Top 10 trending phones of week 14 Posted: 05 Apr 2020 07:19 AM PDT After the onslaught of new arrivals in week 13 things are starting to normalize in our trending chart. The top three have remained the same, but this time it's the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite 5G that's taking the top step. The Huawei P40 Pro+ settles for the silver medal once more, while the P40 Pro is down in third. The Redmi K30 Pro has gained a spot to place fourth, just ahead of the Galaxy S20 Ultra, which was in tenth last week. The Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro 5G makes a return in sixth, while the yet-to-be-announced Reno Ace 2 captures the seventh spot. The Samsung Galaxy A51 is another well...
Flashback: HTC One was a rebel with a unique camera and great speakers Posted: 05 Apr 2020 03:56 AM PDT The HTC One X was highly regarded, but sales weren't great so the company went back to the drawing board. What it came up with was 2013's HTC One - a phone that tried to change the way consumers think about mobile photography. We'll get back to the aluminum unibody and the audio features, but we want to start with the camera as it got some things right and some things wrong. HTC One official photos The key idea was that pixel size determines image quality, not resolution. Enter UltraPixels, HTC's marketing name for the 2µm pixels. There were only 4 million of them, 4MP...
Weekly poll: the Nokia 8.3 5G marks many firsts for HMD, but is the price too ambitious? Posted: 05 Apr 2020 12:41 AM PDT HMD decided there's no time to wait for the new Bond film and revealed its first ever 5G phone - the Nokia 8.3 5G. This one also has one of the largest screens of any Nokia (even the Lumia 1520 was smaller), plus it's the first Nokia with a 64MP camera. And as you can tell by the ZEISS badge in the middle of the quad camera setup, this phone will aim to please cameraphone enthusiasts. Besides the 64MP sensor, the phone also packs a 12MP ultrawide cam (13mm), a 2MP macro cam and a 2MP depth sensor. Even though it isn't explicitly branded, the 24MP selfie camera also enjoys ZEISS...
Weekly poll results: the Huawei P40 Pro and Pro+ draw in crowds, P40 barely gets noticed Posted: 04 Apr 2020 09:23 PM PDT Huawei makes awesome phones, but the trade war is really hurting its sales potential globally, that's what last week's poll shows. The Huawei P40 Pro and the Pro+ got a lot of love, but the lack of Google Mobile Services really limits the group of potential buyers. Some in the comments were asking for a discount since the phones lack GMS. That's not going to happen - the P40 Pro already costs less than the Samsung and Apple flagships and it's not like Huawei's R&D costs have gone down. In fact, since the company is trying to replace the Google ecosystem, they are likely...
