Sony Xperia 2 leaked renders show the phone from multiple angles

Posted: 31 Aug 2019 06:50 AM PDT

Images of the Sony Xperia 2, expected to go official at IFA next week, surfaced yesterday giving us a quick glimpse of the device. And today, a full set of official-looking press renders of the handset surfaced, showing the phone from multiple angles, in several colors too. The Xperia 2 looks similar to the Xperia 1, except for the triple camera setup at the back which is now placed in the top-left corner of the device, as opposed to being along the central axis. On the left side of the Xperia 2 is the SIM card slot, and on the right side is the fingerprint scanner flanked by the...

Videos in Google Play Store listings will autoplay starting next month

Posted: 31 Aug 2019 05:20 AM PDT

The Google Play Store recently got a blindingly white redesign, and starting next month, you may find it a bit more annoying. Why? Because it will start playing promo videos in the app listings automatically. Google says the videos in the app listings will be played automatically "to help more users discover your content at a glance". However, this decision may not go well with some app developers as the Internet search giant has said that developers will have to disable monetization in these videos which are pulled from YouTube. The developers have time until October 31, 2019 to...

Posted: 31 Aug 2019 02:20 AM PDT

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey's own Twitter account was hacked yesterday, allowing the perpetrators to post a total of 17 offensive tweets. The tweets were up for no more than 10 minutes and a little over an hour after the issue was noticed the account was already secure. In a statement, the Company points the finger at the carrier, assuring Twitter systems have not been compromised. The phone number associated with the account was compromised due to a security oversight by the mobile provider. This allowed an unauthorized person to compose and send tweets via text message from the phone number....

Posted: 31 Aug 2019 12:15 AM PDT

The Motorola One Zoom has leaked a few times before so we already know what it will look like. We also know a few of its specifications, but the latest leak completes the picture, leaving very little to the imagination. The One Zoom will be powered by the Snapdragon 675 SoC paired with 4GB RAM. It will have 128GB storage and run Android Pie out of the box. But, do note that it won't be a part of the Android One program and will come with deep Alexa integration. iPhone 11 family to unsurprisingly become available on September 20

Posted: 30 Aug 2019 09:00 PM PDT

Apple is unveiling the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max at a special event on September 10. But that's the announcement. You may be wondering exactly when you'll be able to purchase one of the new devices. Well, wonder no more. According to a source working at a major US carrier, pre-orders for the trio are set to start on September 13. That's the Friday after the announcement, and it comes as no surprise that Apple would start taking pre-orders then - because it's been doing the same thing for years. Exactly as unsurprising is the rumored release date of the three...

Android 10's September 3 release date confirmed by Canadian carrier

Posted: 30 Aug 2019 07:30 PM PDT

A few days ago a couple of chats with Google support reps surfaced telling us to expect the official release of Android 10 to Pixels to happen on September 3. And today a slip-up by Canadian carrier Rogers has seemingly confirmed the rollout's date. For a short while, Rogers' public OS upgrade schedule included the lines you can see screenshotted below. Apparently this carrier didn't get the memo of Android 10 being the official name of the release formerly known as Android Q, but other than that, it's all there, black on white. Realizing the mistake of making such information...

iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max have all their specs seemingly leaked

Posted: 30 Aug 2019 06:00 PM PDT

After many months of rumors, purported leaks, and speculation, Apple will finally make the new trio of iPhones official on September 10. And today out of China comes a new report that seems to leak all of the new devices' specs. Before we go into the actual information, don't forget to take all of this with a healthy serving of salt - it's just an unconfirmed rumor at this point. That said, a lot of the stuff in it lines up with what we've heard in the past, and the rest is at least plausible. iPhone 11 This is the successor to the iPhone XR, and hence Apple's entry-level option for...

Huawei outs MediaPad M6 Turbo tablet with more RAM

Posted: 30 Aug 2019 04:30 PM PDT

Huawei has added a new version of the MediaPad M6 tablet today, meant for the Chinese market - at least for now. This is the MediaPad M6 Turbo, which comes with 2GB more RAM, taking the memory amount up to 6GB. It's unclear why the company would launch such a high-end device (it's powered by the Kirin 980 SoC like the P30 Pro and Mate 20 Pro) with only 4GB of RAM, but that's exactly what happened back in June. And now Huawei is rectifying that mistake, while also adding a cool new word to the tablet's name. The M6 Turbo also has two color versions that are much more exciting than the...

Samsung Galaxy Note10 in for review, unboxing and key features

Posted: 30 Aug 2019 02:59 PM PDT

We finally got the Samsung Galaxy Note10 in the office and we need to talk about it. But first - here's an unboxing and key features video to get you in the mood. This is the smaller, 6.3-inch Galaxy Note10, and if you're looking at it on a paper (or digital) specs sheet next to the gargantuan 6.8-inch Galaxy Note10+, it may appear a bit of a lackluster phone. So you shouldn't. You should go out to a store and hold it in your hands, trust us. For all intents and purposes this is the compact Galaxy Note a niche group of people have always dreamed of and a large group of Galaxy Note...

Samsung Galaxy A90 5G leaks in official renders

Posted: 30 Aug 2019 01:45 PM PDT

Samsung has long been rumored to out a Galaxy A90 at some point this year, to top off the A family that so far goes only up to A80. The phone will have 5G support, and will be the highest-end Galaxy A ever. At the same time it should be Samsung's most affordable 5G handset yet. Today in Korea an official-looking promo slide has been leaked, apparently originating on Samsung's own website, showing the device in all its glory (although the renders are pretty low-res). This has since been taken down. The image tells us that the A90 won't employ a rotating mechanism that makes the rear cameras...

OnePlus 7T Pro leaks in CAD-based renders, McLaren Edition too

Posted: 30 Aug 2019 12:11 PM PDT

Over the past few weeks chatter has been growing about OnePlus supposedly holding an event in India on September 26, when it's apparently going to unveil the OnePlus TV alongside the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro. Yesterday specs for the 7T got outed, and based on those, that model is shaping up to be quite a substantial upgrade compared to the OnePlus 7 - with a revamped rear camera system and a 90Hz higher-res screen. So that leaves the OnePlus 7T Pro, and by the way, here it is in all its glory in a bunch of newly leaked CAD-based renders. Yes, a McLaren Edition of the 7T Pro is in...

Samsung Galaxy Note10+ handily defeats Apple iPhone XS Max in a speed test

Posted: 30 Aug 2019 11:00 AM PDT

The Samsung Galaxy Note10+ beat the Apple iPhone XS Max in the PhoneBuff speed test by a whole 30 seconds. If you're familiar with the PhoneBuff-styled speed test, you know this is a big deal. And if you're not familiar, it uses an AI-trained robot to simulate the same actions on both phones, opening a bunch of apps and performing tasks for one lap, and then re-opening all of the apps to see if the phone has kept them in the RAM. Interestingly the Galaxy Note10+ was faster to open most of the games and didn't fall behind the iPhone XS Max in any of the tasks. And on the second lap it...

Redmi Note 8 Pro teardown shows a heat pipe for the Helio G90T chipset

Posted: 30 Aug 2019 10:00 AM PDT

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro is not just the first phone with a 64MP camera, it's Xiaomi's first quad camera phone. There's more - this is the first phone to use MediaTek's gaming-focused Helio G90T chipset. Official teardown images offer a close look at all those components. The G90T chipset isn't left to fend for itself, it has a copper heat pipe that connects it to the aluminum chassis of the phone to spread out the heat. You can also see the LPDDR4x RAM stacked on top of the UFS 2.1 storage. There are a few more MediaTek chipsets here, but charging is handled by a Qualcomm chip that...
