Google testing new rear double-tap gesture in Android 11

With the first Android 11 developer preview out, more and more upcoming features are beginning to surface. The latest one is a new double-tap gesture that is performed on the back of the device and triggers the Google Assistant by default but can also be changed to open the camera app. The new feature is codenamed Columbus and is seemingly going to be exclusive to Google's Pixel line initially. The way it works is still a mystery but it appears to be picking up the knock on the back via the accelerometer or gyroscope sensors so it doesn't require special hardware to function. It...

The Huawei P40 series is expected to arrive next month and if a report coming out of China is to be believed, we'll see the P40 lineup come with Wi-Fi 6+, which is an in-house solution by Huawei. SA: 5G smartphones to make up 15% of the market in 2020

According to the latest prediction from Strategy Analystics, 5G smartphones will take up a much larger portion of global shipments this year, growing more than tenfold to reach 199 million shipments worldwide. This translates to an estimated 15% of all smartphone shipments, up from just 1% in 2019. The report also estimates that China, the United States, South Korea, Japan and Germany will account for 90% of all 5G smartphone sales. The Galaxy Z Flip seems to have exceeded Samsung's sales expectations, at least in some parts of the world including the US. CR: Chinese market accounted for nearly half of all 5G smartphones sales in 2019

According to the latest report from Counterpoint Research China accounted for 48% of all 5G smartphone shipments in 2019. Huawei (including Honor) captured 74% of 5G smartphone sales in China while Samsung was the global leader with a 40% market share. OmniVision unveiled its first 64MP image sensor, the OV64C. It's a 1/1.7" sensor, as large as the Sony IMX686 and Samsung ISOCELL GW1, two competing 64MP sensors. This size and resolution means that individual pixels measure 0.8µm.
