Apple WWDC 2019: what to expect Posted: 03 Jun 2019 07:15 AM PDT Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference kicks off today in San Jose, California, and it will show the latest advancements by the company's software developers plus perhaps some hardware. Apple will show iOS 13, macOS 10.15, tvOS 13 and watchOS 6, which will shape how iDevices work and look in the future and there's an outside chance we see a few new devices too. So let's take a look at what's likely to come and what isn't. iOS 13 iOS will take center stage at WWDC 2019. The two biggest improvements to Apple's mobile OS will be Dark Mode, which we've already seen in...
Huawei Mate 30 lite (Maimang 8) teasers reveal specs, Wednesday announcement Posted: 03 Jun 2019 06:30 AM PDT While the Huawei Mate flagships are months away, the Huawei Mate 30 lite may arrive in just a couple of days. The phone is called "Maimang 8" in China, but remember that the Maimang 7 launched as the Mate 20 lite globally. Three teaser images show June 5 as the reveal date along with key specs. The Mate 30 lite will have a 6.21" notched screen and a fingerprint reader on the back, near the triple camera. That camera will have a 24MP, 16MP and 2MP sensors (the likely lens setup is wide, ultra-wide and depth sensor, respectively).

OMNY (One Metro New York) allows users to enter New York City's metro and bus system with a contactless MetroCard and it will now accept a Samsung Pay-enabled Samsung smartphone or smartwatch - just tap your Samsung Pay device to the turnstile or bus terminal. OMNY also supports Apple Pay and Android Pay. Keep in mind that OMNY doesn't yet cover NY's entire transit system and is available on the Staten Island bus network and the 4,5 and 6 train stations between Atlantic Avenue-Barclays... |
Xiaomi also teases under-display camera Posted: 03 Jun 2019 04:50 AM PDT Earlier today Oppo showcased an under-display camera that is invisible when the screen is working, and apparently Xiaomi is also working on the technology. The Mi company posted on its social media channels that it found a solution to make the front camera "disappear" that will likely end the trend of notches and elevating cameras. Here you go...introducing you to Under-Display Camera technology!#Xiaomi #InnovationForEveryone pic.twitter.com/d2HL6FHkh1 Xiaomi #5GIsHere (@Xiaomi) June 3, 2019 According to Xiaomi, the company patented a way to...
The new iPhone XI lineup to have 128GB base storage Posted: 03 Jun 2019 04:00 AM PDT Many flagships are moving to 128GB base storage and the iPhone XI may follow suite. Current models start at 64GB, the two XS phones don't even have a 128GB option - instead they jump straight to 256GB. Note that this reportedly covers both the premium iPhone XI and the more affordable XR model. Doubling the base storage will reduce the effort needed to fit your data into the base model, which is especially tricky as new iOS updates arrives and needs some extra room to install. The new iPhones - which we're calling "XI" for now - will have a square camera humps and this is what cases for...
Samsung phone pops up on Geekbench, could be a Galaxy S Active Posted: 03 Jun 2019 03:10 AM PDT Samsung has a long history of making rugged smartphones and even though we haven't seen one since the Xcover 4 back in 2017, we might be getting a successor pretty soon. A new listing on Geekbench revealed an upcoming Samsung SM-G889F with last year's Exynos 9810 processor from the S9 family and 4GB RAM. It pushed out 3,130 points in the single-core test and 9,050 in the multi-core department and runs on Android 9 Pie. The phone in question is believed to be a ruggedized version of the regular Galaxy S9 and was even shown on video earlier this year by Roland Quandt. According to...
Top 10 trending phones of week 22 Posted: 03 Jun 2019 02:30 AM PDT Week 22 saw more big shifts in our trending chart, as the newly unveiled Redmi K20 and K20 Pro shook things around. The K20 Pro shot straight for the top, leaving the Samsung Galaxy A50 to settle for the silver medal. The upcoming Galaxy M40 gained enough attention to make the podium even though it's only partially official yet. Samsung Galaxy A70 climbed to fourth, ahead of the regular Redmi K20 and the Redmi Note 7. The OnePlus 7 Pro follows in seventh - this is the only phone not coming from either Samsung and Xiaomi to make the top 10 this weel. The list is completed by the...

Soon after Oppo's official Twitter account gave us another look at this new approach to selfie camera placement and it looks every bit as intriguing. Some rumors claimed it will be called Poco F2 in India, but now we got a confirmation that this won't be the case. | Honor 20 Pro to have 12 GB RAM in China, TENAA reveals Posted: 02 Jun 2019 10:40 PM PDT The Honor 20 series were introduced to the global audience on May 21, but China is yet to see the devices. They were just listed with model numbers YAL-AL00 and YAL-AL10 on TENAA, and while most of the specs are the same, both the Honor 20 and the Honor 20 Pro were certified with 12 GB RAM, a feature that is likely to remain available only to the domestic scene. The Honor 20 is also coming with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage, opposed to its only variant with 6/128 GB memory combo around the world. All other specs of the vanilla flagship and its Pro sibling are the same - size, ... |
Posted: 02 Jun 2019 08:00 PM PDT The Sony Xperia 1 is now available in Europe and will launch in the US in a couple of weeks. This is hands-down the most capable phone Sony ever made, but the competition hasn't been sleeping since its introduction at the MWC months ago. Still, no one has managed to deliver another 4K OLED display - actually, there are no other 4K displays, save for Sony's older "Premium" phones. And despite its singular name, the Xperia 1 is a heir to the Premium family. This 6.5" screen is one of the few to feature a 21:9 aspect ratio, which Sony argues is better for both video watching (e.g. Netflix...
Week 22 in review: Redmi K20 Pro announced, spicy Samsung Galaxy Note10 leaks Posted: 02 Jun 2019 04:00 PM PDT This week kicked off with one of the most exciting releases so far this year - the Redmi K20 Pro. It's the newly established sub-brand's first flagship phone. It immediately sparked a lot of interest among Android fans due to its low price and high-end specs and features. Soon after its official debut in China, rumors started flying in that the Redmi K20 Pro will make it outside of the country under different names - likely branded as Mi 9T Pro and Poco F2 Pro in overseas markets. The first Google Pixel 4 images surfaced even if there are several more months until the phone is...
Counterclockwise: the quest for the all screen front in numbers Posted: 02 Jun 2019 12:00 PM PDT A couple of years ago we looked at the ever shrinking bezels and the rising screen to body ratio. While 2016 wasn't that long ago, things have changed considerably since. The last article stopped at 2016's Xiaomi Mi Mix. Fitting that 6.4" screen in a body that small was quite a feat, but it required some contortion - putting the selfie camera on the bottom (a trend started by Sharp's Aquos and the Nokia N9 phones). This didn't catch on, however, and instead we got the likes of the Essential PH-1 - the champ for 2017 and one of the first notched phones. The Sharp Aquos S2 was released...
Weekly poll: is the Redmi K20 Pro a true flagship killer? And what about the K20? Posted: 02 Jun 2019 08:00 AM PDT Every other year a flagship killer is born, destined to slay high prices - and in 2019 its name is Redmi K20. There's two of them actually, the Pro model in particular might offer the best value for money we've seen recently. Better than even the Pocophone F1. We're talking about the Redmi K20 Pro, of course, and we have to start with clearing up the confusion surrounding the naming. This phone will be available as the Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro in some regions and Pocophone F2 Pro in others. Similarly, the vanilla K20 will be rebadged as Xiaomi Mi 9 or Pocophone F2. Keep in mind that for the...
