Noted YouTuber Zack Nelson aka JerryRigEverything got hold of a unit and performed his signature durability test to see if the phone can take some abuse. Starting with the screen durability test, the K20 Pro's Gorilla Glass 5 display scratches at a level 6 on the Mohs hardness scale just like most other phones. Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL spotted in Geekbench result with just 4GB of RAM Posted: 06 Sep 2019 06:30 AM PDT Results from the Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL have been found in Geekbench. They run Android 10 on Snapdragon 855 chipsets, as expected. What's not expected is the RAM capacity - 4GB. The Pixel 4 duo was supposed to make the jump to 6GB. For what it's worth, benchmarks are not the most reliable source. There was a Geekbench result from the Pixel 3a with 6GB of RAM, but that didn't pan out. Maybe it was a prototype, maybe Geekbench read the capacity wrong. Geekbench results: Pixel 4 Pixel 4 XL Anyway, most makers tend to tie RAM and storage capacity together and the Pixel 4... |

Kirin 990 unveiled, built on the 7nm+ process and features integrated 5G modem Posted: 06 Sep 2019 03:12 AM PDT As per tradition, Huawei announced its next-generation mobile SoC called HiSilicon Kirin 990. It's still built on the 7nm process but slightly improved for better efficiency. The chipset uses the brand new 7nm FinFET Plus EUV node by TSMC and it's important to note that Apple's upcoming A13 chip uses the same manufacturing process. Huawei is boasting many firsts in its flagship mobile SoC. Even though Samsung already announced its integrated 5G-capable SoC, the Exynos 980, the first one on the market is expected to be Huawei's Kirin 990. Up until now, the 5G-capable chipsets were all... |

Live images of Motorola's pop-up camera smartphone surface Posted: 05 Sep 2019 10:41 PM PDT Motorola has launched punch-hole display smartphones like the One Vision and One Action. But we know that the company is working on a smartphone with a notchless screen. Last week, we saw a couple of renders of an unknown Motorola smartphone with a notchless display, and today we are looking at the live images of what's probably the same device. One of the photos confirms that the smartphone will have a pop-up camera elevating from the right side of the top bezel. And the other image, showing off small bezels on the top and the sides, tells us that the smartphone will run Motorola's... |

And now this seems to have been confirmed by a comment in the Android 10 source code. The ever-enterprising folks over at XDA Developers dug through the source of the newest Android release, which Google made public the other day, and found several intriguing commits relating to display refresh rate. One of these describes content-based fps detection, while another describes the implementation of an overlay that will show when the device is running at 60Hz vs... |
Samsung cancels all Galaxy Fold pre-orders in the US ahead of re-release Posted: 05 Sep 2019 05:00 PM PDT Earlier today Samsung officially re-announced the Galaxy Fold, after having spent months fixing the issues that the original batch of reviews uncovered. Also today, Samsung decided to cancel all Galaxy Fold pre-orders in the US. You're not reading that wrong, the company hasn't started pre-orders, it canceled them. We're talking about the pre-orders that used to be available earlier this year, following the Fold's initial announcement, before all the problems came to light. The company has sent people who had pre-orders an email about the move, in which it explains that it is taking... |
The LG G8X ThinQ brings a 32MP selfie cam, updated DualScreen Posted: 05 Sep 2019 03:04 PM PDT LG just unveiled the G8X ThinQ smartphone, a follow-up if not a direct replacement for the G8. To go with it, there's a new DualScreen accessory case/extra display - who needs folding phones when you can leave half of it at home. The G8X comes with a larger display than the G8, matching the V50's 6.4-inch diagonal. It's lower-res than either of the current models, however, at 2340x1080px as opposed to their 3040x1040px. Perhaps it has something to do with market segmentation in its home country - the G8X will be known as the V50S in South Korea. The G8X still uses an OLED panel,... |

Sony posts official Xperia 5 promo videos, including hands-on and a Fortnite stream Posted: 05 Sep 2019 02:00 PM PDT The Sony Xperia 5 is a rare compact flagship - while the 6.1" screen diagonal sounds large, the 21:9 aspect ratio keeps the phone slender. It's 2mm narrower than a Galaxy S10e, for example, and 3mm narrower than an iPhone XS, but has more screen surface area than both. And it has one more camera than either of them - the triple camera setup is lifted directly from the Xperia 1 setup (it's wide + ultra wide + tele). It includes the exclusive Sony Alpha and Eye AF tech. More Sony trademarks crop up, including the CineAlta-powered Cinema Pro app, which can shoot 4K HDR video at 24fps. The... |

Meet the new Moto E6 Plus. The device comes with a 6.1-inch 720x1560 19.5:9 IPS touchscreen, and the MediaTek Helio P22 SoC at the helm. This is aided by 2 or 4GB of RAM, and you get 32 or 64GB of expandable storage, depending on the model you choose. On the rear there's a 13 MP f/2.0 main camera with 1.12um pixel size, alongside a 2 MP depth sensor and an LED flash. Selfies are handled by an 8 MP f/2.0 snapper with 1.12um pixels that sits... |
Nokia 7.2 and 6.2 highlights shown in first promo videos, 2720 Flip and 800 Tough too Posted: 05 Sep 2019 01:00 PM PDT HMD Global brought more phones than most IFA 2019 exhibitors - a total of five, including two Android One smartphones, two KaiOS phones and a feature phone. The Nokia 7.2 is the leader of the pack. It's the first Nokia with a triple camera and the first with a 48MP sensor available in the West (only the China-only X71 came before it). That's several more megapixels than the 808 PureView had, not to mention several more cameras. The Nokia 6.2 is very nearly the same phone, complete with HMD's polymer composite build that's tougher than polycarbonate, but lighter than aluminum. The... |
Motorola One Zoom unveiled with 48MP and 3x tele camera, 6.4" OLED screen Posted: 05 Sep 2019 11:52 AM PDT The new Motorola One Zoom is the best phone in Moto's current lineup. It has a 6.4" OLED display with 1080p+ resolution and under display fingerprint and it is powered by a Snapdragon 675 chipset, just like the Moto Z4. As you can tell from the name, however, the camera got an upgrade - or three. The main shooter is still based on a 48MP sensor (0.8µm) with a bright f/1.7 lens and optical image stabilization (OIS). The selfie camera is the same as well, a 25MP shooter with 0.9µm pixels. Both it and the rear cam feature Quad Pixel technology for improved low-light... |
