Huawei Mate 30 Pro vs. P30 Pro camera comparison

Posted: 06 Oct 2019 09:00 AM PDT

Huawei Mate 30 Pro vs. P30 Pro The Mate 30 Pro's camera setup differs significantly from the P30 Pro's - the main module may be the same, but the other two are different. The Mate's ultra-wide has a substantially larger sensor and slightly narrower field of view, while the telephoto unit of the new phone is the 3x one found in the P30, and not the P30 Pro's 5x periscope. An inevitable shootout ensued. Main camera comparison (Daylight) The main camera's hardware is supposedly the same, yet the resulting images aren't. The Mate 30 Pro captures finer detail and its pictures...

Weekly poll: did Microsoft outsmart Android makers with the Surface Duo?

Posted: 06 Oct 2019 06:00 AM PDT

We have to give it to Microsoft - what seemed like a regular event about laptops set the Internet abuzz about dual screen devices. The Surface Duo in particular got people excited about the mix of Microsoft's hardware aesthetic combined with Androids mobile app ecosystem. The Surface Duo will have two 5.6" screens with a hinge between them. This isn't a foldable display and that's a good thing as it avoids all the issues plaguing their fragile screens. And it can fold 360°, which offers the best of both worlds - you can close it to keep the screens safe, open it to use both screens or flip...

vivo NEX 3 in for review

Posted: 06 Oct 2019 03:00 AM PDT

The vivo NEX 3 beat the Huawei Mate 30 Pro by some three days to be the first smartphone announced with a waterfall display. We got to review the Mate first, but we're catching up. It's now the NEX' turn which we have here in 5G trim - same one we got to handle at the launch event. Not only was the vivo waterfall display first, but it's also missing a notch - we'll always prefer uninterrupted displays with no cutouts over notched ones, so the NEX has this going for it over the Mate. The NEX 3 has its selfie camera tucked away in a motorized pop-up module, where vivo has also fitted...

Realme Buds Wireless review

Posted: 05 Oct 2019 11:00 PM PDT

When Realme XT was introduced, it had another new product keeping it company on the stage. It was the Realme Buds Wireless - the first Bluetooth headset by the company. They were introduced with an impressively low price tag of INR1,599, which translates to less than $25 ($22.54, to be exact). We got our hands on the new gadget, charged it, paired it and went into full beast mode to test its real-life performance. One might think the Realme Buds Wireless are just a rebranded Oppo Enco headset or the OnePlus Bullets with a new color scheme, but it is a completely different device and...

Weekly poll results: OnePlus 7T gets a warm welcome, but people are curious about the 7T Pro

Posted: 05 Oct 2019 07:00 PM PDT

The OnePlus 7T got a warm welcome in last week's poll, but it seems that many will wait until the OnePlus 7T Pro is unveiled before making a final decision. While Pete Lau and Carl Pei were pretty active in tweeting details about the 7T before the launch event, the co-founders have been pretty quiet about the 7T Pro. Anyway, there was an argument in the comments about microSD cards. OnePlus never offered expandable memory and that's fine for many - especially now that internal storage uses UFS 3.0, which is significantly faster than even the top microSD cards. Others, however, still want...

Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite in for review

Posted: 05 Oct 2019 02:59 PM PDT

Xiaomi introduced the camera-centric CC9 lineup back in July as part of the Mi family. Two of the phones escaped China under a different name - the Mi CC9e is called Mi A3 and was moved to the Android One program for its global debut, while the Mi CC9 was renamed to Mi 9 Lite and that's what we have in our hands today. Here's what impressed us about the Snapdragon 710-powered phone that goes for €319 in Europe. Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite The only difference between Mi CC9 and Mi 9 Lite is the software - unlike in China, the global version has Google services, but it still runs on...

Xiaomi Mi Band 5 to come with NFC support outside China

Posted: 05 Oct 2019 11:40 AM PDT

The Xiaomi Mi Band 4, launched in China back in June, comes with NFC and а microphone. However, its global variant called Mi Smart Band 4 doesn't have either of those features. In a new development, if the latest report is to be believed, we will see the Mi Band 5 come with NFC outside China. It's unclear if the global version of the Mi Band 5 will have a built-in mic or not, but the report says that it will be more advanced and durable than previous models. Mi Smart Band 4 Details are scarce about the next-gen wearable right now and there's no word from Xiaomi about its...

Disney will no longer accept Netflix ads on its entertainment TV channels

Posted: 05 Oct 2019 09:50 AM PDT

Disney is banning Netflix ads on its entertainment TV networks, aiming to make it harder on the streaming giant as the company is preparing to launch its own streaming service Disney+. Disney owned ESPN will still accept Netflix ads. Out of a total advertising budget of $1.8 billion last year, Netflix spent $99.2 million on TV ads, 13% of them going to entertainment channels part of the Disney group. Apparently, Disney is targetting Netflix in particular, as the move won't affect Amazon, Apple or Comcast, all of which have streaming services of their own. Then again, Disney+...

Apple initiates service program for iPhone 6s and 6s Plus units that wouldn't power on

Posted: 05 Oct 2019 08:20 AM PDT

Apple is starting a service program to repair iPhone 6s and 6s Plus units that may refuse to power on due to a component that could potentially fail. Apple doesn't disclose which exactly component is prone to failure, nor does it detail what the service operations are going to be. The affected devices fall within a limited serial number range and were manufactured between October 2018 and August 2019. There's a serial number checker on the program's web page, and should you be among the unlucky ones you have three possible courses of action - find an Apple Authorized Service...
