub if you're on AT&T and upgrade Posted: 20 Dec 2019 04:02 PM PST In the mobile world there are good deals and then there are amazing deals. This is one of the latter. After all, you can't go lower, price-wise, than free. And that's exactly how much you need to pay for a brand new Google Pixel 4. What's more, you're even getting a bonus Nest Hub smart display. How does that sound? Too good to be true? It isn't, but there are (unsurprisingly) a few things to keep in mind. First, in order to get the free Pixel 4, you need to already be an AT&T customer and upgrade an existing line. Second, an activation fee of up to $40 may apply. Third, you will need to...
Motorola's foldable Razr is slightly delayed because of high demand Posted: 20 Dec 2019 02:08 PM PST Foldable smartphones and delays seem to really go hand in hand. Samsung's Galaxy Fold had some design issues, Huawei's Mate X took many more months to reach the market than initially planned, and now it's Razr's turn. Motorola's reimagined Razr that boasts a foldable screen in that iconic form factor was announced last month, and apparently people really love it. At least that's what the company is blaming for a slight delay in its launch. Here's the full statement circulated by Motorola today: Since its announcement in November, the new motorola razr has received unparalleled...
Galaxy Note10 and Note10+ Android 10 update with One UI 2.0 reaches the US Posted: 20 Dec 2019 11:47 AM PST The update to Samsung's One UI 2.0, based on Android 10, has already started rolling out to Galaxy Note10 and Note10+ units in Europe a few days ago, and now it's finally time for the same thing to happen across the pond. The update is reaching units sold in the US, with Verizon seemingly being the first carrier to flip the distribution switch. Multiple reports are coming in from users of both the Note10 and the Note10+ on Verizon that the over-the-air rollout is ongoing. If you are in the US and bought your Note10 or Note10+ at Verizon, it doesn't hurt to manually check for the...

2020 iPhones to have sensor-shift image stabilization Posted: 20 Dec 2019 08:59 AM PST The 2020 iPhones are expected to bring a significant upgrade over its predecessors in 2019 but the latest rumor sounds more like an under the hood improvement. According to industry observers, the new iPhones would use sensor-shift image stabilization technology instead of the conventional stabilization of the optics. iPhones - and smartphones in general - normally rely on optical image stabilization whereas the upcoming phones are expected to come with sensor-shift stabilization where the sensor itself is moving to counteract shakes instead of the optics. It's unclear for now...
