Posted: 06 May 2020 08:00 AM PDT

Samsung, along with other big OEMs, extended the warranty on most of its products due to the COVID-19 crisis about a month ago. With the service centers closed, the company had to compensate its customers somehow, so anyone with a Samsung device with expiring warranty between March 20 and April 30 will be able to fix their phone until May 31. Today, Samsung Croatia is extending that period even further. Since the extended period is slightly different depending on the market, the new date for Croatian Samsung owners is pushed back to July 15. Initially, customers in the country had...

The name briefly appeared on Xioami's official Indian website where it has a data of its SAR testing. It has since been removed but it sparked an investigation at the XDA-Developers. It turns out that the phone has a model number M2003J6CI and it's codenamed "gram". Interestingly enough, the name has been hiding in plain sight and there's proof that the Xiaomi has been working on the phone for a while. There's a firmware ready for the "gram" and has also...

Posted: 06 May 2020 05:02 AM PDT

Redmi's general manager just teased the fans of the brand that the company is about to launch a surprise device this month but a renowned leakster was quick to reveal the company's plans. According to the so-called Digital Chat Station on Weibo, Redmi is going to announce either the Redmi 10X, which is supposed to be a rebranded Redmi Note 9 for the Chinese market, a Redmi 9, 10 or a still-unnamed Redmi phone powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 800 chipset. Looking back, we remember a report claiming that Redmi is planning to launch the cheapest 5G smartphone yet and even though the...

Xiaomi's affordable brand Redmi has a reason to celebrate today - it reached 30 million sales of its Note 8 lineup. Huawei FreeBuds 3i are truly wireless and have active noise cancellation for £89.99

Posted: 05 May 2020 07:59 PM PDT

Huawei has unveiled the FreeBuds 3i for European markets today. These are truly wireless Bluetooth earbuds with active noise cancellation built-in. That instantly makes them compete head to head with Apple's AirPods Pro. And when you look at the design of the FreeBuds 3i, that point will be fully driven home. The AirPods have clearly served as inspiration here, but let's not let that get in the way. The FreeBuds 3i each feature a 3-mic system, of which two mics are outward-facing, and one is inward-facing. The former pick up your voice, the latter receives your voice conducted inside...

iPhone SE (2020) gets torn down on video

Posted: 05 May 2020 05:56 PM PDT

The new iPhone SE (2020) has been the talk of the town ever since it was unveiled in mid-April, and the most affordable phone in the company's roster is clearly getting a lot of attention sales-wise as well. It makes sense - it's an intriguing mix of the latest chipset paired with a shell that is a few years old, all for a very good price (at least considering this is an iPhone). We've already seen it undergo a teardown by iFixit, and today it's time for JerryRigEverything's video version, in which you get to see what it's like getting on the inside of the new iPhone SE. The iPhone...

Check out the first Sony Xperia 10 II camera samples

Posted: 05 May 2020 03:51 PM PDT

After a long wait, the Sony Xperia 10 II is finally ready to hit store shelves. It will become available in Taiwan first (starting on May 20) and should arrive in Europe soon (Sony's official site has "Buy Now" buttons but for now they lead nowhere). Anyway, the launch of the phone brings us the first camera samples. Unlike its predecessor, the Xperia 10 II has a proper triple camera with wide, ultrawide and telephoto lenses. The sensor resolutions are 12MP, 8MP and 8MP, respectively, so don't expect the same quality as the Xperia 1 II, but it's still a major improvement over the original...

DxOMark unimpressed with the Honor V30 Pro's selfie cameras

Posted: 05 May 2020 02:58 PM PDT

DxOMark has completed its review of the Honor V30 Pro's front cameras and the conclusion isn't overly positive. The pair of cameras got a 70 photo and 85 video score for a total of 76, which puts the V30 Pro mid-table, behind such devices as the Honor 20 Pro, the Huawei P30 Pro and even a Google Pixel 2. That middling result's in high contrast to the Honor V30 Pro's main camera review, which placed the phone in sixth place. In its review DxOMark praised the face exposure, the low noise in photos, the white balance, and effective stabilization in videos. Points were taken away for the...

Top Google exec caught using a Pixel 4a

Posted: 05 May 2020 02:07 PM PDT

The Google Pixel 4a is coming on May 22 and it will have a punch hole for the selfie camera. The latter fact became clear from a seemingly innocent shared screenshot by Google's SVP of Hardware, Rick Osterloh. The screenshot of him getting an Earth badge on Fitbit has a blank space in the top left corner that's reserved for the physical punch hole, which pushes the clock and the rest of the status bar to the side. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip sales go up in March as the Galaxy S20 flagships struggle

Posted: 05 May 2020 01:16 PM PDT

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip (which launched in mid-February) seems to be doing better than the company's first foldable phone - 230,000 units were sold in the month of March alone, 56.1% up from the February numbers. For comparison, Samsung sold 400,000 Galaxy Folds in all of 2019. Still, that's a minor win as the big money maker, the Galaxy S20 series, is not doing so hot. A report from Korea states that sales are 35% down from what the S10 managed last year. While COVID-19 related lockdowns certainly had an effect, the overall sales of Samsung smartphones are down 22.4% - a steep drop,...

Microsoft: Windows 10X is also coming to single screen devices

Posted: 05 May 2020 12:29 PM PDT

After Microsoft delayed the Surface Neo indefinitely, questions about the Windows 10X development rose. After all, this version of Windows was designed to work with dual-screen devices. Well, Microsoft has now confirmed that Windows 10X is still happening but it will change its focus. According to a short Microsoft blog post, the company is going to optimize the upcoming version of its OS for single screen devices and touchscreens, meaning laptops, tablets and hybrids. It would "leverage the power of the cloud". However, no specifics have been given but it's clear that Windows 10X will...

Samsung Internet beta adds protection against Back button hijacking

Posted: 05 May 2020 11:44 AM PDT

The Samsung Internet browser may be based on Chromium, but it offers a few extra goodies over Chrome. Things like support for add-ons and privacy-oriented features. The upcoming version 11.2.1.3 (currently in Beta) introduces a new feature that will prevent sites from messing up the Back button. Sometimes you accidentally land on a shady site only to find out that pressing the Back button just reloads the page or worse, takes you to a different page that's just ads top to bottom. This new feature is somewhat confusingly named "Block unwanted webpages", but if you read the...

Meizu 17 series will debut with Flyme 8.1 based on Android 10

Posted: 05 May 2020 10:52 AM PDT

Meizu is gearing up to release its latest flagships with the 17 series on May 8. We've come across numerous leaks so far and the latest one courtesy of the brand's official Weibo profile confirms both phones will ship with Meizu's custom Flyme 8.1 user interface based on Android 10. The company's most recent version Flyme 8 was still based on Android 9 Pie. Meizu also holds a poor track record of providing timely updates which means there is little hope of a future major Android update coming to the 17 series soon. Sadly, the new poster did not reveal any of the new Flyme 8.1...

The Tecno Spark 5 Air is a 7-inch phone with Android 10 Go edition

Posted: 05 May 2020 10:07 AM PDT

While it's billed as a smartphone, the Tecno Spark 5 Air definitely blurs the lines with tablets with its 7" screen. The Air is pretty similar to the Tecno Spark 5 from yesterday, which also has a pretty roomy screen with a 6.6" panel. Unfortunately, the increase in screen size did not come with a bump in resolution and 720 x 1,640px is quite a stretch on 7". Tecno Spark 5 Air The two phones are fairly similar, both feature an 8MP selfie camera. This time it's in a teardrop notch and the dual LED flash embedded in the top bezel puts some distance between the two LEDs, which...
