Huawei 5G network equipment banned in the UK effective December 31 Posted: 14 Jul 2020 07:45 AM PDT In a sweeping turn of events, the UK government has banned Huawei from providing 5G infrastructure equipment to local carriers. Effective after December 31, British telecom operators will no longer be allowed to buy or use Huawei 5G components in their next-gen networks. The decision was signed off by Prime Minister Boris Johnson during a meeting with the National Security Council (NSC) and in addition orders all currently deployed Huawei 5G equipment to be removed by 2027. We have been clear-eyed from the start that the Chinese-owned vendors Huawei and ZTE were deemed to be...
Posted: 14 Jul 2020 07:15 AM PDT The Realme C11 was announced for India today and we got our hands on the device for some early impressions. Let's start with the retail box. Realme is pushing for affordable here (the phone launches at Rs 7,499 or USD $100), which means you don't get a silicone case inside the retail box. There's a sim eject tool, USB cable and a 10W charger, which is the largest Realme has even shipped us. Holding the 6.5-inch 196g C11 feels nice. The display doesn't impress on paper - it's a 720x1560px IPS LCD of generic refresh rate - but it's bright and sharp enough. It's also uninterrupted...
Oppo A12s announced: Helio P35 SoC, 6.2" display, and dual camera Posted: 14 Jul 2020 06:45 AM PDT After unveiling the A12 back in April Oppo has announced the A12s. But it's not an entirely new phone. It's actually the A12 with a different design, meaning it comes with a Helio P35 SoC under the hood with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, and there's also a microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 256GB. The Oppo A12s runs the dated Android 9 Pie with ColorOS 6.1 on top. It's built around a 6.2" LCD of 1520x720-pixel resolution that has a notch up top for the 5MP selfie camera, which comes with AI Beauty mode. Around the back, we have a fingerprint reader keeping company to the dual...
Possible sighting of Samsung Galaxy Tab A 7.0 at Geekbench shows Snapdragon 662 chipset Posted: 14 Jul 2020 06:00 AM PDT A Samsung tablet – possibly the Galaxy Tab A 7.0 – surfaced on Geekbench with an unknown Qualcomm chipset. The tablet, SM-T505, runs Android 10 and has 3 GB of RAM, which suggests this is a more affordable model. What chipset is it using, though? It's listed as "Bengal" and has an octa-core CPU clocked at 1.8 GHz. This is one of several recent chips from Qualcomm: Bengal, Lagoon, Scuba and Lito (this last one has been surfacing quite often). Samsung SM-T505 tablet at Geekbench with (possibly) a Snapdragon 662 chipset Based on kernel source code, the Bengal has an Adreno 610 GPU...
Oppo A72 5G specs and images surface Posted: 14 Jul 2020 05:30 AM PDT An unreleased Oppo smartphone sporting model code PDYM20 was spotted on Chinese certifying authority TENAA's website earlier this month. It was assumed to be a Reno series smartphone but turns out that's not the case since the device has popped up on China Telecom's website with the moniker Oppo A72 5G. The listing also includes the images and specs of the Oppo A72 5G. The smartphone supports dual-mode 5G and packs a 6.5" 90Hz display with a punch hole in the top-left corner for the 8MP selfie camera. Around the back, you get a 16MP primary camera joined by 8MP (likely ultrawide) and 2MP...
First Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 render appears online Posted: 14 Jul 2020 05:00 AM PDT Samsung is expected to unveil a duo of tablets at its Unpacked event next month - the Galaxy Tab S7 and the Galaxy Tab S7+, and an official-looking version of the non-Plus option was leaked by Evan Blass. The slate appears to have redesigned body, compared with its predecessor Galaxy Tab S6, as well as the attachable keyboard and the back cover. All the sides of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 will be flat, and one cannot miss the similarities with Apple's competitor - the iPad Pro 11 (2020). The selfie camera made its way on the long side and will be on top when the tablet is held in...
Oppo Reno4 Pro spotted in NCC, nearing global launch Posted: 14 Jul 2020 03:15 AM PDT The Oppo Reno4 Pro 5G might soon be ready for a global release outside of China. The latest evidence is seen in a Taiwanese NCC listing of the Oppo Reno4 Pro with model number OPPO CPH2089 featuring a new black-colored variant with a unique etched design not currently available in China. The overall design is otherwise identical to the Chinese variant. The phone in question appears in a few live photos from the listing in a few different angles. One images shows the phone next to its package contents, which includes a bundled pair of USB-C earbuds, and a 50W...
Google accidentally shows off the Pixel 4a to the world Posted: 14 Jul 2020 02:45 AM PDT Take a look at the Google Pixel 4a, courtesy of Google itself. The official render went up on Google's Canadian store page where an image of the Nest WiFi should have been. Technically we've already seen the Pixel 4a, but it's nice to have the design confirmed once and for all. The Pixel 4a has a single selfie camera embedded into the display, a single rear camera with a flash, capacitive fingerprint scanner and a headphone jack. The date on the phone's screen - May 12 - seemingly confirms that Google was planning to unveil the Pixel 4a at its I/O conference, but decided to push the...

Realme will also adopt 125W fast-charging solution, introduction scheduled for July 16 Posted: 13 Jul 2020 11:04 PM PDT Realme has always been open about its heritage as a company - it is a separate brand, but is using the know-how and R&D of Oppo to build better phones for the younger audience, as the CMO Xu Qi Chase once told us. After yesterday's announcement that Oppo is planning to introduce 125W fast-charging solution, today the Realme account on Weibo said it will also introduce a 5G smartphone with "Super Flash Charge". At the very same time, Chase posted the same image on his personal profile with the text 1111101 which is 125. Realme smartphones tend to stay away from the VOOC and SuperVOOC...
| Fred Armisen stars in Google’s new smart speaker campaign, kicks off month of deals Posted: 13 Jul 2020 10:15 PM PDT On Monday, Google has dropped a couple of commercials starring actor, writer, and comedian Fred Armisen – both of which feel very much like skits from the actor's TV Show Portlandia. The first ad is called "The Nest Meditation Guru | Find Inner Peace, Instantly". This one shows the Nest Home's abilities to play relaxing music or sounds – which feels like something that any person would want for their sanity during these strange times. | Apple iPhone Batterygate victims can now apply to receive $25 settlement Posted: 13 Jul 2020 04:19 PM PDT It is one of those rare conspiracy theories that actually turned out to be true. We're talking about Batterygate, which started off as people feeling that Apple was intentionally diminishing the performance of their older iPhones to sell them newer ones. Turns out - the company was actually doing that, but for an entirely different reason that had to do with battery longevity. Here we are a few years later and if you were one of the people in the US affected by this, you can now file an application to receive a compensation from Apple, which will amount to around $25. You can apply if you... |
