Google accidentally reveals Pixel 5a camera details and samples Posted: 24 Apr 2021 07:00 AM PDT Google recently confirmed the existence of the Pixel 5a to clear the confusion and rumors that suggested otherwise. In a more recent blog post related to camera features and the capabilities of the HDR+ algorithm, the company linked a Google Photos gallery full of camera samples taken with already existing Pixel phones. Two of the images, however, stand out. The first image that you see below has since been taken down, but the EXIF data has already revealed what we needed and it clearly says Google Pixel 5a. This, in turn, suggests that there would only be one variant with Snapdragon 765G... |
Xiaomi's Mi Mix Fold goes through an extensive 400,000 bending test Posted: 24 Apr 2021 05:00 AM PDT Xiaomi announced its own vision of a foldable smartphone, the Mi Mix Fold, almost a month ago and, of course, questions about the durability of the moving parts arise, as it's usually the case with foldable smartphones. To prove the rigidness of the Mi Mix Fold, Xiaomi put it to vigorous testing. The device withstood more than 400,000 bendings, which roughly translates to about 10 years of normal usage. One would argue that by that time, you'd have other more pressing issues with the phone. The test itself was carried out in the span of 7 days and the Mi Mix Fold was "violently"... |

YouTube's mobile apps get new video resolution settings Posted: 23 Apr 2021 11:50 PM PDT YouTube has started rolling out new video resolution settings for its Android and iOS apps. Until now, YouTube presented a list of resolutions for video playback along with an Auto option, which allowed the app to automatically adjust the video quality depending on the speed of your Internet connection. Old video quality settings But now, under the Quality menu of the video, you see a total of only four options - Auto, Higher picture quality, Data saver, and Advanced. Auto continues to work like before, while the Higher picture quality setting uses more data for a better quality... |
Asus Zenfone 8 will become official on May 12, promised to be "compact in size" Posted: 23 Apr 2021 06:19 PM PDT Asus has announced when it's going to make the Zenfone 8 family of smartphones official. The unveiling event will take place on May 12 at 1 PM Eastern / 7 PM CET. We are thus less than 19 days away from that point, as the counter on the special event website helpfully informs us, with a handy countdown that perhaps unnecessarily includes seconds. The Taiwanese company says we should expect something that's "big on performance", and "compact in size". Regarding the former, the implication is obvious - expect a Snapdragon 888 chipset at the helm. As for the latter claim, we have seen a... |
See if the Black Shark 4 bends like the Asus ROG Phone 5 and the Lenovo Legion Duel 2 Posted: 23 Apr 2021 03:32 PM PDT 2021 gaming phones have so far turned out to be suffering on the durability front, especially when we're talking bend tests. Recently we've seen both the Asus ROG Phone 5 and the Lenovo Legion Duel 2 snapping in two (or even three) when subjected to some bending pressure, and now it's another gaming phone's turn. The Black Shark 4 is the cheapest of the bunch, so does that mean it will fare even worse? There's only one way to tell, and that's to watch the JerryRigEverything video embedded below, in which Zack takes the phone through the usual 'durability test' procedures: scratching,... |
Our Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite (4G) video review is out Posted: 23 Apr 2021 12:09 PM PDT After our Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G video review, it's time to turn our attention to the 4G Mi 11 Lite in our latest video breakdown. It's €100 cheaper here in Europe compared to the 5G model so are the tradeoffs worth the saved cash? Join us as Will breaks down the Mi 11 Lite's pros and cons. Xiaomi went for a dual glass design with the Mi 11 Lite 4G, though this model brings a glossy back instead of the matte we saw on the 5G model. As the "Lite" name suggests, the phone is really slim and tips the scale at just 157 grams. Mi 11 Lite 5G (right) next to Mi 11 Lite 4G... |
Posted: 23 Apr 2021 10:11 AM PDT We're in a transitional period – 5G is becoming more common, but is not yet the prevalent option. This is why we often get both a 4G and a 5G version of phones and, sometimes, the difference between them goes beyond the modem. That is the case for the Realme 8 5G and its 4G sibling. Part of it is unavoidable, most chipsets these days have built-in modems, so if you want a 5G modem, you need to switch to a 5G chipset. The Realme 8 5G arrives at the office - an affordable phone that loves 5G above all else Realme picked the Dimensity 700, MediaTek's most basic 5G chip. The modem... |
Realme 8 Pro in Illuminating Yellow to arrive for sale on April 26 Posted: 23 Apr 2021 08:57 AM PDT The Realme 8 Pro smartphone was unveiled a month ago in two colors - Black or Blue - and the brand promised a third option called Illuminating Yellow to come "soon". The wait is finally over and the new color is finally hitting India on April 26. The new color is not just another paint job, it is an entirely new concept with some elements that glow in the dark. That's right, the rim around the camera island and the "Dare To Leap" logo are coated with a fluorescent material that glows in the dark. Aside from that, the phone is impressive on the inside as well. It is the first Realme... |
Posted: 23 Apr 2021 07:50 AM PDT The four iPhone 12 models made up 61% of the total iPhone sales in the US during the three month period ending in March, according to data by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners. The quartet is lead by the vanilla iPhone 12 as is the norm of Apple. The iPhone 11 dominated in March last year, making up a third of sales (it was as best seller even before that). Its predecessor, the iPhone XR, was once king of the hill as well. But we'll get back to the 11. Moving on to the other members of the 12-series, the 12 Pro Max comes in second, then it's the 12 Pro and, finally, the unpopular... |
