Huawei Mate 30 and Mate X will ship without the Play Store and all other Google apps Posted: 06 Sep 2019 06:30 PM PDT Last month a disturbing report made the rounds, claiming that the upcoming Huawei Mate 30 family would launch without any Google apps or services on board, and today a new source basically confirms this, adding another device to the unfortunate list. According to The Nikkei Asian Review, Huawei will not be able to ship either the Mate 30/Mate 30 Pro, or the Mate X with any Google apps and services. That means no Google Play Store, or pre-installed Chrome, Gmail, YouTube, Maps, and so on. The loss of the app store is definitely the biggest blow, along with the Google Play Services suite, on... |

Qualcomm confirms 5G capable 6 and 7 series Snapdragon chipsets coming next year Posted: 06 Sep 2019 10:30 AM PDT While this year brought the first steps into the world of 5G, 2020 will be the year of large-scale 5G expansion. Currently, if you have access to a 5G network the choice of devices that support it are pretty limited and all these phones come with a premium price tag. One way which Qualcomm will tackle this issue next year is by introducing 6 and 7 series Snapdragon SoCs with integrated 5G modems. The Snapdragon 8 Series is already powering the first wave of 5G capable phones and will continue to do so in the flagship sector next year but the chipmaker wants to expand its 5G presence in... |
Nokia 9 PureView's unique penta-camera gets low score from DxOMark Posted: 06 Sep 2019 09:30 AM PDT The Nokia 9 PureView launched earlier this year with a unique camera - a 5 module setup by Light, which relies on computational photography to boost image quality beyond what's possible with a single camera. That was the promise anyway, the actual results were disappointing - save for the bokeh rendering, which was much better than what the iPhone XS could deliver. DxOMark just published its review of the PureView camera and the results aren't good - the overall score of 85 matches the three year old iPhone 7 and barely edges out the Nokia 8 Sirocco. For still shots, some combination of... |

An official re-release is yet to happen but Samsung took the opportunity to showcase the phone before being launched officially. We had some time to play around with the Fold and examine what has changed over the previous iteration. First and foremost, the screen protector keeping the foldable 7.3-inch flexible AMOLED is now extended past the bezels so that you don't attempt to remove it as some reviewers did. It would also prevent dust and air bubbles to build up along the edges. It... |
