The Redmi K30 arrived this week and immediately captured the top spot in our trending chart. Its 5G sibling has been in our specs sheet since before it went official, but it actually lost some ground and now occupies fourth. Between those we have midrange lineup of Redmi - the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro giving us yet another week of Xiaomi-dominated top 4. HMD Global introduced a new phone for the emerging markets - the Nokia C1. While its specs are hardly exciting its $59 price certainly is and it propelled it to fifth place. Weekly poll results: the Motorola One Hyper will do fine in the right markets

Posted: 15 Dec 2019 12:00 AM PST

It seems that Motorola has very carefully picked the launch markets for the Moto One Hyper - the US, Brazil and (soon) the UK. Spotty support for LTE bands along with import fees keeps the competitive Chinese brands out of those markets, which changes the value-for-money equation. The Hyper costs $400 - the same as a Pixel 3a (sans discounts). However, you're getting a larger screen (by about 30%), a newer chipset (Snapdragon 675 vs. 670), more storage out of the box and a microSD card slot to boot. The battery is larger (4,000mAh vs. 3,000mAh) and charges much faster (45W vs....

This makes it the perfect time to look at the life of the Nokia Lumia 800 - the first Windows Phone handset from the Finns. We mentioned that the first Lumias reused the N9 polycarbonate body, but the truth runs deeper than that - the "Sea Ray" phone was originally a CDMA version of the Nokia N9 intended for Verizon and Sprint. Nokia was exploring a collaboration with Qualcomm (and other chipset makers) as it thought having wide choice of suppliers will give it leverage during negotiations. Plans...

The Google Pixel 4 earns 5th position in DxOMark's audio ranking

Posted: 14 Dec 2019 03:00 PM PST

After getting a comprehensive review of the camera, the Google Pixel 4 now has a thorough assessment of its audio recording and playback capabilities. And it earns a well-deserved 5th position in DxOMark's audio ranking list. The overall score is 68 and it's just a few points behind the Asus ROG Phone II and the Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max. It had decent scores in the audio playback tests with impressive bass reproduction for such a small device. However, the reviewers think it's still not on par with the best-in-class devices in terms of fullness and bass. Recording capabilities earned...

Vivo's product manager in China released a set of photos teasing the camera capabilities of the upcoming X30 Pro smartphone, which is said to feature a 64MP main camera and 13MP periscope camera capable of 60x hybrid zoom. The photos are taken in Beijing and to be honest, they do seem pretty impressive. At first, we found it hard to find the building in the first picture and the last one that's been zoomed doesn't look bad for a 60x zoom either. And keep in mind that the photos have gone through some compression when uploaded on Weibo. vivo X30's Super Telephoto feature This...
