Top 10 trending phones of week 32 Posted: 11 Aug 2019 08:00 AM PDT Samsung already had a strong hold on our trending chart last week, but the launch of the Galaxy Note10 lineup led to an unprecedented dominance. The Korean company makes seven of the 10 most interesting phones of the past week, including all of the top 5. All four of the Galaxy Note10 versions made the chart, which is a rarity on its own - typically 5G versions get little exposure. The new more compact Galaxy Note10 claimed first, followed by the LTE and 5G versions of the Note10+. Long standing leaders Galaxy A50 and Galaxy A70 had to settle for fourth and fifth this time... |
Flashback: Samsung Galaxy Note - the phablet that changed it all Posted: 11 Aug 2019 05:00 AM PDT Samsung published a timeline of its Galaxy Note phones counting up to number 10, but we wanted to focus more on the original - the Samsung Galaxy Note. It made its debut at IFA in late 2011 and is the original "phablet". There have been many large phones since, the Note's real trademark feature is the S Pen. Samsung Galaxy Note Many thought that Samsung has gone mad - the phone was entirely too large and styluses are outdated, they were saying. And they were partially right, styluses were needed for the small resistive screens that suffered from low sensitivity. However,... |
Weekly poll: is the Samsung Galaxy Note10 duo a hit or a miss? Posted: 11 Aug 2019 02:00 AM PDT This week Samsung unveiled its latest Galaxy Note models and we got to spend some quality time with them - check out our review. But is this an S6 or an S8 moment? As you probably remember, the Galaxy S6 dropped the microSD card slot and sealed in the battery. And people were quite upset about it. The S7 brought back the card slot and added water resistance in lieu of a removable battery. With a few more tweaks, the Galaxy S8 was a hit - one of Samsung's most loved designs. So, let's recap the changes to the Note10 generation. It's split into two phones - the Galaxy Note10+, which... |
Realme 64MP quad camera setup hands-on Posted: 10 Aug 2019 10:00 PM PDT Earlier this week Realme showcased its 64MP quad camera technology at a Camera Innovation Event in New Delhi, India. This multi-camera system uses a 64MP Samsung ISOCELL Bright GW1 unit as the primary sensor which is joined by an ultrawide angle, super macro, and portrait modules. We were present at the event and got our hands on a prototype. The units were all covered with special cases to conceal their design so all we got were some limited info on the camera setup. We couldn't transfer the samples either, only checking them out on the screen on the phone, so we weren't able to perform... |
Weekly poll results: the Black Shark 2 Pro is not a top scorer for Xiaomi Posted: 10 Aug 2019 07:00 PM PDT Xiaomi's latest gaming phone, the Black Shark 2 Pro, didn't score enough points for a win. The results from last week's poll show that people are not impressed by the upgrades over the regular Black Shark 2. They sounded pretty good on paper - this is one of the more affordable gaming phones and yet it's among the first handsets to sport the faster UFS 3.0 storage, in addition to the Snapdragon 855+ chipset (which boosts GPU performance). While not related to gaming, the Pro camera also got upgraded too - it gained 60fps mode when recording in 2160p resolution, also 1,920fps slow motion... |
Check out our video on Gaming phones vs mainstream flagships Posted: 10 Aug 2019 04:00 PM PDT Smartphone gaming's golden age is upon us and it has brought a number of handsets that claim to be specifically crafted for and targeted at gamers. However, unlike the gaming PCs these gaming phones have the exact same internals as their mainstream counterparts and it got us wondering if they really offer anything more than a flashy design and pompous names. You might just find some of our observations surprising. And just in case the video doesn't quite scratch your itch, there is a more in-depth analysis on the matter in our written analysis. Definitely share your thoughts in... |
The Honor Vision smart TV is now official and the first device to run Harmony OS Posted: 10 Aug 2019 02:00 PM PDT Honor's new TV is packed to the brim with impressive hardware and does, indeed, feel more like a smartphone in many ways. It's a shift in mentality that really seems beneficial for the smart TV space. At least on paper, that is. Starting off with the basics, the Honor Vision, both vanilla and Pro, features a 55-inch diagonal, 4K, IPS panel with 400 nits peak brightness, 178° viewing angles, 87% NTSC coverage and TUV Rheinland certification for blue light protection. It is housed within a very thin (as little as 6.9mm) metal frame, making for an impressive 94% screen to body... |
A Samsung Galaxy M90 could be in the works Posted: 10 Aug 2019 11:30 AM PDT Premium-budget? That would probably be the best possible way to describe the alleged Galaxy M90. There is hardly any info on the handset yet and this is the first time we are even hearing of an "M" device so high in the double digits. Plus, the scoop comes from one of the lesser-known Twitter leaksters, so, a grain of salt before we continue. One more thing: Galaxy M90 is expected to be exactly like the upcoming Galaxy A90! That's kind of good, it would mean Samsung is interested to launch a good spec mid range phone at decent pricing. Ishan Agarwal (@ishanagarwal24) August 10, 2019... |
Apple could use "Pro" moniker for the iPhone 11 Posted: 10 Aug 2019 09:00 AM PDT Straight off the bat, you should definitely take this info with a grain of salt for more than a few reasons. The most obvious being Apple's legendary secrecy when it comes to its future releases. And then there is the fact that the original source - leakster CoinX on Twitter has a fairly short track record. Relatively speaking, of course. Then again, the same source did successfully pinpoint the iPhone XS/XR naming last year and also revealed the existence of a 10.5-inch iPad Air. That being the case, if you choose to believe in that particular crystal ball, here is the vague... |
