Pixel 4 can't record 4K video at 60fps as Google thinks you don't need it Posted: 21 Oct 2019 07:12 AM PDT The Pixel 4 and its larger sibling, the Pixel 4 XL, can't record 4K video at 60fps. Google's official Twitter account posted an explanation of why that mode was left out. The last sentence in particular stings. The two phones come with 64GB of base storage as default - and part of that is reserved for the OS and RAM. The only upgrade option is 128GB, which is where many mid-rangers start. And it goes without saying that there's no memory card slot. Plus, Google stopped offering free original quality storage for photos and videos (even the cheaper Pixel 3a phones had it). Hi, Pixel 4... |

Xiaomi plans to launch over 10 phones with 5G in 2020 Posted: 21 Oct 2019 05:51 AM PDT Xiaomi has a bold plan of launching nearly a dozen new smartphones with 5G next year. The devices won't be all flagships, but midrangers as well, as the company fears 4G smartphones won't be competitive come 2020. Lei Jun, the Xiaomi CEO, revealed the 2020 plans at the World Internet Conference in Wuzhen, China, where he also urged telecoms to hurry up with their 5G expansion. "People in the industry fear that next year 4G models won't sell", Lei said, quoted by Reuters. Xiaomi's share in China has been steadily falling lately. Live HDR+ and Dual Exposure features not coming to older Pixels Posted: 21 Oct 2019 04:29 AM PDT Two cool new features of the Pixel 4 camera will not be ported back to older Pixel phones - Live HDR+ and Dual Exposure Controls. Those can only run on the new hardware, so the Pixel 3, 3a and others are out of luck. To be fair, few phones are fast enough to do real-time HDR preview. The Pixel 4 and 4 XL technically aren't either, what you see on their viewfinders is an approximation of the final result. The effects of the Dual Exposure sliders are previewed in real time so they aren't supported on older models either. Realize your artistic vision by adjusting brightness and shadows... |

Later on it became apparent that the issue was also replicated on the Galaxy S10+ and Note10 series which brought more attention to the problem. Samsung issued an official statement on the matter claiming that "certain silicone screen protectors" were causing the issue and that users should stop using these protectors and re-register their fingerprints without them. In a new development, a... |

Flashback: the Nexus One fell victim to patents, component shortages and lack of advertising Posted: 20 Oct 2019 04:00 PM PDT The first-ever Android phone was a collaboration between Google, HTC and T-Mobile. At first, Google avoided building own-branded devices so as not to spook phone makers - if they thought that Google's own Androids will get special treatment, they might not support the fledgling OS. This changed in early January 2010 when Google unveiled the Nexus One. HTC once again acted as the ODM and created one of the most advanced Android phones yet. The 3.7" AMOLED display seemed impressive, the original Snapdragon chipset with a 1GHz Scorpion core was blazing fast for its day and people loved the... |

Realme also has reasons to be proud as its X2 Pro flagship placed on the podium, ahead of the best seller that is the Galaxy A50. And the X2 Pro is not even the only phone by the young company in the top 10 with the 5 Pro getting... |
