Samsung highlights some of the new One UI 3.0 Android 11 features Posted: 31 Oct 2020 08:30 AM PDT One UI 3.0 builds are well into public beta at this point. Galaxy S20 family devices in both the US and Germany, signed-up for the program are already running test Android 11, One UI 3.0 ROMs and in a more-recent development, so are US Note20 units. A new page has now gone up on the company's official Malaysian website, highlighting some of the major new additions and changes in One UI 3.0. Probably the biggest news on there, however, is in the small print below the images, that promises a November launch for One UI 3.0. Samsung is yet to officially unveil a list of supported... |
Micromax In 1A phone teased in video ahead of launch Posted: 31 Oct 2020 06:30 AM PDT Micromax is making a return to the India smartphone market, with a launch already set for November 3. We are still a bit short on hardware specifics and even the exact models of the upcoming In phones are not officially confirmed. However, most rumors seem to point at a pair of devices, allegedly called the Micromax In 1 and In 1A. One with a Mediatek Helio G35 chipset and the other with a G85 one. Beyond all of the official teasers, at least one of the new phones has now popped-up in the wild, in an first-look YouTube video, featuring Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma. Mr. Sharma... |
Google Pixel 5 teardown video offers a bit more context for the screen gap issue Posted: 31 Oct 2020 04:30 AM PDT Google's latest and greatest Pixel 5 has started to slowly make its way onto the market, with first impressions and reviews from media and the community already revealing some issues with the device. Pixel-related hardware issues have pretty-much turned into an industry meme at this point, with basically every generation getting heat in one way or another. Call it a self-fulfilling prophecy if you want, but the Pixel 5 didn't manage to break the cycle. Reports of screen gap issues have started popping-up here and there. What better way to actually take a closer look at what is... |
Apple iPhone 12 Pro in for review Posted: 31 Oct 2020 01:49 AM PDT Our review of the iPhone 12 is already up, but we've also been spending some quality time with the more premium iPhone 12 Pro. But while the review team is still doing its thing here go a few early thoughts. The iPhone 12 Pro certainly makes a better first impression than the iPhone 12. For starters the frame isn't aluminum but stainless steel. It feels better too and it's shinier. The rear glass is nicer to touch too, thanks to its matte finish (the regular 12 gets a shiny one). Finally the iPhone 12 Pro gains 25 grams on the regular 12, making it feel denser and more... |
OnePlus 8T gets minor OxygenOS 11.0.2.3 update Posted: 30 Oct 2020 11:09 PM PDT The OnePlus 8T is getting its second software update since launch. The company is now rolling out OxygenOS 11.0.2.3 for all three regions (US, EU, and India). If you haven't received the update yet, it should be available in the next week or so. The 11.0.2.3 update is largely for fixing some of the issues reported in the previous version. It optimizes the system power consumption and reduces heat generation. There also seemed to have been an issue with icons not displaying correctly on the homescreen that have been fixed. There are also some fixes to Bluetooth and the Gallery app and... |
T-Mobile announces LG Wing is coming to the carrier, launched BOGO deal Posted: 30 Oct 2020 08:55 PM PDT Today, T-Mobile is announcing the arrival of the LG Wing 5G directly from the carrier. The phone will be available in both Aurora Gray and Illusion Sky – the latter is not available from Verizon. The Wing 5G is coming with support for T-Mobile's low-band (600MHz) and mid-band (2.5GHz) 5G networks. To boost sales of the LG Wing, T-Mobile is offering a BOGO (buy one, get one free) promotion for anyone who purchases two LG Wing 5G smartphones from the carrier. Although promotions from US carriers usually require customers to add a line or trade in an eligible device, T-Mobile really... |
iPhone 12 cameras can only be replaced by official Apple technicians, 12 Pro is unaffected Posted: 30 Oct 2020 06:02 PM PDT Back when Apple added a fingerprint reader to the iPhone 5s, it made it impossible to replace by anyone other than an authorized technician. That makes some sense – a bogus reader may circumvent security. But over the years more and more components have become difficult to replace. During its teardown and testing of the iPhone 12, iFixit found that taking the camera out and replacing it with an identical module from another phone causes issues. And not just the error report you get when you swap screens ("Unable to verify that this iPhone has a genuine Apple display"). No, this looks... |
LG’s Q3 earnings report shows signs of recovery for mobile division Posted: 30 Oct 2020 04:35 PM PDT Earlier today, LG posted its earnings report for the July-September period and results from the mobile division are looking promising. Operating income from mobile was listed at KRW 1.52 trillion ($1.34 billion) - a 17% quarter on quarter increase in sales. Despite this, the mobile division is still operating at a loss - $124.9 million for Q3 which is down from the $169.1 million loss in Q2 2020. LG saw improved sales figures across major markets in North and South America. The LG Wing, Velvet and Q51 were listed as the key smartphones for LG in the past quarter. Increased production... |

Latest OnePlus 8T promo video is shot on the phone itself Posted: 30 Oct 2020 03:03 PM PDT The tagline for the OnePlus 8T launch was "Ultra stops at nothing", now the company has tapped actor/writer Kalki Koechlin to expand on that message in a spoken word poetry format. The video below was written by Koechlin and shot on an 8T. You can also follow the Source link for how OnePlus is handling the eventful year that 2020 turned out to be and how it wants to help the community do the same. The recently launched Open Ears Forum in India asked the question "How do we use OnePlus devices and OxygenOS in a time like this to minimize distractions and maximize productivity?" The... |
Snapdragon 875 could be 25% faster than its predecessor, leaked AnTuTu result shows Posted: 30 Oct 2020 01:44 PM PDT The Snapdragon 875 chipset is code-named "Lahaina" and it may be significantly faster than expected – an early benchmark shows a score of over 847,000 points in AnTuTu. This is much higher than its predecessor, which currently tops the charts with 663,000 points or so. That's a jump of over 25%, a huge leap for a yearly upgrade. Of course, these results will need to be corroborated before the Qualcomm team can pop the champagne. For comparison, the iPhone 12 scored 565,000. While the Kirin 9000 and Exynos 1080 posted scores of 696,000 and 693,000, respectively – enough to top... |
Pixel 5 gets mediocre 120 points in DxOMark test Posted: 30 Oct 2020 12:20 PM PDT Google Pixel 5's main camera uses the Sony IMX363 – the same sensor that the Pixel 3 and 4 used. And it's lacking the Pixel Neural Core as apparently the Snapdragon 765G has enough processing power to handle the Google algorithms that are behind the success of the Pixel cameras. Still, there's only so much that can be done given the old hardware and lack of a third camera – there's no zoom camera this time (last year, it was the ultra wide cam that was MIA). DxOMark gave the phone an overall score of 120, an improvement over the previous generation but not enough to get it out of the... |

Having already completed our written review, we are now ready to show you the video version. It's over 10 minutes long, so take a comfortable seat and see what Will has to say about the Apple iPhone 12. Update brings REM sleep detection to original Amazfit GTR and GTS, improves GPS Posted: 30 Oct 2020 09:41 AM PDT Amazfit unveiled the second generation GTR and GTS smart watches and among their upgrades was REM detection. REM sleep is essential for a good night's rest, this update will improve the sleep analysis performed by the watch. After installing the new firmware, you can activate REM detection in the Zepp app (which used to be called Amazfit). A previous update enabled the original Amazfit GTR and GTS to detect daytime naps too. This update also improves the accuracy of GPS tracking during exercise. It's not the first to do so, Amazfit has tweaked the GPS speed and position accuracy... |
