| iOS 13 cuts out 3D touch in favor of new long press gestures Posted: 06 Jun 2019 04:40 AM PDT First introduced with the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, 3D touch brought pressure sensitive functionality to Apple's screens. Every single iPhone since then (minus the iPhone XR and iPhone SE) has included the functionality but with iOS 13 Apple will likely pull the plug on the feature. The loss won't be that noticeable as Apple will simply transition to Haptic Touch gestures which were introduced on the iPhone XR and offer identical functionality without the need for a pressure-sensitive screen. Skimming through Apple's iOS 13 features preview, under the System Experience section we see... |

Unlocking the phone with your face is cool, but Redmi warns that this feature isn't as secure as PIN/Password/Pattern and a similar-looking person can unlock your phone. And seeing how the phone only uses its front camera for it a photo of you will probably also work. That said, the firmware also brings in three customizable lock screen clock styles and Wi-Fi list sorting by signal strength to the K20 Pro. The update is 392MB in size and is currently rolled out in China... |

| HTC U11 Android 9 Pie update gets pulled because it was bricking devices Posted: 05 Jun 2019 10:00 PM PDT Late last month HTC finally started sending out the update to Android 9 Pie to the U11 smartphone it launched in 2017. It was a very late rollout, considering that Google is already testing Android Q, but still good news for owners of the HTC U11. Well, the good news didn't actually last very long, as the Taiwanese company has in the meantime been forced to pull the update, because apparently it was soft-bricking quite a few devices. After applying it, some U11 owners found that they couldn't get into their phones anymore, with neither PINs or pattern locks working as they should, simply... |

That's another feature coming straight from Waze but unfortunately, the speedometer rollout is staged and... |
| Huawei's EMUI 9 reaches 80M users, to hit Mate 9 and P10 series this month Posted: 05 Jun 2019 06:00 PM PDT No one can blame Huawei for not delivering software updates. | Android Q Beta 4 is available now, but installation is failing for some Posted: 05 Jun 2019 03:48 PM PDT Google has released Android Q Beta 4 today, following the third beta that went out in May during its I/O developer conference. While that was probably the first iteration of the new software good enough for regular people to try, Beta 4 comes with more polish and the final developer APIs, so they can start updating their apps to fully support Android Q when it gets finalized in August. While the new beta is available right now for all of Google's Pixels (including the new 3a and 3a XL), we need to caution you about grabbing it at this point, as there are reports of failed installs and... |

| Samsung cutting its phone production in China Posted: 05 Jun 2019 01:45 PM PDT Samsung is reducing the output of its only smartphone factory in Huizhou, China, less than 12 months after closing its other plant in Tianjin. According to Reuters, the reason is that market share has shrunk from over 20% to less than 1% in the span of five years while being squeezed by domestic players. Although sales of Samsung smartphones have been less than impressive in the past few years, Q1 2019 brought a 40% sequential increase in number of units sold. Still, either that not enough or Samsung believes it can still make enough units after the cuts. The financial magazine... |

The firm claims that he Zenfone branding will likely "cause confusion in the minds of the public". Moreover, Telecare claims that Asus used the Zen name to "ride upon its goodwill" when it entered the Indian market back in 2014. On the other hand, Asus says that the word zen is common and has... |
| Motorola Moto E6 Plus reveals Helio P22 chipset on Geekbench Posted: 05 Jun 2019 10:00 AM PDT The unannounced Motorola Moto E6 Plus has just surfaced on Geekbench, running a Helio P22 chipset, 2GB of RAM and Android 9 Pie. Back in April we first saw detailed specs of the Motorola E6 and it was running a Snapdragon 430. The MediaTek Helio P22 inside the Moto E6 Plus uses higher-clocked 2.0GHz Cortex-A53 cores and a smaller manufacturing process (14nm compared to 28nm). Last year's Moto E5 Plus had 2GB and 3GB of RAM so we expect the Moto E6 Plus to at least offer the same amount, if not even 4GB. The Moto E5 family of phones - E5, E5 Plus and E5 Play - launched in April of... |
| Samsung Galaxy Note10 price tipped Posted: 05 Jun 2019 09:00 AM PDT After all the leaks about the Galaxy Note10 lately, it doesn't come as a surprise that a report about the pricing has also emerged. A source familiar with the matter claims that the phone's price will be around $1,100-1,200. The report doesn't clarify, however, whether this price tag is for the top-end 5G model or the standard one. Our best guess is that's the standard model so it can make room for the rumored Galaxy Note10e for better segmentation. The latter is supposed to be smaller and miss on a couple of features to keep the cost low. Interestingly, the source also talks about... |
