Posted: 04 Aug 2020 07:43 AM PDT

The new Pixel 4a supports Live HDR+ and Dual Exposure, features first introduced with the Pixel 4 (note that these won't be backported to older devices). The tech giant published a detailed blog post explaining how the two features work. First, what is Live HDR+? It shows a real time preview of what the final HDR+ photo will look like. Note that this is just a preview derived using a different algorithm. The real HDR+ takes 3-15 underexposed photos (to reduce noise), aligns them and merges them. After the merge, tone mapping is applied to produce the final photo where details in...

Huawei Mate 40 Pro is coming with a curved screen, as a leaked screen protector revealed yesterday. However, it didn't have any cutouts for cameras and we spiraled into all kinds of interpretations, including an under-display solution. Early 3D renders of the phone actually revealed a dual front camera in a pill-shaped punch hole, which looks a lot like the Huawei P40 Pro's design. There are also at least two sensors on top - one is an IR blaster, but the other's purpose is still undecided. The Huawei Mate 40 Pro is going to stick with the circular camera design on the back, housing...

Huawei Mate 40 renders showcase gigantic circular camera bump

Posted: 03 Aug 2020 05:01 PM PDT

We have another round of CAD-based renders to look at today, and these are said to depict the upcoming Huawei Mate 40. However, we're thinking this may be the Mate 40 Pro as well, or even the Mate 40 Pro+, as three versions of the flagship phone have been rumored - and such a strategy would emulate what Huawei's done with the P40 family. Anyway, let's assume this is the vanilla Mate 40. It has a gigantic circular rear camera bump, that's probably the biggest one we've ever seen. There are three cameras inside, with a fourth space seemingly empty, but that might be employing a LIDAR...

But this new report coming from Digitimes claims that the rollout of the new devices will be split into two stages. The first stage will deliver the two 6.1-inch iPhones while the second stage will bring the 6.7-inch and 5.4-inch members of the lineup. Unfortunately, there's no info on when those waves will happen...

Moto E7 Plus visits Geekbench, packs twice as much RAM as the vanilla E7

Posted: 03 Aug 2020 11:11 AM PDT

A Motorola Moto E7 Plus ran Geekbench earlier today. It's an Android 10 phone with 4 GB of RAM, which puts it above the vanilla Moto E7. That one leaked on the Google Play Console with only 2 GB of RAM. Moto E7 Plus: Geekbench 4.3 result The vanilla model will be powered by the Snapdragon 632 chipset, that much we know from the Console. However, the E7 Plus motherboard is listed as "guam" and it's not clear which Snapdragon that refers to. Presumably, a 6 or 7-series chip as it would be odd for the Plus model to get a lower end chip. The Geekbench 4.3 score lines up with what we...
