Weekly poll: Will a Huawei Mate 40 have you saying goodbye to Google?

Posted: 25 Oct 2020 06:02 AM PDT

Huawei's rapid-fire event this Thursday brought many new devices, the most interesting of which are, of course, the new Mate flagships. The ANC over-ear headphones, the fancy smartwatch and the other things are interesting as well, don't get us wrong, but let's focus on the phones for now. Starting with the Huawei Mate 40 Pro. This phone will be available in the UK on November 13 and should arrive in most parts of Europe by the end of the year. As for its siblings - they are not coming to the Old Continent yet or perhaps ever, even though Huawei announced their prices in...

This year, Google has taken a drastically different approach with the Pixel lineup. Rather than pack a new Pixel phone with a high-end chipset and QHD screen, Google has instead gone the route of focusing on the overall experience. The Google Pixel 5 is this year's Pixel flagship and there are some major changes for 2020.

Flashback: Huawei Mate 9 series upgraded the Leica camera, partnered with Porsche Design

Posted: 25 Oct 2020 02:27 AM PDT

Previously, we've explored how Huawei's relationship with Leica began with the P9 and P9 Plus. This week's introduction of the new Mate 40 series had us thinking of Huawei again, so it's time to cover the company's other 2016 flagships – the Mate 9 trio. Huawei Mate 9 Pro (left) and Huawei Mate 9 (right) This was the generation that drafted the blueprint for Huawei's current releases: one vanilla phone, one Pro and one "out there" Porsche Design model. This game plan was only changed earlier this year when the company added another tier, the Pro+. The Huawei Mate 9 Pro had a...

Weekly poll results: iPhone 12 mini wins big, followed by Pro Max, 12 Pro at the bottom

Posted: 24 Oct 2020 11:01 PM PDT

There are two reasons why Apple released the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro first. One, they share most of their components, simplifying the build process. Two, Cupertino must have thought they are the two most interesting models out of the four. And analysts think the same – Ming-Chi Kuo estimates 7-9 million units were ordered on day 1 and predicts that the mini and Pro Max will not be as popular. Last week's poll shows the opposite, however, as the two models scheduled for a November launch can't come soon enough. As usual, there's a large contingent of people not interested in buying an...

Amazfit Bip S Lite Review

Posted: 24 Oct 2020 07:33 PM PDT

Huami launched the original Amazfit Bip a couple of years ago and it immediately got a somewhat large and loyal following with its spectacular battery life. It's no surprise then that the company followed it up with the Bip S this year that we already reviewed and now yet another version. A toned-down model of the Bip S, dubbed Amazfit Bip S Lite is with us today and while it misses out on some features of the Bip S it manages to bring down the cost too, so does it offer more bang for your buck? Let's try to answer that with this review. Amazfit Bip S Lite specifications ...

MIUI 12 hits Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T's global version

Posted: 24 Oct 2020 12:00 PM PDT

Xiaomi has started seeding the latest MIUI 12 version to the global Redmi Note 8T. The firmware version is 12.0.1.0.QCXMIXM and, of course, it's still based on Android 10. The October security patch comes along too. However, if you are a European owner, the update might arrive a little later. Units outside of China and Europe are receiving the much-awaited MIUI 12. Anyway, aside from all the MIUI 12-intrinsic features, the changelog mentions optimizations to the Control Center's layout in landscape mode. Another fix is related to the noise you could hear coming out of the screen when...

Posted: 24 Oct 2020 10:00 AM PDT

As per Google, the demand for bicycle navigation on Google Maps has grown rapidly during the COVID-19 outbreak. Requests have grown 69% and Google is now responding with a couple of useful biking-related features and navigation for some major cities. In some cities, you can now use Google Maps to guide you through bicycle lanes or bicycle-friendly streets and areas. After all, you can catch some pretty tricky shortcuts when on two wheels. Additionally, Google...
