Benchmarking the Asus ROG Phone II Ultimate Edition with Snapdragon 855+ Posted: 04 Sep 2019 06:30 AM PDT The mobile chipset scene has always been rather unique. Unlike more traditional computing avenues like the PC ream, in the ARM world variety isn't really all that abundant on a year to year basis. That's how you end up with a sea of competing flagship handsets typically based around the exact same Qualcomm silicon. That has been the status quo for quite a few years now. So, in a sea of sameness, how can a "gaming" phone realistically differentiate while using the exact same internals as its often cheaper competitors? Well, turns out that not all Snapdragon 855+ chipsets are made... |
Asus Vivowatch SP is the newest smartwatch with ECG capabilities Posted: 04 Sep 2019 05:47 AM PDT Asus announced the global arrival of ROG Phone II at IFA 2019, but the phone's availability was not the only thing the company unveiled today. The Taiwan manufacturer also introduced a smartwatch called Vivowatch SP with ECG capabilities that tracks your blood pressure and stress levels. The watch comes with GPS and an altimeter for more precise exercise data, especially when you are in areas with poor coverage. The gadget also comes with Asus HealthAI that should guide you based on your stats and habits and the company says the platform was developed with leading health... |
Honor 20S goes official: a more affordable Kirin 810-powered version of the Honor 20 Posted: 04 Sep 2019 05:25 AM PDT The Honor 20S has been fully unveiled. It's essentially the same phone as the Honor 20, except with a different chipset and one camera fewer - and a noticeably lower price tag. The 20S is powered by a Kirin 810 chipset instead of the Kirin 980 (both are 7nm chips). The major change is the GPU - a Mali-G52 MP6, down from a Mali-G76 MP10. The downgrade in CPU performance is smaller, as you get two Cortex-A76 cores (instead of four) and six A55 cores. Anyway, the phone comes with 128GB of storage and 6GB or 8GB of RAM. There's no microSD card slot. Honor 20S The triple camera on... |
Asus ROG Phone II in for review, unboxing and key features Posted: 04 Sep 2019 05:14 AM PDT Asus has always had a rather particular PC-like approach to its smartphone business. While the effect from this have been far from universally positive throughout the years, there is simply no denying that the Republic of Gamers crossover in to the Android realm has been nothing short of spectacular. Benchmark and envelope-pushing are just some of the words that instantly spring to mind when talking about the ROG Phone II. A juggernaut of a device which just recently arrived at our office. With no shortage of fanfare, we might add, since like its predecessor, it shipped in a sizeable... |

Here's our best look yet at the Huawei Mate 30 Pro Posted: 04 Sep 2019 03:25 AM PDT CAD renders of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro arriving on September 19 have surfaced, giving us our best look yet at Huawei's upcoming flagship. These come to us through the usually reliable leakster OnLeaks who says the renders aren't 100% accurate, so the final product may have some differences. That said, the Mate 30 Pro will sport a waterfall display which is said to measure 6.6 inches diagonally and likely have a fingerprint reader embedded in it. The screen has curved edges and a wide notch up top housing three cameras. Around the back, we have a quad camera setup placed in a 2x2 grid... |
OnePlus 7T with Android 10 stops by Geekbench Posted: 04 Sep 2019 02:00 AM PDT OnePlus is expected to launch the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro anytime soon and the phone allegedly popped up on Geekbench. A device with model number HD1990, rumored to be the 7T, reached a single-core score of 3,983, which is with about 15% higher than the OnePlus 7 Pro results in our review. However, the multi-core score is 10,943, which is pretty much the same as the current SD855-powered flagship. A tipsterfrom China that has already proven his credibility over time, said the device is OnePlus 7T, but the Chinese variant with Hydrogen OS (that's without Google services).... |

The device arrived for sale this week and it already smashed the brand's record for the first sale - it pushed over 300,000 phones in its first day on the market. For comparison, the predecessor Redmi Note 7 saw "only" 100,000 phones sales on the first day, even if they sold in under 10 minutes. The Redmi Note 8 Pro is truly an intriguing phone - the camera is one thing, but it also has Helio G90T chipset, octa-core CPU, 18W fast-charging for the 4,500 mAh battery and pretty much everything else you might... |

Newest Open Beta for the OnePlus 6 and 6T prepares them for the Android 10 update Posted: 03 Sep 2019 09:00 PM PDT Although OnePlus has yet to officially announce it, a new Open Beta build is now going out to the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T. This arrives over-the-air for those who were already running the previous experimental build, as Open Beta 25 for the OnePlus 6 and Open Beta 17 for the OnePlus 6T. As you can see from the screenshot to the left, the sole purpose of this beta release, aside from bringing some unnamed optimizations for system performance, is to prepare the two phones for "major upcoming updates". Clearly that refers to Android 10. A few hours ago OnePlus outed the first beta... |
Samsung Galaxy Fold pre-orders to ship on September 11 Posted: 03 Sep 2019 07:00 PM PDT Samsung's Galaxy Fold is almost in stores, finally, after many months of delays. The Korean company has supposedly fixed the issues that surfaced during the initial batch of reviews, hopefully making the foldable phone sturdier. A new report originating at South Korean carrier KT says pre-orders of the Galaxy Fold in that country will start shipping on September 11. The company is expected to re-announce the Fold at IFA on September 6, and that is also when pre-orders may start. Samsung is apparently still pushing hard for a release in its home country this Friday, but that may be... |

Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 details leak, launch expected on September 24 Posted: 03 Sep 2019 03:00 PM PDT Xiaomi is planning to release its highly-anticipated flagship smartphone, the Mi Mix 4, on September 24 with a few surprises. This is coming from a fairly reputable source, so we have a good reason to believe the info. Initially, the phone was planned for a mid-September release but since the release schedule is already packed with a couple of competitors, including the Huawei Mate 30 Pro, Xiaomi decided to push back the date a little. According to people familiar with the matter, the handset will feature the world's first 108MP sensor manufactured by Samsung. The camera sensor was... |
Posted: 03 Sep 2019 12:37 PM PDT UPDATE: Unfortunately for owners of the Redmi K20 Pro, the rollout of stable Android 10 to this device turns out to have been just a false alarm, at least for the Indian model. We rushed to install the supposed stable release of Android 10 onto a unit we had lying around, and shock horror: it's a beta, and you need a beta authorized Xiaomi account to use it. So while things may be different with the Chinese version of the ROM (we don't have a Chinese K20 Pro to test on), for now if you're in India you're going to have to keep living with Android 9 Pie. Hopefully this beta testing period will... |
