MediaTek to unveil a new affordable 5G chipset next week Posted: 28 Apr 2020 09:44 AM PDT MediaTek has sent out invites for a May 7 event that will bring a new 5G chipset into the world. And since the tagline is "5G all-inclusive", this will likely be a mid-range offering. The company already has the Dimensity 800 in the mid-range 5G segment as well as the Dimensity 1000 and 1000L for the more premium phones. So, what could it be? Invite to MediaTek's "5G all-inclusive" event on May 7 Leakster Digital Chat Station mentions an MT6853 chip aimed at the entry-level segment. The marketing name of this chip is unknown, but the Dimensity 800 is the MT6873V. Allegedly, work...

The OnePlus Z may be coming in July Posted: 28 Apr 2020 08:06 AM PDT The OnePlus Z - the expected "lite" version of the 8-series - did not join its siblings during the April 14 event. Now leakster Max J is hinting that the phone will be revealed in July instead. As with many things these days, the delay of the Z was blamed on the COVID-19 outbreak. Unofficially anyway, OnePlus never confirmed that it is working on a "lite" model. This was set to be the first OnePlus phone not to use a Snapdragon chipset, allegedly opting for a MediaTek Dimensity 1000L instead. That would still enable 5G connectivity, of course. Interestingly, the outline of the...
The IMO Q2 Plus is coming to EE for £30, is an Android Go phone with 4G and a 4" screen Posted: 28 Apr 2020 07:21 AM PDT What if you want a small, simple phone that is also super affordable? The IMO Q2 Plus True Blue costs just £30 and with a 4" screen it is properly small, which is hard to find these days. You can think of it as a featurephone, but it runs Android 9 Go edition instead of KaiOS (which has limited app support). The IMO is coming to British carrier EE and will be available later this week with a pay as you go deal. Cheap as it is, this is still an LTE phone, so you will get decent wireless speeds, though you might want to consider tethering. Otherwise you will have to face the struggle...

If everything goes as scheduled, Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Note20-series in August with the Exynos 992 on board - an improved version of the Exynos 990 likely based on Samsung's new 6nm manufacturing process. The Galaxy S20-series phones sold outside of South Korea, the US and China are powered by the Exynos 990 and they faced user backlash when they were found to... |

Unlocked OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro face connectivity issues on Verizon Posted: 28 Apr 2020 04:23 AM PDT The new OnePlus duo doesn't officially launch in the US until tomorrow, but some already received their pre-orders. However, those that intended to run their new phone on Verizon's network are faced with compatibility issues. The phones require something called "CDMA-less" mode to operate on the carrier, but that can't be activated - Verizon's network has a whitelist of allowed devices and OnePlus is yet to send a list of IMEI numbers for the carrier to add to said whitelist. People in the OnePlus forums are reporting that their phones mostly work, though they complain of occasional...
Samsung in talks with BOE to supply OLED panels for future Galaxy phones Posted: 28 Apr 2020 03:39 AM PDT Since Samsung is the world's biggest smartphone OLED supplier, it's only natural that the Korean tech giant is using its in-house displays for its Galaxy smartphones. But that's might change in the future, according to industry analysts DSCC. The company says Samsung is in talks with BOE to make some of the OLED screens for future Galaxy smartphones. It is said that the Korean firm is looking for flexible 6.67-inch OLED screen for at least one member of the Galaxy S21 lineup next year. The Galaxy A91 is also going to be equipped with a BOE-made 6.67-inch FHD+ screen. That's a rather...

Qualcomm introduces Quick Charge 3+ for Snapdragon 765 devices Posted: 28 Apr 2020 02:04 AM PDT Qualcomm has been developing fast-charging technologies to go with its chipsets for quite some time, but the latest addition isn't what you'd call usual. Instead of pushing the speeds higher than the last one Quick Charge 3+ is actually a slightly more limited version tailored for premium mid-rangers. Meant for Snapdragon 765-powered devices it will fill an empty battery up to 50% in 15 minutes. In a press release, Qualcomm revealed the aim of QC3+ is to bring a fast-charging solution to more affordable smartphones. Compared with previous generations, it will be 35% faster and up to...

Leaked Oppo A92 render reveals an L-shaped camera on the back Posted: 27 Apr 2020 11:03 PM PDT The Oppo A92s leaked multiple times in the past few weeks, revealing quite an unusual design of the camera setup. Apparently the BBK subsidiary is working on another variant of the phone, again with four cameras, but these time they are lined up in an L-formation. This image also reveals the Oppo A92 will come with a one front-facing camera, tucked in a punch hole in the upper left corner of the LCD. We know what the panel is, because the fingerprint scanner is on the side - if it was missing, then we would've known the screen is OLED. According to the leakster, we are looking at a...

Google Pixel Buds are finally available Posted: 27 Apr 2020 09:15 PM PDT Google first announced the second-generation Pixel Buds at the October 15 #MadeByGoogle event last year along with the Google Pixel 4. Just over six months later, the new Google Pixel Buds are finally available for sale. The initial wave of reviews was also posted today with mostly positive critique of Google's first paid of TWS (True Wireless Stereo) earbuds. The first-generation Pixel Buds were not a fan-favorite. The two buds were tethered by a cord that also connected the right earbud to the left - cutting them apart would ruin this connection. With the new Pixel Buds, you can...
