Pixel 4's screen scales down to 60Hz when brightness is set below 75% Posted: 23 Oct 2019 08:44 AM PDT One of the biggest additions to Google's new Pixel 4 line is the new 90Hz refresh rate screen. This is a key trend in 2019 flagship phones but now it seems that both Pixel 4 and 4 XL automatically switch to 60Hz when their brightness is set to lower than 75%. The discovery was made by a group of Reddit users and has since been confirmed by many early adopters. Apparently, there is a workaround to this issue through the developer setting where you can lock the 90Hz refresh rate in all scenarios. In addition, Twitter user Jeff Springer noticed that the 90Hz mode stays locked at lower... |
OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren Edition announced, is exclusive to T-Mobile USA Posted: 23 Oct 2019 08:07 AM PDT Surprise! The OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren Edition is the extra long name of the company's second 5G phone. However, it's not the missing 5G version of the 7T Pro. At least not for anyone not on T-Mobile US as this is an exclusive for the North American carrier. There's no word on pricing yet or when the phone will be released. This is also the only way to get the 7T Pro in the US, by the way. The OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren Edition (boy, this gets tiring) is essentially the same hardware as the 4G version of McLaren Edition other than the new modem. This means that compared to the OnePlus 7... |
Huawei launches Mate X in China, shipments begin on November 15 Posted: 23 Oct 2019 07:16 AM PDT Huawei is having an eventful day - the company launched the 5G-enabled Mate 30 lineup, celebrated 200 million sales globally, and now has finally started the sales of its first foldable phone - the Mate X. The smartphone is already listed at Vmall, Huawei's official online store, for the CNY16,999 (that's about $2,400 or 2,150). The Huawei Mate X arrives with Kirin 980 chipset, as initially announced - rumors that the company was going to upgrade it to the Kirin 990 turned out false. At least it will ship with an integrated Balong 5000 modem for 5G speeds. Other specs include... |
Samsung teases new Exynos chipset, promises cutting-edge processor Posted: 23 Oct 2019 06:31 AM PDT Samsung tweeted a teaser for the next Exynos chipset. It didn't reveal too much, but those "new frontier" and "cutting-edge processor" labels hint at a new flagship chip. Earlier this year, Samsung Foundry completed development of 5nm EUV chips, which are expected in 2020. According to the company, those promise 25% better silicone density, 20% lower power consumption or 10% higher performance at the same power draw. The next #Exynos is coming. The mobile intelligence will take another leap forward. #NextGenPower pic.twitter.com/giCF0wPH8C Samsung Exynos (@SamsungExynos) October 22,... |
Huawei sells 200 million smartphones in 2019, two months faster than 2018 Posted: 23 Oct 2019 05:42 AM PDT Huawei might have had a tough year and uncertain future ahead, but the company today reported some good news - it sold 200 million smartphones since the beginning of 2019. The impressive milestone was reached 64 days faster than in 2018, despite being a hostage in the negotiations between the United States and China. The Chinese company already reported that the P30 lineup, announced in March, and the Mate 20 series that debuted last year have been outsold their predecessors. Another reason the 200 million mark shouldn't be a surprise is how steady Huawei is on the top position... |

We'll have to wait until more details surface. Via |

Case in point: both the Realme 1 and the Realme U1 are now receiving a new software update, that brings them Dark Mode as well as the latest security fixes. Both phones will be on the October 1, 2019 security patch level after you apply the update. They both get the same changelog, except for the fact that the U1 will also add a "partial scene camera effect... |
LG G8X ThinQ lands in the US on November 1 along with the Dual Screen accessory Posted: 22 Oct 2019 08:19 PM PDT LG heard you like having extra screen real estate on your phone, so back at IFA last month it unveiled the G8X with the Dual Screen accessory. This Korean company definitely seems to think you'll settle for such a setup instead of going for a phone that has a foldable screen, and it will soon have the chance to prove that it's right. That's because the LG G8X and LG Dual Screen are going on sale in the US starting on November 1. Major wireless providers and national retailers will offer them, including Amazon, AT&T, and Sprint. Pre-orders begin on Friday, October 25. The price for an... |
Huawei doesn't want to replace Android, just Google Mobile Services Posted: 22 Oct 2019 07:24 PM PDT Back when Huawei introduced its HarmonyOS operating system, speculations quickly arose that future phones will chose that over Android. Since then we've seen the debut of the Mate 30 series which still ships with an AOSP build of Android and is notably lacking Google Mobile Services (GMS). Huawei's President of Global Media and Communications, Joy Tan confirmed that the company will continue to rely on Android for its phones in the near future as switching to a different OS would not only require several years of work but would also be detrimental for consumer confidence. With so many... |

MIUI 11 brings an overhauled UI and plenty of changes under the hood, but it's still based on Android 9. The OTA update is 766MB big and also carries the September 2019 security patch. A more simplified UI awaits along with Always-on display improvements. You might need to wait a couple of days before the update shows up on your phone. Also, we suspect that owners of the global variant, Mi 9T, of the phone should expect the new software as well. The full... |

Rugged Doogee S95 Pro debuts with Helio P90, 48MP camera and 5,150 mAh battery Posted: 22 Oct 2019 02:29 PM PDT Doogee is not among the big names in the smartphone industry but every once in a while it manages to show an exciting product. Its latest phone is called S95 Pro and brings the rather hard to come by mix of a rugged body and upper midrange specs. The phone is protected against drops and complies with the IP68 and IP69K standards against water and dust. It can stay under 3m of water for 4 hours. The handset is also compliant with the MIL-STD-810G military standard. Normally that would require a very thick phone, but the 13.8mm thickness of the S95 Pro sounds decent if not great. The 285g... |
