Weekly poll: can the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Pro Max win your affections?

Posted: 22 Mar 2020 06:22 AM PDT

The Redmi Note series is back and better (and bigger) than ever. We've really only seen the Pro model so far and its Max variation - we'll go over the differences in brief before directing you to our virtual voting booth. The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max goes up to a 6.67" screen, slightly larger than the previous Pro generation. The aspect ratio is taller and the selfie camera is inside a small punch hole (rather than a wide teardrop notch), making more efficient use of the surface area on the front. That's a 32MP camera, by the way. The rear camera is largely unchanged with a 64MP sensor...

Weekly poll results: the Realme 6 and 6 Pro share the fan love equally

Posted: 22 Mar 2020 03:11 AM PDT

"Both are good" is the result from last week's poll when we presented the Realme 6 and 6 Pro for your approval. These two ended up within less than a percentage point of each other. The Realme 6 came up on top by the narrowest of margins. It looks like the company nailed the pricing and differentiation between the two models. People in the comments spoke highly of the MediaTek Helio G90T chipset and appreciated the inclusion of 30W fast charging on the non-Pro model. One of the extras on the Realme 6 Pro is the 2x telephoto camera (12MP sensor), the other is a Snapdragon 720G chipset...

Posted: 22 Mar 2020 12:45 AM PDT

A certain Oppo PDAM10 is now present on the Chinese certification authority's website, with plenty of specs to go around. Unfortunately, no market-friendly name or photos, as of yet. Flashback: Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 was a global best-seller on a budget

Posted: 21 Mar 2020 08:30 PM PDT

The original Redmi Note was popular, but the Redmi Note 3 launched the series into the stratosphere. The sleek aluminum exterior belied the $150 price tag of the phone - less than half what the Mi Note cost (both launched in 2015), but the phone's well thought out spec sheet made it a hit with buyers. In fact, the phone proved so popular that in September 2017 it became one of the Top 10 most popular smartphones globally, according to Insight Portal. It was rubbing shoulders with iPhones and Galaxys. But we're getting ahead of ourselves. The original was powered by a MediaTek Helio...

Honor Play 9A passes through TENAA

Posted: 21 Mar 2020 06:30 PM PDT

Thanks to a rather substantial leak, form just a few hours ago, we are already quite familiar with the Honor Play 9A. Today brings a TENAA certification listing for the phone, hinting strongly at an imminent release, while also re-affirming most of its specs. Honor Play 9A TENAA certification We only say "most" here, since TENAA does claim the MED-AL20 and MOA-AL20, both known model numbers of the Honor Play 9A, pack a 4,900 mAh battery. While our original source did list 5,000 mAh. Frankly, this really isn't a big deal and we might be looking at a fairly standard case of maximum...

Our video review of the Samsung Galaxy S20 camera is up

Posted: 21 Mar 2020 12:30 PM PDT

The Samsung Galaxy S20 shares a lot with its more expensive siblings while coming with a substantially lower price tag. One thing that sets it apart from the almost $500 more expensive S20 Ultra is camera setup so it's normal that the performance of its snappers is one of the most interesting parts. And seeing how cameras play such a huge role in a modern smartphone, there is plenty of analysis and comparisons between the pair to benefit from. Of course, we've already gone through most of these points in our in-depth written review of the S20. Still, if you'd prefer to see it all in video...
