Posted: 15 Aug 2020 06:45 AM PDT

With the latest OxygenOS 10.5.13 for India and 10.5.12 for Europe, the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro get some important bug fixes related to the Ambient display feature as well as August security patch from Google. The changelog says that there are some stability improvements under the hood and the overlapping characters on the Ambient display have been resolved. Of course, other small bug fixes are in order too. There's also a brief mention of improved shooting effects with the front-facing camera, but not much detail has been given on the matter. It appears to be a staged rollout, as usual,...

Samsung Galaxy Watch3 gets ECG-certified in the US

Posted: 15 Aug 2020 05:09 AM PDT

Good news for Galaxy Watch3 owners in the US - FDA appears to have given the green light and it's now officially ECG-certified in the country. This was made clear with a firmware update that the US users started getting. The ECG monitor on the watch is one of its key features, just like Apple's Watch and the Galaxy Watch Active2, for example, and it's a shame that only a couple of markets can take the full advantage of the hardware. At least for now, only South Korea and the US have approved the ECG monitor. Additionally, the firmware adds VO2 Max measurements so you can check...

Samsung Galaxy S21 to come without ToF sensor

Posted: 15 Aug 2020 02:45 AM PDT

Samsung's recently announced Galaxy Note20 flagships came without ToF sensors and a recent report coming out of South Korea claims that the Galaxy S21 will also come without the ToF modules. Samsung decided to drop the ToF sensors on the Galaxy S21 because there aren't enough use cases for this technology right now. Besides, the indirect ToF technology Samsung uses is less powerful than the direct ToF technology used by Apple. The latter is developed by Sony, and Samsung couldn't get it since Apple has an exclusive deal with the Japanese tech giant. Samsung Galaxy S20+ (on left) and...

HTC Wildfire E Lite shows up in the Google Play Console, has specs uncovered

Posted: 14 Aug 2020 10:48 PM PDT

Earlier this month HTC made the Wildfire E2 smartphone official in Russia, with entry-level specs and a price to match. However, it turns out that the Taiwanese company is also working on an even cheaper, even more basic handset to be launched soon under the Wildfire sub-brand. This will be called Wildfire E Lite, and it has just showed up in the Google Play Console. The listing tells us that the phone has a screen with 720x1440 resolution, with a now quite uncommon 18:9 aspect ratio. As you can see from the tiny picture showing the handset's front, there are no notches or hole...

This has given us the upcoming phone's model number, which is V2027. A little bit of digging has revealed that a vivo V2027 has run Geekbench on July 27, managing a 252 single-core score and 1,239 multi-core score. Information revealed by the benchmark listing and the page's source tells us that the vivo Y20 will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 460 chipset, paired with 4GB of RAM. It...

Google wants to kill Duo and integrate it into Meet

Posted: 14 Aug 2020 06:41 PM PDT

Google has launched and killed so many communications services and apps that it's not even funny to joke about it anymore. Whenever a new one comes along, we inevitably wonder how long before the company will bury its features into something else it has, or just kill it entirely - only to then launch something similar a few months or years later. Well, the time has come for Google Duo to get the axe. At least that's what sources are telling 9to5Google. Duo was launched many years ago alongside Allo, which was supposed to be the text chat companion to Duo's video chat...

The video call feature is currently being made available in an alpha state across all the apps. As with the voice calls, all video calls in Telegram are being end-to-end encrypted. The app will show four emoji on screen for you and your call partner. If both have the same four emoji, the call is encrypted. The voice call feature makes use of the...
