Posted: 24 May 2020 07:47 AM PDT In today's tech realm it's no longer enough to just make phones - brands need to have an entire ecosystem where their devices integrate seamlessly and augment each others' functionality. Huawei's "accessory" devices are of even higher importance seeing how the Shenzhen-based company needs to give people more reasons to stick with its platform as it builds up viable alternatives to the Google suite and find alternative revenue streams to make up for its shrinking overseas smartphone sales. We are now about to review the Huawei Watch GT 2e, initially unveiled back in late March alongside the...
Weekly poll: How much will you spend on your next phone? Posted: 24 May 2020 04:34 AM PDT Understandably, people are quite price sensitive right now. It doesn't help that certain smartphone makers decided that $1,000 is a good starting point for flagships rather than being the absolute ceiling. And we're not talking about exotic devices like the foldable phones. The Galaxy S20+ 5G originally started at $1,200. The iPhone 11 Pro is about that much if you want more than 64GB storage. Even Oppo isn't shy about going over a thousand for its top of the line models. Also, historically affordable brands have now crept up the pricing charts (e.g. OnePlus and more recently,...
Weekly poll results: Poco F2 Pro was worth the wait, would have been better without 5G Posted: 24 May 2020 01:22 AM PDT The Poco F2 Pro was worth the wait, results from last week's poll show an overall positive attitude, but not without some comments on the feature set. The prevailing opinion is that the 5G connectivity is largely wasted as the regions where the Poco will be popular simply do not have next-gen networks yet. For example, folks in India may have to wait until 2022 to get 5G coverage from the local carriers. Of course, with this model Poco will try to break into new markets, e.g. Europe, where the 5G will make a difference. Still, it sounds like most people would have been happier to...
Flashback: Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 fixed past mistakes by choosing Android Posted: 23 May 2020 10:14 PM PDT 2008-2010 was a difficult time for Sony Ericsson. In late 2008, it released its first Windows Mobile device, the Xperia X1. A year later, its first non-UIQ Symbian phone came out, the Idou. Another year and the Xperia brand underwent a brain swap and it was now a series of Android phones. The first was the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. It made its debut on April 1 2010, launching on the NTT DoCoMo network and it became the fastest-selling smartphone in the carrier's history - reports from the time indicate that the X10 sold 120,000 units in three weeks, beating even the iPhone 3GS (32GB)....

A couple of images have leaked on Chinese social network Weibo, which reveal the design and a few specs of the Oppo Reno4. The back also has the Oppo logo on the right side of the cameras, below which is a huge text that reads "Glow". This might be the marketing name of the phone's color, but we'll have to... |
Kirin 1020 remains unaffected by US actions, on schedule to power up the Mate 40 Posted: 23 May 2020 05:00 PM PDT With the latest actions from the US Commerce Department that now affect not only Huawei but some of its suppliers like TSMC, people are wondering if this would delay the production of Huawei's upcoming 5nm Kirin 1020 flagship SoC. Well, the initial information said that the sanction affects only future orders and not those already placed by Huawei, which means that 5nm and 7nm SoCs will go through. But the most recent report points at 5nm and 12nm orders because TSMC's 7nm capacity is already full. The 5nm wafers are just 50% full, which in turn means that the Kirin 1020 SoC is on...
