Sony working on a rollable Xperia with 10x zoom camera, rumor claims Posted: 08 Jul 2019 09:00 AM PDT Rumor has it that Sony is working on a dream phone with a rollable display and 10x zoom camera. This is a so-called "nautilus design" and reportedly uses an LG Display panel. LG demoed a 65" rollable OLED TV at CES 2018, this could be a smaller version of the same tech. That was just a prototype, but the company will start selling it as the Signature Series R later this year. The rollable Sony Xperia is still in the prototype stage as well, currently powered by a Qualcomm SM7250 chipset (Snapdragon 710). The production model should upgrade to Snapdragon 855 with a X50 modem for 5G...

A store in China was spotted displaying a poster promoting Huawei's first foldable phone (which will also be among its first with 5G connectivity). The poster doesn't list any dates, but it hints that the launch is near. The president of Huawei's Product Division said in an interview that the Huawei Mate X will be available in China in late July or early August. | Here's the redesigned logic board of the Apple iPhone XI Posted: 08 Jul 2019 06:30 AM PDT It looks like Apple is moving away from the L-shaped logic board design for the iPhone XI and back to a standard, rectangular one. The proof is in a few images of the logic board of the iPhone XI from a few different sources. Logic boards, meant for the iPhone XI The iPhone X/XS had a stacked L-shaped logic board which pushed the battery to also be L-shaped. With the iPhone XI Apple will move to a rectangular logic board and a large rectangular battery to the side of it. We expect the iPhone XI and XI Max to have bigger batteries as a result of the new logic board... |
HTC doubled its revenue in June, posts a seven-month best result Posted: 08 Jul 2019 05:40 AM PDT HTC reported its financial results for June and it brings some rare good news for the struggling manufacturer. Yes, the company is still in decline on the YoY scale, but in June 2019 it recorded TWD1.4 billion in revenue ($44 million), which is the highest in the past seven months. Since June marks the end of the first half of 2019, HTC also announced its revenue for the six-month period - it is TWD5.75 billion ($1.84 billion), revealing that quarter of it was made in the last month alone. The increase on a monthly basis is quite impressive - 94.07% more than the TWD753 million,...
Google Pixel 4 XL renders show a classic top bezel, no notch or punch hole Posted: 08 Jul 2019 04:50 AM PDT Google posted an image of the back of the Pixel 4, but the front is still largely unknown. The reliable @OnLeaks has posted 3D renders of the Pixel 4 XL, which show that the oversized notch is gone. No notch, no punch hole, no pop-up, just a regular top bezel with a dual selfie camera, earpiece and sensors. Even if you're not sold on the design of the back, the front is bound to have fans. Google Pixel 4 XL renders By the way, @OnLeaks and PriceBaba published renders of the smaller Pixel 4 a month ago. It's the same design, except smaller. The XL model will have a 6.25"...
Samsung Galaxy Note10 wireless charger will offer up to 20W speeds Posted: 08 Jul 2019 04:05 AM PDT A while back we got some details on Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Note10 and Galaxy Watch 2 wireless chargers thanks to an FCC listing. Now noted tipster Roland Quandt claims that the rumored wireless charger will in fact output 20W. Compared to the current 10W-15W output of Samsung's wireless charger this will be able a notable increase. The new wireless coil will supposedly come with the EP-N5200 model number as detailed previously in the FCC listing, succeeding the EP-P5200 that came with the S10 line. An image from a Samsung booth also popped up, detailing that reverse wireless...
Posted: 08 Jul 2019 03:15 AM PDT About a week ago solid evidence surfaced confirming that Sony is preparing an Xperia 1 sequel for this year's IFA. And according to some new info, the Xperia 2 won't be coming alone - the successor to the Xperia 10 is tagging along too. The leaked specs sheet clearly states that this hardware is for the Japan version of the Xperia 20, but chances are the global variant won't be much different. Different RAM and storage combo is usually all there's to that. Anyway, we see the Snapdragon 710 replacing the Snapdragon 630, while the display remains at 6.0" with FHD+ resolution and a...
Apple mocks Google's privacy issues with a new billboard Posted: 08 Jul 2019 02:25 AM PDT When CES 2019 was taking place in Las Vegas, Apple posted a banner near the entrance of the conference saying "What happens on your iPhone, stays on your iPhone". It was a tongue-in-cheek response to the privacy issues companies like Google and Amazon were having, and it appears Cupertino is back at it. This time a billboard saying "We're in the business of staying out of yours" is seen right next to Sidewalk Labs' new HQ in Toronto. The company is a subsidiary of Alphabet, just like Google. Sidewalk Labs is a company aiming to rethink urban planning. It has published a...

Xiaomi periscope camera patent details The patent describes the combination of a main camera with at least one complementary periscope lens which will be placed perpendicular to the main one. | HTC U11+ is getting Android 9.0 Pie Posted: 08 Jul 2019 12:40 AM PDT HTC's 2017 flagship, the U11+, is finally receiving Android 9.0 Pie - perhaps a bit too late to the party given that Android Q is right around the corner but it's good to have it anyway. Reportedly, HTC is seeding the update in Taiwan at first and it's a hefty one - 1.45GB. The changelog isn't very descriptive but we are pretty sure visual changes and intrinsic Android 9.0 Pie features are at hand. There's no word on when the rest of the HTC U11+ owners around the globe will get it, but if no major issues are found in this extended soak test it should only be a few days. Source |
All major UK carriers rely on Huawei for 5G equipment Posted: 08 Jul 2019 12:00 AM PDT A report by The Observer from the weekend revealed that major UK carriers built their 5G networks with the help from Huawei. The Chinese company is involved in building the 5G stations in six of the seven cities in the UK where Vodafone has launched its next-generation connectivity. It is also building "hundreds of 5G sites for EE" and already has won contracts with Three and O2. The British government is yet to decide whether Huawei is a threat to national security. Telecoms decided to work with the Shenzhen-based manufacturer for "non-core" parts of their systems despite the whole...
Check out the first hands-on images of Redmi K20 Pro Avengers Edition Posted: 07 Jul 2019 11:15 PM PDT Xiaomi introduced the Redmi K20 Pro earlier this year as the first true flagship of its sub-brand. It was initially released in Red and Blue colors, while a limited Avengers Edition was just barely mentioned in the event. That particular version is yet to arrive for sale on any market, but some hands-on photos of the device appeared on Weibo, revealing the unique design Redmi had implemented. The Xiaomi subsidiary did a good job of giving new looks of the K20 Pro with the 3D design on the back. We expect a similar theme as part of the UI as well. Redmi K20 Pro Avengers...

Week 27 in review: It's raining phones as Galaxy Note10 gets a launch date Posted: 07 Jul 2019 09:00 PM PDT The second half of the year started with a bang, with plenty of manufacturers announcing new devices. Xiaomi introduced its Mi CC series, vivo had something for Generation Z in India and gamers on a tighter budget in China. The biggest announcement, however, was about the Samsung Galaxy Note10 - it will arrive on August 7. While some companies are doing launches and others are preparing for them, Sony and Apple are keeping it silent, so the rumors have to speak in their voice. The upcoming 2019 iPhones have leaked in CAD renders, while an alleged new Xperia flagship is on its way, likely...
Posted: 07 Jul 2019 05:00 PM PDT The OnePlus 7 was easily overshadowed by the 7 Pro, but we feel the vanilla OP7 better reflects the company's ethos. It has most of the 7 Pro's key features at a significantly lower price. And no-nonsense phones with attractive pricing are what brought the OnePlus where it is. Equipped with the flagship Snapdragon 855 SoC and an excellent 6.41-inch OLED screen with a minimalist notch, the handset sure makes a compelling offer at 550. The chipset is paired with either 6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage or 8GB of RAM with 256GB of storage. The camera setup on the back consists of...
Top 10 trending phones of week 27 Posted: 07 Jul 2019 01:00 PM PDT Week 27 brought in plenty of new phones, but none of them proved exciting enough to shake the top three. The first of the new names comes in fourth - the Xiaomi Mi CC9e, bumped its stablemate Redmi K20 Pro down to fifth. Samsung Galaxy A30 climbed up to sixth, while the Mi 9T lost two spots and is now sitting in seventh. Eight and ninth go to the Samsung Galaxy M40 and Galaxy A20 - the two phones were separated by four positions last week, but their opposing performances this week...
