Weekly poll: are you using your phone more during the quarantine or less? Posted: 12 Apr 2020 06:22 AM PDT With quarantine lockdowns around the world, most of our time is spent at home - we work from home and then try to find ways to entertain ourselves at the end of the day. So, we dusted off old laptops, tablets and other gadgets to try and build a home office/entertainment center. And (of course) we have our phones. Which got us wondering - are you using your phone more or less during the quarantine? While no one calls them "mobile phones" anymore, that's their defining characteristic. They move with you, following you outside and even abroad. But that's not happening right now and a...
LG announces Velvet - its new mid-range forerunner Posted: 12 Apr 2020 03:33 AM PDT LG chose Easter Sunday to produce one of its trademark announcements, where we learn of a new phone without actually getting to know most of its specs. Only this time we got literally no specs as the company confirmed that LG Velvet will the first smartphone in its portfolio to adopt its new design language. LG Velvet will mark the beginning of a new chapter in the Korean giant's mobile strategy where it will bet on design rather than specs alone to differentiate its products. It promises "tactile elegance" although we get little details as to what that entails. There are no images of the...
Weekly poll results: Nokia 8.3 5G's price may be a dealbreaker Posted: 12 Apr 2020 02:33 AM PDT The Nokia 8.3 5G will make a decent mid-ranger if HMD has the decency to price it as one - that's the conclusion from last week's poll. At 600, this phone has to go up against the likes of mainstream flagships like the Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Pro (560), newcomers like the Realme X50 Pro 5G (600), various gaming phones and affordable 5G mid-rangers like the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite 5G (350). How can the Nokia 8.3 5G fend them off? Unskinned Android One software and a reputation for timely OS updates (even on old phones) is a good start. However, many in the comments called that latter part into...
OnePlus 8, 8 Pro official cases pop-up in high-def pictures Posted: 11 Apr 2020 10:24 PM PDT This is definitely getting pretty ridiculous at this point, but we would be lying if we said that we didn't fully anticipate the continued onslaught of OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro leaks, prior to the April 14 unveiling event. Still, with pretty-much everything else mostly neatly cleared-up, there's no real reason not to look at the official case options in high resolution. Sandstone: Cyan Smoky Purple Black In case you were wondering (get it.), these don't actually come as a surprise, since we did get a glimpse of the selection a while back. That image, however,...
Flashback: the Nokia N95 was a high point for Symbian but also the beginning of the end Posted: 11 Apr 2020 07:24 PM PDT The Nokia N95 was peak Symbian - the phone came out in early 2007 and did everything. It was a feature rich phone that got even better when the Finns introduced the Nokia N95 8GB (aka N95-2) a few months later. Nokia N95 This was around the time that the original iPhone was introduced and while Apple stunned the world with the carefully thought out user interface built around a capacitive multi-touch screen, the smartphone capabilities were lacking at best. Remember that the Apple App Store wasn't introduced until the following year, Steve Jobs and company initially bet on...
Huawei MatePad specs, design and colors revealed through leaked image Posted: 11 Apr 2020 05:00 PM PDT Yesterday, we saw a press render of the Huawei MatePad T, which revealed its design. But, turns out that's not the only tablet Huawei will announce soon, since another slate, dubbed Huawei MatePad, has appeared in a leaked image. The picture is of a banner in a store in China, which reveals the design of the MatePad along with a few features. It has a 2K notchless display, which is rumored to measure 10.4" diagonally. Around the back, you have an LED flash, keeping company to the primary camera, rumored to have an 8MP sensor. And while not clearly visible in this image, the MatePad is...

Oppo details Ace 2 display tech in another official teaser video Posted: 11 Apr 2020 01:00 PM PDT The Oppo Ace 2 has been leaking for quite some time now. Long enough, in fact, for it to start forgetting parts of its own name, since the "Reno" bit is, officially out of the picture. Joking aside, Oppo appears to be revamping its lineup yet again and the Ace 2 will be playing an important ambassador role in said process, likely in just a couple of days, on April 13. In what is, we believe, now the third in a series of teaser videos, Oppo has been hyping-up the Ace 2. We aren't quite sure whether or not these clips are deliberately published or not, but it doesn't really matter...
A new 5G Realme bags multiple certification. It could be the X3 Posted: 11 Apr 2020 11:00 AM PDT Realme, just like so many others, felt the first wave of the still ongoing COVID-19 pandemic rather severely. Multiple launch plans were disrupted, most-notably those for the Narzo 10 series of devices in India. Over the last few days, however, we have been hearing more and more about alleged Realme X3 devices, like the X3 SuperZoom, which recently earned some certifications and passed through GeekBench. In what now seems like a potentially related development, another mysterious Realme phone was spotted, making certification rounds at the Cinese 3C and the MIIT...

Oppo A92s also on the way, sporting 5G and a 120Hz display or touch input Posted: 11 Apr 2020 08:24 AM PDT The Oppo Ace 2 is already on the way. In fact, it is only mere hours away from its April 13 release, as evidenced by a swell of leaks, as well as officials, teaser, videos. The latest of these details the freshly brand-tweaked, "Reno"-less Ace 2's display in quite a bit of detail. Including its 90Hz refresh rate. At the same time, we have also been keenly aware that Oppo's upcoming, restructured lineup will include A-series devices. As per leaks, at the very least, an Oppo A21 and two other mystery devices - CPH2067 and CPH2069. One of which, perhaps the Oppo A72. Well, now the plot thickens...
